Rahul Dravid is one of those Indian cricketers, who you can never hate. In his playing days he was always focused on his own game, he never ever said or did anything to insult or infuriate the opponent. Being a Pakistani I was so pissed at Shoaib Akhtar when he had a banter with Dravid, I remember I was feeling so uncomfortable sitting in front of the screen that why such a nice guy like Dravid should be treated like that. And then, to my utter surprise, Dravid reacted and believe you me, this was probably the first and the only time I felt good when another team's player was having a go at my own's. That's the class of this man. He is a true gentleman, a legend of the game and above all, his down to earth personality, constant smile and friendly demeanor makes him a perfect role model for the youngsters to follow. ♥ from Lahore

Sir, that shows how greater fan you are for the sport called cricket. I'm from India, but I could never hesitate in appreciating Pakistan's bowlers (Wasim Akram is my all time favorite). In a parallel universe, if we still would have been a one country, our cricket team would have been unstoppable. No other team could have matched us in talent. Nevertheless, I sincerely wish if cricket would have left untouched by politics.

I once came across Rahul Dravid at Trivandrum airport while he was travelling with some of the India A members who were playing England A in a few matches. I think Rahane was the captain. Let me tell you that every story you've ever heard about him as a person is true. He refused to skip the queue while we were boarding the plane. He refused to sit the hospitality suite while we were waiting for the boarding call. He also took pictures with quite a few of the people who were in the line. And left the plane last after shaking hands with the cabin crew and the ground staff outside the plane when we landed in Bangalore. A gem of a guy... A gem of a player and someone I think would make a fantastic coach for the Indian team in the future. It's only in retrospect that someone's impact as a sportsmen can really be evaluated and I don't see anyone in the present Indian team matching his tally of runs.

@Alan - Yours is one of the rare comments i find from people when they talk about Indian batting. You have nailed it. Infact VVS is my all time favorite Test Batsman followed by Rahul Dravid. less people talk about VVS. But the pure gold innings of VVS (281) & Rahul Dravid (150) in the famous Kolkta test in 2001 changed Indian cricket forever. We beat the mighty Australians from being follow-on which is an epic match in the history.

THE WOLF WHO LIVED FOR THE PACKS.. When everything went against the packs, There was he standing tall, Fighting the battle, Resisting every attempt to make him fall.. Toiling hard for hours, In the game of test cricket, There was he earning a respect, Sweating it out and fighting for the packs... When the packs lost a keeper, He was one to raise the hand, When the pack needed a opener, He was one to stand and deliver... Looking just a simple man, But a grittiiness and determination of a saint, Spirit of a warrior, Love for the nation.. Remember the only t20 he played, He played for the packs, Never refused to leave them in distress, He would have walked on broken glass for the packs.... Gentleman on the field and off the field, Unfazed by the fandom he earned. Walked among us like common man, A perfect father, husband and role model. Wanna learn how to make your life large, Live it like this wolf.... Never went for popularity, Just for character and reputation.. In this monetary world, Left the money that through IPL he earned, Gave credit to the players and staff, Then asked BCCI to give equal share as staffs and players equally deserve.. Now still after retirement, Working for the nation, Nurturing young talent, And building a future so strong.... Person who refused doctorate degree, Only coz he didn't earn it, Saw anyone so selfless, So successful yet so unfazed by the greed and fascination of worldly affairs. This wolf Is RAHUL DRAVID SIR. THE WALL.. THE SAVIOUR.. THE DEPENDABLE... THE PERFECT TEAM PLAYER.. THE GENTLEMAN OF THE GAME...

I am a Pakistani and for me Rahul ranks in my top 5 batsman of all time from what I have seen. He bats in the purest form of the art. Concrete fundamentals. He is always in command when he is at bat, never the other way round, doesn't matter who is bowling to him. He is unphased by what is happening around him. The spectators disappear, the noise, gone. His mind is clear of all thoughts and distractions as he enters the ground. At crease, all he sees is the bowler, the ball and what he needs to do to both: wear them both out. He is the only batsman I know where his wicket is earned by the opposition. He never gives it away. The opposition needs to find a crack, which he never shows. His off days are as good as when he is in form. One can never tell which is which. A masterclass batsman. The absolute zen in batting.

I dont understand why do you people( Dravid fans) bring tendulkar in every conversation. Dude we can be fans of both. But you people are so negative especially Rahul David fans. You have to understand that in no way has tendulkar affected Dravid and his position in team. And the farewell was the decision of BCCI and not Sachins. So stop being negative and enjoy both legends.
