Mamiya 645 lenses are really good, I have a bunch I use with my GFX 50R. Their macro lenses are excellent, on par with modern lenses IMO when it comes to image quality. I use them for negative digitalization. I also have a few teles for used for cityscapes and landscapes that produce amazing results. They just need a little more care when shooting, getting the focus right, choosing an optimal aperture, reducing vibrations from the camera using the electronic shutter and having a firm platform to rest the camera and lens.

@@nowisthetime6093 I think the 80 1.9 might be a little soft... 2.8 or 4.0 macro are likely to give you more sharpness. See my other response with sharpness test results. Overall color rendition from Fuji lenses are better in my opinion, but not that far off.

How would it compare to the contax zeiss? Thank you. The 80mm is the focal length for FF. Boosted on a MFT system it becomes a 55mm on MFT, ~110mm equivalent in FF I think

    Thought I'd share my sharpness test results. I don't think I'll be able to make a video about it anytime soon... I've tested all my Fuji GFX and Mamiya M645 lenses with Kipon adapter on my 50R using a focus chart and they show excellent sharpness at their sweet spot. Here are my results and aperture recommendation (best in parenthesis): Fuji GFX 63mm f/2.8 - 2.8ok ,4 , 5.6, 8, 11 (8) 50mm f/3.5 - 5.6, 8, 11 (8) Mamiya M645 35mm f/3.5 N - 5.6, 8, 11, 16 ok (8-11) 45mm f/4 N - 11, 16 (11) 80mm f/4 N Macro - 5.6, 8, 11, 16 ok (8) 80mm f/4 Macro - 8, 11, 16 ok (8) - more contrast than N 120mm f/4 N Macro - 5.6, 8, 11 (8) 120mm f/2.8 A - 5.6, 8, 11 (8) 300mm f/5.6 N - 5.6, 8,11 (8)

The max f-stop for the Kipon Baveyes is f2.8 btw. Anything faster than that is gonna be mega soft and not look quite right.

Thanks for the heads up Evan. I was thinking of getting this Kipon and the Mamiya. Then it occurred to me that a cheaper alternative would be another FF vintage 55mm or 50mm F1.4. But I have been wondering if there is a difference between the images they produced. Now I think I'll just go with the Canon FD.

Don't forget to flock your adapters! Most of the adapters have no internal light damping. This can lower contrast and colour fidelity.

I am looking at this adapter to use my phase one and mamiya 645 AF glass with my Sony A7RIV. I just wanted to confirm that you can electronically control the aperture? Does it electronically control aperture during video recording too? Or did you only test with manual 645 lenses? Thanks!

Hi, I would like to know if anybody has experience adapting m645 lenses into ef mount first then use ef mount speed boosters. What is the difference vs using kipon's native m645 mount focal reducer? If ef mount works just as well in this case, wouldn't it be way more flexible to do so?

Hi Creative Nords, I’m tossing up the 1.9 or 2.8 versions because of price. How do the f2.8 versions perform compared to its faster big brother? Because F stops are not consistent in light transmission I’m not sure but maybe it will be amazing compared to the other smaller f2.8 lenses I own 🤔

I have both lenses and I use them on their original film format (Mamiya 645), on fuji gfx and RED cameras for video... I guess it depends what you want to use the lens for and on what camera, but I'll say that the 2.8 is sharper that the 1.9 when both lenses are at 2.8. If you have a questions about specific characteristics of each lens let me know and I'll compare them for you

Should have got the 80mm f2.8 N kit lens instead...There is no point buying a fast lens if it can't be used wide open and the 80mm f1.9 needs to be stopped down to f4 to make it sharp, whereas the f2.8 is sharp wide open, so you effectively get a faster lens by using the slower lens! I have tried the 45mm f2.8 and 200mm f4 too and had to sell them because they simply can't match the optical quality of the 80/2.8. And I don't recommend using a speed booster to mount it, as the optical element/s in it reduce image quality. A straight M645-Sony E adapter would be much better option, and a lot cheaper. I used to use my 80/2.8 on a Sigma DSLR and I made my own M645-SA adapter for it made out of a M645 #1 extension ring. Now I have a Sony full frame mirrorless camera so I got a Sigma SA to E mount adapter and I use my home made M645-SA adapter in between to hold the 80/2.8.

Well it all depends on what you are looking for in the look of the lens. I don’t use vintage lenses if I want a sharp image I use them for the opposite.
