Was 16 at the time & a Dolphin fan. I turned it off at 24-0 in cold shock & sat alone with a silent TV for maybe a minute. It looked like it was going to be 80-0 SD.... then something inside me said, ‘it’s still early, turn it back on’ which I did. So I glad I did even tho Miami lost, it was one of the greatest games ever

Miami's gadget Play is correctly described as a hook-and-lateral but the stupid media misunderstood Don Shula, with the fools transforming the name to hook and ladder. Both of those teams were better than the Cincinnati Bengals but Dan Fouts was unable to handle the inclement and windy conditions as well as Anderson due to smaller hands.

Today's AFC Divisional playoff between Kansas City and Buffalo may have just outdone this one. There were 3 lead changes in the final two minutes and the game was tied 36-36 at the end of regulation. Mahomes and Allen each threw for scores in the final minute, with the Bills going ahead 36-33 with just 13 seconds left. But KC came back - using two time-outs - to get close enough for the tying FG, then won in OT 42-36. I thought about this SD vs Miami game from 40 years ago but I think today's may have exceeded it.

NFL, NHL games are rigged but not by the Italian mafia, they're virtually out of business. It is the CIA, shadow govt, and NWO that does it.

With the win in sweltering Miami, the Chargers were rewarded with a trip to Cincinnati to play in 900 below temps.

Great Game. I hated the Dolphins so I loved to see Shula get this heartbreaking loss. The Charges had the greatest offense minded coach in NFL history.

@@ediehl007 Belichick's offense isn't doing so hot now without Brady. And didn't do well with Bledsoe when he first took over either. The only coach who got anything out of Bledsoe was Parcells. Pete Carroll ruined Bledsoe, even though he did good with Russell Wilson

To think, the San Diego Chargers would experience an extreme climate change from Warm, Tropical, Miami to the Freezing Cold in Cincinnati the following week.

The bolts really missed their window. From approx 78-82. But along with the vikings/Rams of the 70s and countless othet teams. The 01-04 eagles and bills of 90-93 and and a dozen others. Who never got a ring. All those others i named made atleast 1 S.B. unlike Air Coryell. Tragedy. Just how it goes i guess.

I remember that game, how sick to my stomach I felt in the 1st qtr. Uwe von Schamann became known as Uwe von Choke after this debacle. But his choke was no worse than the badly exposed, over rated, hyped Killer Bs defense. The days of 2 white guys (Jake Scott & Dick Anderson) at safety and a SB title were long gone by 1981 and the evidence was the torching Fouts gave the Miami defensive backfield. Woodley was a proven choker in any clutch situation. Joe Rose was his roommate on the road and he said Woodley would start chain smoking whenever Shula benched him. The old Dolphins Curse came true for SD, they lost to Oakland a week later. Miami got mega revenge the next year on SD, beating them badly in the OB, but that weak defense was once again exposed and unable to stop the Redskins, costing Miami the SB.
