Everybody knows that medieval French soldiers used week-old baguettes instead of war hammers and maces.

Do you mean tell us you neither learned algebra nor know how to use the calculator that comes with every OS? 20,000 / 900 = 22.222~ 15,000 / 900 = 16.666~ Which remain impressive figures, considering those are averages and many knights possibly reached the three digits.
@levangelashvili727
7 жыл бұрын
Banzay27 16-22 means average is 19. Add to that the fact that in medieval centuries the most casualties used to be taken while running from the battlefield. So, In this battle most knights wouldn't kill more then 10 men. And that's normal, It was like modern special forces versus untrained and much worse equipped levies without leader.

The Albigensians and Cathars really were not Christians. They believed that there are two gods (not one), one evil and one good. They believed that it was the evil god who created the earth and that all matter was therefor evil. They did not believe Jesus was the son of God, but rather that he was an angel (and had no real physical form, because they believed all matter is evil and so if Jesus had a physical body he could not be clean). Catharism is less similar to Christianity than either Judaism or Islam.

Kings won battles by being good strategists, not brave warriors. Maybe he was brave, but he still tried to get spared and ransomed. Maybe he was a good strategist until then, but this battle was an utter blunder. Hubris got plenty of highborn killed, back in those days.

Oddly enough, it has the ring of truth to it. The Battle of Bouvines, fought in 1214, had very few French knights killed...then again, few of the German knights (who lost btw) were killed. And Bouvines was a knock-down drag-out fight, between two well prepared, well trained armies (the Germans had 25,000 men, the French 20,000) This doesn't account for the infantry, which for Bouvine saw over 1,000 deaths on each side (plus all the German prisoners).

Vive le Roi et vive la France !! Thx pixie for all your vids. Keep going this amazing job!!
Defenders were victorious, such a rare sight
The day Caesar fought the barbarians: "Hm. Let me see what my army comp is."
Didn't quite go this way. The battle was lost because the King died, breaking the morale of the Aragonese completely, but his death wasn't like that. He actually exchanged armours with a knight so he could fight the battle without being known as the King, and tried to face Monfort in duel. Monfort, instead, avoided any duel and sent his knights against the man wearing the King armour, at which moment the actual King shouted "I am the King!", looking for the duel with Monfort. So Monfort avoided the duel again, sending a few knights against him, ending him easily enough.
I like when Apollo creates dialogue for awkward situation

We'll need to wait when the Repulic of Genoa comes out as a faction. You can't do the fall of Constantinople without Giovanni Giustiniani and his Genoese.
@IAssassinII
7 жыл бұрын
They already have Genoese marines, so I suppose that could work. The biggest issue is you would have to make the Ottomans the Seljuks of Rum. Alternatively, he could do the Latin siege of 1204.
@albertorepetto2909
7 жыл бұрын
IAssassinII Indeed the siege of the fourth crusade would be better with the factions released so far. As for the Genoese, there are also the Genoese crossbowmen, but the problem is that they are included in the French roster, and the marines are in the Crusader states. It would be better, IMO, represent them with their proper faction and with their full roster, without necessarily using factions that weren't really involved.
@albertorepetto2909

IAssassinII Anyway, any siege of Costantinople would be pretty difficult as far as they release some updates for the naval warfare.
@IAssassinII
7 жыл бұрын
I know this is impossible to implement via mod, but I would like to see walls mountable by sea, through ladders extended from ships, which would allow a faithful recreation of many more sieges. I know that the emperor Manuel Komnenos, when besieging some Normans who had occupied the main settlement on the island of Corfu, constructed a kind of naval siege tower to be used against the walls which rested along a cliff face on the waterfront. When the order to assault was given, the seas were exceptionally rough, making it difficult for Byzantines and Venetians to mount the walls from the tower. Additionally, the tower was presumed to have been made of poor quality, and the combination of rough seas and stone projectiles proved too much for its frame to handle, leading to its collapse with a sizable portion of elite soldiery falling onto the rocks below, the decks of the ships, or into the water where they were weighed down by their armor and drowned.

at 1:09 'Yo Popey Theres Some Infidels Down There...' LOL IM DYING
here is the description of the millites perfecti from the Mod DB page for Medieval Kingdoms 1212"Cathars did not recognize the legitimacy of any formal clergy. They distinguished between themselves as believers and “Perfecti,” (The Perfect) a special group who were believed to have special knowledge revealed to them. This unit is not necessarily historical, but represents nobles who had converted to Catharism. Their black and white colors were a deliberate choice to represent the dualist beliefs of Catharism, which believed in two Gods, a ‘Good’ God and a ‘bad’ God."
More of Medieval Kingdoms mod please. It feels glorious
Apollo when you talked about the guy getting gutted by a mace, it is realistic because some maces in those times ha spikes on the top and bottom so that they could do that.

Perfect last defence, outnumbered two times but win, good job.

Another great rainy day/muddy battle.

Apollo what are the different types of cav and what do they each specialize in? All I ever hear is shock cav and that you can't leave them in prolonged melee. Does that count for melee against other cav too? What does light cav specialize in for example. And just other cav in general. Also what is weddge formation good for?
That history lesson was pretty cool if you ever do more historical battles you should keep doing that kind of intro

backstory for the "last hug" guy: the dude fight in him was his brother,who joined the toloussian army to fight for his beliefs. the two met on this battlefield, forced to kill each other. his brother, the crusader, drops to his knees and opened his arms with the last words "I'm sorry brother"

Great battles x3
In the OG Battle the King of Aragon actually called the garrison out to fight and waited on a field with all of his cavalry. Simon led his cav out the gate, which somehow surprised the Aragonese(?) who just sort of stood there as Simon's cav (Simon led from the rear, while the King of Aragon was peacocking at the head of his army and got insta-killed) rammed into them, killing the king, routing the lead units and then they get slammed into by 2 more waves of Simon's cavalry. The militia who were at the time making trenches and shit outside the castle walls thought it was Aragon's cav return when Simon's horses rode them down into a river and slaughtering them. Yes the Crusade against the Cathars was tragic and brutal but it might give you some catharsis to find out Simon was killed by a catapult stone that squish'd him. It was launched by a few women in defense of the Cathars. And at the same battle he got splattered in his brother took a crossbow bolt to the groin. Sad times for the Montforts. Check out History of the Crusades podcast for one of the best tellings of the whole story.
I know this isn't the type of game you play but I and I know others would love to watch you play the Medival game For Honor😊
