Episode 25 - Doug Scott | The Kapadia Interviews

Alpine Club member and former Editor of the Himalayan Journal Harish Kapadia has, over a period of nearly two decades, conducted interviews with many notable figures from the world of mountaineering.
In 2023, Kapadia formally made a gift of these recordings to the Alpine Club Library. From December 2023 onwards, we will be releasing these interviews once a week via our KZread channel so that they can be enjoyed by mountain-enthusiasts throughout the world. Episodes will release on Thursday mornings UK time.
In our 25th episode, Harish talks with legendary British mountaineer and former Alpine Club president Doug Scott. The pair discuss many of Scott's expeditions to the greater ranges, starting all the way back in the 1960s with a trip to the Hindu Kush and including his unplanned bivouac on Everest which Scott insists was "No problem for a man from Nottingham". They also cover Scott's mountaineering philosophy, his work with Community Action Nepal and the enormous mental benefits he felt he gained from mountaineering.
The Alpine Club Library holds a wealth of mountaineering material to which we are very pleased to add these recordings. You can learn more about the Alpine Club Library, and the Alpine Club more generally, via our website: www.alpineclub.org/
