EPISODE #20: I’m Losing Interest In Modern Folders

What’s goin on everybody! Just wanted to make a video and discuss my feelings on why I’m losing interest in modern folding and find more pleasure in traditionals and fixed blades! We can all have our own opinions and I respect that! I hope y’all enjoy the video!

glad to see you have awakened too realize a knife is meant to be a knife and not just like figurines to be collected and hoarded greedily. Our grandfathers would slap us silly for being so overly obsessed about knives. they used their knives and weren't uptight about it. God Bless You

Great video ... I love old knives and have 3 knives from the 1930's that are part of my edc rotation. Like you said ... they have character, and they are conversation starters😂

Actually, I've been secretly enjoying watching your videos lately. I also agree with the title of this video. Lately I've been getting more interested in slipjoints and old-school folders.

That’s where most of my interest has gone! I have more slipjoints than anything else in my collection

Totally agree with you on spyderco. They’ve had my heart the past year with their models. The steel variety and aftermarket parts are where they shine. Plus the compression is simple and easy to use. As well as tough.

Amen brother Ive become bored of the main stream knife industry. A lot of over priced china made knives that do not hold there value, you pay 400 bucks for one and resale is 250. GEC and even case are a far better investment. I have spydercos benchmades and microtechs. My last 10 purchases have been Case Knives. Next will be a GEC. Keep up the good work!

Saying you're interested in the personality of knives & then bringing up spyderco is crazy. 👀 I get that you meant reasonably-priced, properly heat-treated steels. Not the knives themselves. The worst cut I've ever given myself was with a slipjoint. Slid my finger right down the blade being a total moron trying to open it from half-stop using the rocasso. 😂 Ran my ass to the bathroom just to buy myself some time to think about how to stop the bleeding without drenching the house. So I've always understood that slipjoints demand far more respect than normal knives, dangerous as they can normally be to stupid people. 😅 Didn't have any proper men in my life. Personally, i carry a folder & fixed blade version of both a straight edge & belly blade, along with a utility blade for tape. Use them all in their ideal circumstances. Belly for surface cutting; straight edge for air cutting. Fixed blades for messy tasks (as they are easy & quick to clean when done right, & i like to keep my food packaging cuts separate from my food cuts because of raw meat & frozen foods. I like to wash my knives after I eat; not to mention packaging is cut better with straight edges) & folders for non messy stuff, like hardware use. I use them all regularly, aside from the belly folder (which has shown me that I can get away with carrying this knife role as a slipjoint most of the time, since I don't need it to be efficient on time, & get away with carrying slip joints at home, in a casual setting since they are partly designed to slow down & appreciate them as knives) which I still use semi-regularly. That's how I ended up turning to slip joints again, properly this time. And thus, how i ended up here. Nice to meet ya. You can thank EricasEDC for KZread sending me here. Oh, shit! I almost forgot... I also carry a super tinkerer in one of my hip pouches. (Yes, everyday i carry hip pouches (among many other things) & yes, the weight takes some getting used to, but we were made for weight, right?)

Yea sometimes my brain goes blank when I turn on the camera, but with the Spydercos, you kit the nail on the head. I was trying to make the point that the do the heat treating and blade execution right which is why they still have my interest. I just like how they perform and those 4 particular configurations are the only modern folders that have my eye right now! I had a bad cut from a slipjoint trying to drill a new hole in my belt from when I lost weight. I knew better, I just wasn’t thinking. But they definitely require more respect than locking blades for sure! I never really go into fixed blades until this year and so far I’m enjoying it! Thanks for the thought provoking comment brother!

Also Erica and I did have a conversation about how we wish Spyderco would come out with more new USA made and Seki made designs. The Bodacious isn’t cutting it 😂 no pun intended

Wears a ton of jewelry, ear rings (both ears), requisite too many tattoos if you are current hip slick and cool. But preach that my modern knives are bad. Why are you driving that overly complex car, buy a '62 Fairlane.
