That's cool, I live near Trier :D And yeah, it is said to be more than 2000 years old and the oldest city of Germany. The way you pronounce Trier is on point, it's only pronounced "in a more German way" with a harsh r and a louder i if that makes sense

Never a good idea to expose yourself during battle, especially when it's so cold out!

Epic battle!!!! Let's just say I watched the whole thing and plot twist the next day a whole tierish? Army showed up and killed the attackers with 40 casualties, that's how close it was

33:25 actually this was a common tactic, although it was done the other way around. Doppelsoldners where sent through their own pikemen against the enemy when they got to close in order to keep the distance and mantain the effectiveness of the pikemen at it's top, but perhaps the most famous (or infamous) use was during the dreaded "push of pike" when two units of pikemen engaged in close quarters combat, and both units would try to break the enemy formation sending doppelsoldners or, in the case of Spanish Tercios, Rodeleros (armed with swords and round steel shields). There is a great scene in the film Alatriste that portrays this moment very accurately.

this made me realize how much we need a total war medieval 3, imagine this on a new engine...

The saint on the heraldry of Trier is Saint Peter and the crossed keys are meant to refer to the metaphorical "keys" to Heaven that Jesus gives to Peter in the Gospel of Matthew. The belief during the Middle Ages was that Peter, as the head of the Church, had appointed Saint Eucharius as the first bishop of Trier and given him his crozier (the traditional bishop's staff) as the symbol of his office. This connection to Saint Peter, the "Apostolic origins" of Trier, were emphasized heavily by the various bishops of Trier in order to increase the archbishopric's prestige in relation to its rivals Mainz and Cologne. I had to write a term paper about Egbert, Archbishop of Trier (10th century) for one of my medieval history classes. :P

This has been the best damn scenic environment in all the videos I recall seeing so far. DAMN! Everything was down right worthy to become a picturesque painting. If I had a choice I would suggest Bob Ross to do the landscape and other environmental images while a renaissance painter comes in to create the figures fighting on that painting.

For curious people, there were 7 electorates in the HRE, since the 14th century. In 1444, they were the king of Bohemia, the prince-archbishop of Trier, the prince-archbishop of Cologne, the prince-archbishop of Mainz, the margrave of Brandenburg, the Palatine Count of the Rhine and the duke of Saxony.

Hey Apollo, great siege! I wanted to suggest doing another battle with you playing as Scotland. It's a classic faction that is challenging to play as and no one has any videos on Scotland. You could do a historical battle like the Battle of Stirling? Or redo your bannockburn battle from m2tw in 1212ad? Or you could do a siege and just play as them lol. I'm just really wanting to see more Scottish content. You've played as England and France and all the other classics plenty but you've shown no love to Scotland lol. I think the Saint is Saint Peter with the key for the gates of Heaven. Also, there is a St. Peters church in Trier... so... :) Could also be ST. Hubert though since he's mostly depicted with a key. ;)

The saint that you see on their tunic is Saint Maximinus of Trier. Like many cities at the time, they would be holding a key to represent the communication with God. Simmarlary to the Papal States which had two keys to heaven as coat of arms.
