I watched this episode when it was released and, as a pilot, noticed a CGI mistake right away. At the 4 minute, 52 second mark a P51 gets it's left wing shot off but spins to the right. Wings don't work that way. Earlier in the video (4:39) another had its left wing shot off and spun to the left as it should have.

I always believed this to be true until that video of the 2 skydiving planes was national news. Wing sheared off in the collision and the plane spun with the remaining wing going down not up. A survivor confirmed this video was factual in that stunning mid-air event. Google it. I'm still baffled by it.

Never thought of New POW's arriving at camp, the only source of outside news the Prisoners get. the guy making the plans on Bennies was not necessary in this clip. They did a better job with flight characteristics than RedTails did (it was like they were riding motorcycles) but that Dive, still too tight. 4:02 The CGI guys need to spend some time on boats to get the feel for no breaks only inertia.

It is unlikely the P-40 fighters were used in night attacks like that. Let alone flying in close formation at night. Such a mission would more likely been done with medium bombers that had navigators and possibly radars. Even in daylight they would be more dispersed for strafing. Also bombing in line formation at such low level the following aircraft could be damaged by explosions. And they had no way to judge height for low attacks at night. Was it done at night in the movie so it was cheaper or the explosions looked good. They should have had another aircraft to do navigation. On most night missions aircraft flew relatively alone. Formations would be well dispersed. Some aircraft were specifically to mark targets at night for other bombers. They would have the best crews and equipment and drop flares and incendiaries from medium/high altitude. The RAF often used twin engine Mosquito or Beaufighters for night intruders and many other roles. . And used them for night intruder missions as in the show. The USAAF had Mosquitoes and Beaufighters for night operations and used other US medium bombers. There were also two or three seat light bombers that had navigators. The Mosquito was the best bomber of WW2 due to its speed and were often given the most dangerous missions. It was much faster than the Beaufighter.

Wikipedia: The 56th Fighter Group is credited by the Air Force Historical Research Agency with the destruction of 665.5 aircraft in air-to-air combat, the 56th Fighter Group had more air-to-air kills than any other fighter group in the Eighth Air Force, was the top-scoring Republic P-47 Thunderbolt group during World War II, and recorded the second-highest number of air-to-air kills of any USAAF fighter group. The 56th also claimed 311 fighters destroyed on the ground. The Tuskegee airmen were credited with 112 enemy aircraft destroyed in the air, and 150 on the ground. Also 148 enemy aircraft damaged.

I honor the Tuskegee airmen for their service, but they were far from being the best U.S. fighter group. At best, they were average, which is not a bad thing, but it's a disservice to fighter groups with much better records, longer combat time and many more deaths. They were a small part (only 355 men at most) of the 15th Air Force, which had 21 bomber groups and seven fighter groups, but you hear almost nothing about the 15th except the Tuskegee airmen.

There were 1,279 U.S. fighter aces in WWII, including those who flew with the Flying Tigers and the Eagle Squadron. There was only one ace from the Tuskegee Airmen, and he had the bare minimum five kills required to be an ace. The 15th air force, which included the Tuskegee airmen, produced 74 aces during the war.

There’s a myth that Tuskegee Airmen were first to shoot down a German jet fighter. They weren’t even the first in the 15th AF to shoot one down. American pilots shot down 60 Me 262 jets before March 24, 1945, the day on which the Tuskegee airmen claimed their first victory over German jets.
