Episode No.129 - Serpentine and Drive Belts
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Start the complete course at www.howacarwor...
In this episode I cover what a drive belt is. We talk about serpentine belts, the evolution of the drive system - from ropes to flat belts, to vee-belt and finally to today's multitooth belts. I talk a little about drive belt layouts, and how belts are constructed and wear.
We also talk about the PK number on belts.
00:00 - History of drive belts
04:53 - Belt layouts
07:28 - Belt in detail
09:00 - Belt wear

I dont know where you are now or for what reason you stopped creating and uploading content. But if by any chance you see this comment, I sincerely hope you get back to making these videos again. They are amongst the best produced and most informative in the automotive niche on youtube and Im sure I speak for many when I say I hope to see more content on this channel again. And thank you for all you have uploaded already.

For real. Normally online courses are a useless waste of money, but there is so much content on his course that touches all subjects in depth. And most importantly it's not a stupid subscription service. Thanks how a car works guy
I really appreciate that a complete history lesson was shared in this video, including the origin of the names and how each type of belt is manufactured. I never knew modern belts don’t crack and should be inspected for depth like tires. Thank you so much for putting all the extra details into this video.

I happened across Alex Muir's How A Car Works video course a couple days ago now and bought it almost immediately. It's a shame due to personal circumstances he wasn't able to complete the course (like many, I pray that he will find the motivation and time to do so one day as I have never come across anything so comprehensive and mesmerising - I've been binge watching his videos ever since I bought his course) but there is enough content there to keep you satiated for sure! There is so much potential (eg. to follow on and do "how an electric car works" by taking a Tesla or Hyundai Ioniq apart) that I really hope Alex finds some backers so that he can concentrate 100% on this project without having to worry about covering his everyday living expenses and/or business overheads and staff costs. He is a brilliant and very intelligent man with a natural flair for presenting. I wish him luck with any and every venture he embarks on. Alex, if you ever read this comment, may I ask if you've considered Crowdfunding? I am sure you'd raise a heck of a lot of money that way if you needed funds in order to finish the project?

I also bought it recently and noticed there's not many news of the course nor alex, or none at all. What did you mean by "due to personal circumstances he wasn't able to complete the course"? what are those personal circumstances and how are you sure it's not gonna be completed. Before buying the site said that the course was expected to be completed by august 2024.
Just bought your course, tho idk for whatever reason you stopped making the videos i still appreciate the knowledge and time you put into them. BEFORE YOU BUY: This project is pretty much abandoned. He just stopped making videos, no responses to anyone and he doesn‘t even acknowledge that it‘s abandoned. Yet they still advertise on their website that the course will be completed. He left everyone who paid for this in the dark, which is very shady. It‘s also very outdated, the whole thing seems to be made off an old book on how cars work. I have reported this to consumer services.

@@Sketchr_ it basically starts from Alex tearing down (disassembling) the Miata. Then, he explains the parts and systems in great detail. Unfortunately, I really rooted for the pdf to be their own diagrams regarding the Miata, but it is just photocopies of a book that explain how cars work, and its very wordy and seems a bit old if you might ask. Any chance to get update on the course? The content is really good and explained well on the engine part but I feel that it's missing few parts to be considered complete. Like transmission, differential, suspension and fuel pump for example. Maybe even some tips for tuning. I have found a somewhat of a rare car that I would like to fix up but I'm having issues with the things that are missing from this course. For the price it's a bargain and I would be okay paying for part 2.

Despite the good quality, I must say that the complete course was originally scheduled for 2 years ago at least! And still there are no videos on such important parts as spark plugs, ignition coils, battery, steering rack, gearbox, differencial, the whole clutch system, fuel pump, fuel rail, fuel injectors, crankshaft sensor, idle air control valve, EGR, air conditioning system, catalytic converter, windshield wipers. I don't even know cars but look how many I could name. The whole concept of this paid course in early access was fishy from the beginning, and now I can say it for sure: don't pay for this course!
