    @@phamduc1987 The play itself has been called "stop lurkers" or "hold lurkers" interchangeably for a while now by announcers or casters. The in-game order issued is "Hold Position" though. Lurkers actually do not do anything except for stop attacking for a just moment if you tell them to hold position while burrowed, as they cant move anyways =P. You need to have another unit in the control group you are issuing the order to, that actually can hold position, which forces the lurkers to stop their attacks.

    I honestly love the pacing of Broodwar compared to SC2. Lots of small victories and losses everywhere. You don't deathball super often because most maps don't allow for it, and even then you can't just A-move because of the limiting control groups and tide swinging spell caster type units.

  • @jake_with_the_BIG_snake

    @jake_with_the_BIG_snake

    Жыл бұрын

    agreed the thing that makes broodwar great compared to SC2 is that the tension and pacing is changing wildly throughout the games. This makes it more random and exciting to watch. The potential for comebacks is also greater. In SC2 the tension is at a constant high all the time, which makes it boring to watch imo. There are not many positional plays and the pattern or pacing of the games are just the same.

  • @F1ng0riginal

    @F1ng0riginal

    I agree with your points but I would also add that bad pathing also increases the amount of control you need so less death ball-y too. Really good pathing lets you box move a whole army whereas pathing where units are constantly bumping and blocking each other keeps you from moving your army as a giant unit.

    He just had no more money coming in. His left side base was getting overrun and he had no army to defend it with, and also he just lost the position on the right side, and since Jaedong still had 2 mining bases, albeit slowly mining, it was clear to Flash there was no way for him to survive longer than 2-3 more minutes. Actually Jaedong's strategy was brilliant. There are several layers: - He went for a risky strategy of taking far-out bases first so he mined out the corners of the map and then he still had bases with money closer to his production - easier to defend late-game. This meant a very difficult mid-game where he almost lost like 5 times. But he banked on his skill to survive that phase, and then eventually it became more and more desperate for Flash since he had the opposite problem, because terran has a very hard time defending spread out positions. - There are several points in the game where Jaedong saves his outposts with some well-timed lurkers at the perfect moment, which are just the level of mastery required to actually survive this type of strategy. Basically Jaedong was in crisis mode until he got Hive tech (defilers and nydus) - Also, Flash is very well known for his style to turtle on 3 bases while slowly securing a 4th base. And most people think they should be able to break a 3-base terran with superior numbers. But Flash is so good at defending he just beats everyone. But if you look at this game closely Jaedong never attacked into Flash's corner of the map, except for some harrassment early on. - Normally Nydus Canals are not really very important until very late game, but in this game Jaedong made excellent use of them because of him taking far out bases and spreading out over the map. This makes it so Jaedong can essentially be anywhere to defend, and Flash can't just bring him out of position by switching the place of attack. Flash knows this, so, in turn, he will most likely concentrate over one point of the map since it's not as good to split up, although we see some side-attacks in this game. Flash thought that by having the tank deny that 4th base that he's certainly winning, but he overcommitted to that spot on the map. A sort of sunk cost bias. Jaedong knows this too, and instead of focusing on killing the dreaded tank, which would have been risky (350/350 to research overlord speed and drop, + a bad trade on top of the ramp) and the game was really really close all the time, 2 fewer ultras/defilers at any point could have meant death), he instead realized that concentrating over one point means there's only one supply line of reinforcements, which allowed Jaedong to hit that line of reinforcements several times over the course of the game and those were the most profitable fights for him. Actually, even though it looks like Flash is winning, or close to most of the time, the game would have been over in Jaedong's favor much earlier if he didn't missclick the group that should have attacked the left-hand mineral-only base. Which is so cool to see because at some point Jaedong was not understanding why Flash kept having units, since in his mind the left-hand base was dead. When he finally realized he hadn't killed it he had a moment of complete suprise and anger that was, of course, immediately caught by the casters at the time. One of the most memorable games with incredible depth. You just don't see this in SC2, sadly.

    I thought that old replays were hard to find because they weren't shared at the time. For this pro in the past had mostly video broadcast but not really replays to analyse.

    Do you plan to have a playlist for another great Zerg player apart from Jaedong? Jaedon was great, but would be good to get an idea from another pro Zerg player. Not sure who was the second best after him. Effort or someone, I am not sure :)

    @@lapthom Savior was extremely good, but he failed to adapt to the evolving meta after people figured out how to beat 3-hatch mutalisk. Effort is probably the second best ever. I remember a game vs Bisu where they were fighting in 2 places on the map and Effort still had his scouting drone running from a zealot in Bisu's base. Legendary.

    Jaedong almost lost mid game… glad he nailed it and flash gave up his chance here. This match told me something about good ground to hold may bring you great advantage, instead of falling into dead position.

    This feels like prime Jaedong. I feel so sad when I see Bisu and JD getting destroyed by basically anyone nowadays. :( Also, 18:44 is very funny :=)
