Their mom was so talented and highly educated, particularly for a woman in her time.

I love how emotional Jeremiah in particular gets... I always have a little tear in my eye and shivers when the real happens. Its so lovely to see that he does too. I'm pretty sure Nate feels it too, but he doesn't show it. Great job always.

I could never hire any one flip my home for me. Contractors yes but, picking the materials and layout definitely my own tastes!

I like the idea of custom-made living room shelves, but I would put some books or personal memories about their mom/family instead of mass produce dust collectors.

I like the way Nate put the golden bowl on top because that basket didn't look good at all but I prefer the way Jeremiah redone the middle shelf. Sorry Nate lol

But he is so divided for us to live there. I know with your great decoration and getting walls down maybe I would live there . Because the Terrace has a wonderful view to the Ocean. This apt is in front of the Ocean beside. Arrive Hilton Hotel. What I don’t like is the small kitchen and no space for my cloth . Please HELP ME !

I really dislike where they put the piano. You come into the home and have a really narrow passage between the piano and the sideboard. Also, a piano is sensitive to temperature changes. To put it right next to the entrance is ridiculous. Everything else I like. 😂

1st world problem lol. Makeover's are for disastrous home decor/ lack of it - and people living in poorly planned rooms/usage of resources and the designers show how better to live in that space. This original home was OK, it had it's own charm and most importantly - reflected the Mother's tastes and unique talents and life experiences. The new place looks like a cookie cutter home magazine showroom...where's the mother's and family signature things? Like the one daughter said..I can;t even remember what it looked like because it looks SO etc etc. When you makeover a CHILDHOOD FAMLY HOME..you don't remove the childhood experience- that's what makes it a home.

Finally, people who understand the difference between “modern” (like the bookshelf they built in the living/dining room) and “contemporary” (the reframing of the art and photographs), and know how to use the terms. That said, when Nate said at 7:48 “In the 1950s, when their house was built, there wasn’t a lot of architectural detail,” I had to roll my eyes. The absence of neoclassical or baroque flourishes is not the same as an absence of detail. A clean, modern aesthetic might not be for everyone, but it is still an aesthetic, and to imply that it is somehow lacking shows a dearth of imagination.

It seems fair to say that there wasn't a lot of architectural detail, which was the aesthetic of the time. That's not to suggest that it was lacking, but just pointing out a difference between styles.
