Epic Storm: Bering Sea Crab boat rides it out.

Фильм және анимация

In October 1977 a massive storm swept onto the Bering Sea during the king crab season. Most vessels ran to Dutch Harbor for cover from the storm.. A few chose to ride out what turned out to be the fiercest storm ever recorded in Alaska at the time. Check it out! Deadliest Catch fans take note!

The Sea Venture was 240 miles north that day, we jogged in place. The Seas were massive although I recall that it was a sort of welcome Rest Period from and otherwise heavy duty grind. 1,200,000 pounds 1977 King Crab for the Sea Venture, it was 77 Cents a Pound back then. Best of luck to those who continue today.

1,200,000 was about the total qouta for king crab this year... Its all jacked up now. Ive rode some pretty knarly ones out, think the worst was thanksgiving 2018. The water was coming in through the stovevents in the galley, one of the few times ever stopped for the weather.

@@ChinVape usually 5-6 guys depending on the skill of the crew, been pot boat Catcher processors with 21 guys. This year will be the lowest prices we have seen in a long time. Salmon prices dropped about 50% from 1.45 a pound to .70. Good year to talk a break and I am lol I just got off the Elnore J for Salmon tending as a engineer. I post some vids here in a day or two.

Guess I missed the 30 plus footers and 90 knot winds. Looks 15 foot and 40 knots on scene. Just another Tuesday in the Bering Sea.
