50 years ago, I sat around at a friend's house (on the west coast)singing along with this as the turn-table spun. Now, here I am, 5 decades later, doing the same thing with a young couple I've never met in OK. Memories revived and mind blown at the same time.

As I am watching this particular reaction, I had the realization that while the two of you in the last two years have been exposed to an immense amount of fabulous music and great artists, you've never had one of the most important experiences we did growing up with this music. That being experiencing an entire album for the first time. There was something truly magical about coming home from the record store, taking the shrink wrap off the Record, putting it onto the turntable and staring at the Album art and reading the liner notes as you heard those songs for the first time. So many of the songs you listen to are from such classic albums. Like Led Zeppelin 4, or Springsteen's Born to Run, or the who's who's next, or the Eagles Hotel California. I'm not sure how you would incorporate it into the channel, but if you did it would bring you so much closer feeling the music the way we did Growing Up with it. Maybe you can do one album one or two tracks at a time over the course of a week. Generally considered the best rock album of all time is The Beatles Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band would be an awesome place to start. Not sure if you want to do this, but Led Zeppelin was always an album band not a singles band, and that's what made me think of this...

It’s not simple. It starts out with a six string guitar acoustic. Then they add a 12 string acoustic along with the 6 string, then Robert Plant sings out of Time with the music which is really difficult to do Van Morrison has that same ability. This song is so iconic that nobody has tried to duplicate it.

@@geoffrobinson I figured it out in standard open tuning EADGBE it starts on the open G string with a hammer on and pull off then to the D string with another hammer on and pull off ending with playing the open G string next is the strumming pattern all six strings G major chord next is to repeat all of the same hammer on’s and pull off’s then the next three notes are all on the G string pull off pull off ending with the playing the open G string the the strumming pattern D major chord I need a guitar in my hands. This is much easier if you lean to play G major with your pinky on the high E string anyway I don’t know if there’s any video of Mr Page playing this. The other notes that I didn’t mention are not as difficult. The hammer on’s and pull off’s are played with your index finger and the one next to your pinky. Just remember it starts with a 6 string acoustic and then they add the 12 string acoustic then drums Bass electric guitar while the 12 string is still being played in the mix. It’s one of my favorite songs except for the dissident sound of the middle break but they do bring nicely back in and the song ends in a unique and beautiful way….

I love reading other people's comments about their experiences. Those of us old enough to remember vinyl albums and the importance that they had on generations is pretty important. It is something most younger folks today did not experience and won't understand buying an album, bringing it home, putting the needle on the record and sitting on the floor in your bedroom mesmerized by the album covers and liner notes, reading the lyrics and listening to the music with such intent & purpose and wanting know every song on the album. Today people are fed songs, specifically designed to you so that you rarely get the full understanding of a band or artist's work. Many times the other songs on an album that radio did not play were so much better. B-sides on 45's were often times some of the coolest songs and we were fortunate to have radio DJ's that had the freedom to play what they wanted, not what corporate radio demanded so we were treated to songs that we may not have heard. Those days are gone and many of us look back fondly on them. Music, thankfully, brings us together and it has been such a treat watching you both grow into the music of the past. Keep it up!

I had this album (actually I had them all). Jimmy Page is AWESOME on the guitar. He played on the BBC when he was just a kid. When John Bonham died in 1980 (he drank himself to death), the band broke up. They knew they had something special and that without Bonham, it was over. He was irreplaceable. I remember the day he died. I was a teenager and I actually cried my eyes out.

The day the tickets went on sale, it was at 4am in the morning, as the line that had formed the night before got longer and longer along 8th Avenue. We got to the Garden around 11pm. What a shock when we realized that they decided to open up the ticket window. As the line began moving, we could not believe it! My recently departed best friend showed up in a taxi just as the lines began moving. He had driven in from Brooklyn, still in his pajamas, his "Jim Morrison" hair all disheveled, as we yelled for him to see us and join up with us in line. Precious memories!! Rest in peace, Molina ❤

Led Zeppelin's music is so multi dimensional. I think it is awesome that you can experience and enjoy yesterday's music. My grandparents probably wouldn't have allowed this album in their house, but that is because they couldn't understand what all the "noise" was about. Like you said, all of the guys in Led Zeppelin could have had a career on their own...so it is so extra special to have all that talent in just one band. They had it all! My older brother is the one who introduced me to "The Who", "Black Sabbath", "Deep Purple", and so much more. I was still a little girl when he was a teenager. I love the 60's and 70's. While there were some very talented bands in the 80's, music styles changed in subtle ways. Thank you for bringing my old albums to life again in this computerized and technological world of today. They did it all without all the tweaking in voice and sound. They really WERE that good that they didn't need it.

Yep. This is definitely one of Led Zep's bestest tunes. I'm not always a fan of Plant's screechy vocals but this is one of the few songs where it actually (kinda) works for me. As always, however; the musicianship is on point. The rhythm section (Bonham and Jones) is impeccable.

I remember going to band camp freshman year. We all had name buttons we made ourselves. This junior trumpet player's button had "Mellow is the man" written across the top. I asked him what that meant, and he told me about this song, and Led Zeppelin. That was circa 1981. Been my favorite ever since.

Another song that's kind of like this and also just a huge fan favorite like this one, is called Ramble On, if you haven't done it already. Everything about it is totally amazing, just like in this one. I love what John Bonzo is doing with that heavy kick drum and closing hi-hat on the off beats, and then combined with JPJ's Incredible bass line, it adds this really funky feel to it but it's still heavy but it's also still light and wandering, it's just a fantastic combination.

Oh don't get me started! I could write volumes about my love for Zep! You are so right, each of them are amazing artists in their own right, and when they came together they created magic. Imma total sucker for guitar so Jimmy is my fave member, but I love each of them. I could sit for hours and listen to nothing but Pagey play! There is also a special place in my heart for Bonzo. This song is a particular fave, but if I were to suggest a song that really showcases each of them, it would be "Since I've Been Loving You". That song just drips with passion!

Hard to label any of their songs as my favourite, except to say I really love Whole Lotta Love, The Immigrant Song, and I would love to go out of this world hearing Stairway To Heaven. So many other songs of theirs are so great, it’s impossible to rate them in order of favourites. I’m so glad you guys have decided to reunite us with these songs/ music and are enjoying them as much as we did when they were released back in the day. Every day you do bring a smile to my dial. Amber and Jay, You two have selected one of the best rock bands ever!!!! I have seen Robert as a solo act. Just unreal how GOOD he can sing. His voice is like a musical instrument.. The story is that the little blond girl on the album cover is Robert's daughter... Can you all fathom Robert Plant as your father??? Was this a treat for your ears or what?
