Epiphone's Legend Is Back! | Exploring The Epiphone USA Coronet!

Epiphone's Legend is Back!
Originally introduced in 1959, the Epiphone Coronet is one of Epiphone’s first and most successful original solid body electric guitar designs, and now it has come home to the USA! The latest Coronet is once again made in the USA and features the same symmetrical double cutaway mahogany body shape. In today's video, Sam get's hands on with these guitars for the very first time and explores what truly makes an Epiphone Coronet so special!

The volume and tone knobs look pretty sick. Pretty unique relative to everything else on the market. Hoping Epiphone builds out this USA line with more guitars that can rock hard enough to melt my face off.

knows! $1,800 a piece they are not likely sell many as their usa Epiphone line isn't selling that much any how. Would you pay $1,800 plus tax for this guitar!? I would never pay that much for this guitar. Nah, no way ! I remember back in 2019 I got a Gibson usa les Paul special double cut tribute in cherry with 2 p90 pickups and a nice Gibson soft wedge case for $440 out the door at guitar center! They already had em on clearance prices and there was 2 of em, one black one single p90 and real light and resonant and the other a cherry with 2 p90 pickups that weighed 13 pounds and the most rock hard mahogany you have ever seen! The neck is rock hard maple but this heavy mahogany is way harder, you can't even drill in to the body with black and decker screw gun, it's that hard and heavy! These new ones are much lighter wood like what Epiphone uses. Epiphone in China uses lighter weight mahogany and they don't use weight reliefs and they are still lighter than Gibson.

While I love single pickup P90 guitars, I think it's a shame that Gibson discontinued their SG Junior from the USA line. It was about 500 bucks cheaper than this new USA Epiphone, but already so great. But Gibson still makes the Les Paul Junior, which is also cheaper to my knowledge, but also great. I own both the SG and LP Junior and even though I love what Epiphone did here, I'd rather have the SG Junior back in the fold for less money.

It would’ve been more effort than it’s worth for Gibson to reproduce it. They would have make a production process for it from scratch, just for these guitars.

The original 59 Coronet had the same pickguard as fitted to the reissue. The thing that is wrong is the pickup the original had a New Yorker pickup. The New Yorker was single coil with a metal cover without polepieces like a mini humbucker with cream plastic ends.

I got the ebony reissue last year .. took out the wiring replacing with 50s wiring and new bridge.. got the original volume and tone pots made and SCRATCHPLATE . Had Curtis Novak make a reproduction of the new Yorker pickup shipped to UK from California.. and changed the tuners.. it's now one of the best and most playable guitars I own.. and it still cost less than half price of this one.. But I do love the coronet and this is tempting.. Is it a nitro finish ?

Hey, thank you for your question! I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying your Coronet! Although they carry the same name, there are a few differences between the two models. It's important to note that comparing the Epiphone Made in USA Collection Coronet to the Epiphone Designer Collection Coronet is similar to comparing a Gibson USA model to its typical Epiphone counterpart. The key difference is that the lower-priced model is built in China, whereas the USA model is handcrafted in the United States, much like the original Coronet from 1958. Additionally, the fretboard material differs: the USA model uses Indian Rosewood, while the other uses Indian Laurel. The USA model features a SlimTaper neck profile, compared to the Medium C profile of the Designer Collection. There are also slight variations in the wraparound bridges, with the USA model having a more period-correct style and different angles. Further differences include the slightly squarer edges of the body on the USA model, the different pickguards, and the volume and tone pots and controls. The USA model also comes with a hard shell case. There are some other differences also, but these are just some I think are important to highlight. I hope this reply is helpful. What's different? I just watched a Norm's video that had a '59 original. It had the Epiphone vibrato tailpiece and the New York pu but otherwise looked pretty much the same. Are the cutouts slightly different? Looks like the horns may be a little smaller on the new one and the flats going to the neck may be wider. I don't know. I do know that a Jr is $100 less.
