Ғылым және технология

Awesome video, thanks for sharing. Wanting to use this process for designing speakers and machine bases.

I'm thinking it would make for a very stable speaker box. I've thought about it, however, my mold making skills are not yet that good.

No worries. Thanks for tuning in. Hopefully I will have more epoxy granite projects soon.

dry your filler in an oven to drive off moisture, you should be able to microwave this if you want. Soak your filler in the resin over night, try to seal the resin to prevent air going in. Don't use graphite, the platelets will cause cohesion failure, use carbon black. liquid lecithin is a good mold release agent if you want to be able to paint the surface after the fact.

Hi Jean, yeah everything except the silica fume was baked before. Granted it's been months after the fact. I will look into the liquid lecithin!

Well, the larger stones are from the pet shop, they are aquarium decoration. The silica sand < 1mm from construction store (quartz sand) and the silica fume Sika Fume from the construction store.

you should have pour your mixes into plastic cups...and used a good mold release wax agent with real pva mold release then get a can of smooth on "Universal Mold Release" over the pva also you should coat your mold with 1-2 coats of thin clear epoxy mix let it set up or become very tacky... also your mixes where to dry with out a vibration table... also use a heat gun to pop surface bubbles in the top clear layer... your second or third coat should have pigments mixed with resin only ie if you want a all black finish, again use heat gun, once the thin coat of the mold is achieved and is curried but still tacky do to your 12% mix with your aggregates ... if you mold is glass smooth and you prep the mold properly your casting will be the same. wood mold need to sealed and varnished or epoxied so they extermly glass smooth.

Thanks henri. Yeah, for the round samples at the end I used plastic cups. I have to pick up some PVA mould release for the end castings for sure and I'm thinking that pre-coating the mould will yield a better finish!

I want to make a cnc, but I don't have the formula. Let's say I found a formula, I'm afraid that the epoxy will break on the granite. And almost the same cost as steel casting.

At first I was thinking that you were trying to match the ingredients to make a GRANITE matching filler. Then perhaps a grinding stone. Now you have my curiosity ? J K

Nope, this is the beginning of what I hope will become both a lathe and a mill in the near future.
