Episode 103. Stealth Hunters

Ғылым және технология

In this episode of Combat Approved, the viewers will see the newest one-of-a-kind weapon. The combat portable air defense radar system Nebo M. As our film crew has found out, the radar is capable of detecting and targeting the Air Defense strikes against not only the enemy airplanes and helicopters, but even against the ballistic missiles and stealth-aircraft. To find out the limit of the combat radar’s abilities, the journalists of Combat Approved will set up an unprecedentedly difficult test. They’ll try to locate and target a tiny drone with the help of the radar. No other foreign radar of the same type is able to do that. In addition, Combat Approved will visit the classified production site of these machines and will find out why a radio electronic circuit board weighing just 10 grams costs like 18 ounces of gold. Moreover, for the first time on TV, we’ll show you the unique Niobium-SV radar. It’s a portable and small complex which is able to detect drones “on the go”, without additional settings.

@@garwhittaker3743 Russians are obviously very insecure about the capabilities of their military. Or really the lack there of. They've been playing catch up since the collapse of the Soviet Union. The best they are capable of right now is achieving the U.S. status quo from 20 years back. The U.S. (and essentially all of NATO) are decades ahead in technology alone. The Russians and Chinese are trying desperately to compete. Even to the point of trying to parody technological capabilities by using off the shelf (consumer grade) parts. We have to remember that 5th generation fighter jets have been in development since the 1980's. Stealth technology since the late 1950's. Bottom line: The United States is the worlds premier fighting force. The gap is more than a couple generations wide. And the best the Russian government can do right now is create propaganda TV shows like this one to stir up discontent and animosity toward the U.S. so that their people don't freak out as military spending goes through the roof keeping that (decades old) status quo. Even their aircraft are drawn up on Windows PCs.

Fighters use a much higher band radar. Higher bands allow fighter radar to produce hi definition ground mapping, can see accurately very small targets etc. Stealth aircraft are designed to absorb or reflect away from the enemy this high band radar. But they are not designed to be invisible to low band radar. Remember the British radar towers of WW2, these used the vhf band which was used by television at the time. If you used one of these vhf TVs, whenever an aircraft flew nearby the TV screen would flicker, ghost etc. This effect was turned into radar. The US developed higher band radar during WW2 for their warships, the advantage was that the radar, high on the mast, could see the shell splashes so gunnery was very accurate. Vhf radar went out of fashion but is making a comeback as it can detect stealth aircraft. You see vhf radar on all Chinese warships now so they can detect stealth aircraft. An amazing nation. Despite very much lower military budget compared to Nato countries, this nation single handedly militarily and scientifically able to defend or protect itself against any attack by any nation or group of nations. This is the result of excellent education from early childhood to the university level. One area where Nato countries excel, in which Russia isn't able to match is in the creation of various intrigues ending up in color revolutions in which governments of the people are removed and replaced with with poodle of Nato. These poodle governments participate with Nato nations in the stealing of the resources of their own nations. One example of a poodle government is the one which was stablished after the Maidan new nazi revolution.

Since russia dosent have base outside its territory(except syria) all money goes directly into the army, research and develop, and also in russia wages are alot lower this helps also. Only way for russia to detect stealth planes it to erect huge radars that is visible from space. (in order to get big enough wavelength). You can see em on this vid. Theese things is exactly what the US have built up to defeat the last 30 yrs. They didnt even see the drone without narrowing the search, even when they knew where it was. They couldnt see the drone on radar before it was a 100m up when they pointed the radar at it. And then they say their radars make stealth planes obsolete? . Stealth merely makes planes harder to detect, not invisible by any means. If stealth was so "obsolete" then Russia, China, U.K., etc. wouldn't still be developing and/or building them. Tanks have been declared obsolete and are still being developed. Same with the aircraft carrier. Russia is trying to get their carrier operational again. China has a couple and is building more. The Brits have two again. France has one and many other nations have smaller variant. But back to radars, I'll give the Russians credit for putting a lot of emphasis on area denial and having very mobile systems.

Carriers were never called obsolete in full. They are only obsolete in major power wars, no Russian, US, UK, or Chinese carrier would survive for long if they went against each other, and in that case, yes, they are obsolete. For power projection on poor countries thou, best weapon available. Because nothings says f you like parking a whole airbase next to someones shores who has absolutely no chance of defending against it.

With that logic, soldiers are obsolete because bullets were invented, not to mention arrows, slingers, and fire. But I guess I can't imagine the kinds of ideas that go through the heads of people who get high off of thinking they won the Cold War outright instead of it being a negotiated end yet still having NATO exist during the 90s when nothing could effectively oppose them. At least until Russia decided that the West really cannot be trusted to keep their word.

well, the serbs detected radiosignals and sent up several missiles in that area. Noone rly hit the plane, but one happend to detonetate close enough to dmg the plane enough for the pilot to deside an ejection was the safest way. Noone had it on radar, noone had it on missilelock. And even more, the 117 is the least steathy of the US stealth planes. It was a fluke. We can all win the lottery.

Successes were made only in hitting civilian targets, army left barely touched. I still remember those fancy reports by USA how they shot down that many Serbian planes. Only issue was that Serbs never had that many planes to begin with. Tanks too, when they were pulled out half the world was like "wait what, haven't we destroyed those". Or those fancy harm missiles, about ~780 launched and scored only 3 hits. USA got a lesson in decoys and disguise back then.

As for shooting down the f17 the Yugoslavians had spies in Italy that told them when it took off and knew it flew the same flight path 3 times, could listen in on nato communications from the radar planes too the pilot, pointed the radar in the exact position/time where it was going too fly and still could only lock onto it when it opened its weapon bay doors at 5miles,they only turned the radar on when the f17 was close enough too avoid nato detecting it,they knew exactly which flight path it was going too fly and it’s mission and at what time, not to mention it was flying without the growlers, with that much intel it would be a embarrassment if they couldn’t shoot it down don’t know why they are getting excited,I highly doubt they will have that much luck and intel next time, let the S400-S-500 go up against a pair of F18 growlers lol I can assure you the growlers will make sure their seen but that’s about all growlers will let the radars do 😂

Interesting contrast between a Russian made documentary and a western one. In an American documentary they'll mention aspects of Russian weapons and why they need to be taken seriously. Overall, they're much more respectful and don't underestimate potential. Whereas, all they do on these Russian made programs are talk about how American weapons are crap and not to be worried about - because "they'll beat them all". Hard to imagine a country (former union) seeing so much war, but not learning you disrespect and underestimate your foe at your own peril.
