Episode 64: Hanging With Allen Vizzutti

My guest for this episode is Allen Vizzutti.
Allen’s skills on the trumpet are off the charts, and his sense of humor is a bit off the wall. Allen is the definition of a world-class artist. His technical mastery of the trumpet continues to amaze audiences across the globe. He is also a prolific composer, an avid educator, the author of the Allen Vizzutti Trumpet Method books, and the occasional creator of outrageous videos.
Check out what Allen has to say about life in the Pacific Northwest, the decision to leave the Los Angeles music scene, goals and motivations, the benefits of versatility, reverse engineering his skills to become a better teacher, why you don't need to practice 5 hours a day, the importance of an organized practice routine, the need to just back off, the value of extremes and making mistakes, the impact of Chick Corea, the role of honesty and kindness in teaching, and so much more!
So pour yourself a big glass, pull up a chair, and let the hang begin!

Thx Jose. I have always been in awe of AV ever since my college years. It’s eye opening for me to realize that music/trumpet gods are just real people that have the same real life concerns as us mere mortals. Thx for your series

Allen is a very nice guy and an amazing musician. I had the opportunity to meet him a few years back when he performed at Henderson State University and my son was responsible for taking him to and from the airport and around campus. Wonderful person.

He is certainly a down to Earth guy. If you met him in a coffee shop you would never know that he was one of the world's greatest trumpet players.

Allen was in Norway in 1998. Things he said in this conversation was also what he pointed ot, 23 years ago (3 aspect of practice: warmup, technique and music) ojtrumpet.net/vizzutti/warmup.html
