@@dylanrodrigues You think peace would have happened in Afghanistan if they didn't occupy? The CIA was already funding the Mujahideen to topple the government and cause a civil war, and the government at the time was run by a maniac who was making the situation worse. The only upside to Soviets not occupying the country would be a potentially faster war which would have ended with the Mujahideen in power anyways.

An important element that wasn't mentioned is that the taliban called china their greatest ally. If they get involved, they are experts at lifting poor rural populations out of poverty and are already working with the uighurs across the border. It really will be interesting what afghanistan looks like in 20 years

I just finished the blowback season 2 about Cuba and the interesting thing is that the Afghani case really... demonstrates how the US went about Cuba (to achieve it's immoral objectives) all wrong... You think about what the US did for years, basically Jihadi style terror attacks to cause suffering and harm. Well... if you keep attacking a people are they ever going to surrender to your ideology? I can't believe Kennedy didn't look at his staff and call them freaking morons from the start, attacking civilians to cause enough suffering for the government to collapse No, the people will back the government harder to fight the enemy that you have made yourself into... The Marxist revolution in Afghanistan shows the path they should have taken. The Soviet Union trained the 1980s Afghan army, the US trained it's civil service. The Soviet Union didn't attack them and terrorize them, they just offered training and technical assistance and slowly won over the minds of enough men with guns near the King of the country that the revolt was inevitable even if they hadn't intended for there to be one in the first place. Now the Afghani Marxists were doomed because they didn't care one bit about the thoughts or opinions of the tribes / clans ect that make up Afghanistan and it's a rural country which means... The power lies there not in the city. HOWEVER the success of the revolt of seizing the government shows where the US could have gone in Cuba... Instead of terror attacks they should have offered "help" and each year slowly winning over the right people in the government by training them in the US until... it flips. I think the Cuba situation, the bay of pigs ect really demonstrates the utter absolute incompetence of the CIA and the US leadership over the past 80 years. TBH I think the CIA campaign of terror basically cemented the stability of the government in Cuba... Any time someone tries to pull the "CIA was this huge threat to the Soviet Union and undermined it at every angle" line I snort. It's like trying to convince me that Joseph Stalin was haunted and defeated by Ronald Mcdonnald and his gang of Hamburglers...

There's someone I know that is always trying to correct people's pronunciation of things because it's not AmErICaN eNgLiSh sounding enough, and I keep telling them once the idea that someone is trying to communicate has been semantically processed and you know what the person meant... why be so anal about the pronunciation?? It's kinda pretentious.
