Awesome video! I’m planning a trip for mid Aug and this video gives me a great idea what to expect!

I’m watching this and all of a sudden I see y’all in your skivvies glassing from that substation on the edge of the shelf, realizing I drove right by y’all at that moment😂 even though it was hot that was about the best day of visibility for the 12 days I was hunting.

This has me laughing 😂…. I think we spent the first 4 days of our hunt running around in our skivvies and swimming in the river. Full blown scorcher…. Vis got very bad after this day! Did you end up getting into any bulls?

@@sauvfilms the days that were clear enough to glass were hot for sure. I think I saw more musk ox than caribou. I killed two, a broomstick bull and then an average bull with good shovels and bez but weak tops. Was really hoping to find a grizz but figured I wouldn’t since I brought a tag.

Great video. I want to do this hunt one day and it was great seeing what it was like. How much was it to rent the truck and cost of fuel for the trip?

Hi Matt! Thanks for the watch and support! It was very reasonable for how many miles we put on. Roughly $1,100 for the truck for the full week. We put on about 2000 miles. Probably around $400- $500 in gas. Then we split that 3 ways of course. If I do it again I would look further in advance for other truck rental options. We met a group of guys up there from Montana and they rented a really nice crew cab long box ford with a topper for 1500 for the week but it sounds like they had to book that about a year out. A guy wouldn’t need to put as many miles on as we did. Once you find the general area where the caribou are hanging out you can pretty much stay put and just hunt. There are a lot of guys that put a ton of miles on basically road hunting but this isn’t completely necessary! Happy hunting Matt!

They turned out European mounts around quickly and we received them a couple months after our trip so we must have lucked out. Thats unfortunate that the place burned down.

Hi Hayden! Thanks for the support! You can actually buy these tags over the counter up there. No applying needed. $650 for the caribou tag, $180 for your general hunting license, your flight ($400 for us), uhaul truck was $1100 split 3 ways and then I figure about $400-500 in fuel split 3 ways( we did a lot of driving though so you could get away with cheaper), we ate dry food all week (peaks) about $160 for all our meals per person for the week. Then I would stack up on bottles of water while you are in Fairbanks unless you like drinking pond water through a filter all week 😂 we were averaging about a case of water every 2 days when it was hot out. For a trip like this I thought it was super reasonable considering where you are and what you are hunting. Happy hunting!

Thanks! We ended up just buying cheap coolers at Walmart and flying it home on the plane. Just had to pay for one overweight checked bag which was around 200 bucks.

Did you guys have a cooler with ice/dry ice with you for the deboned meat for the remainder of the trip? Did you freeze the meat before you coolered it for the flights home or just pack the coolers really well with ice? Great watch!

We met a guy up there while we were driving around that had some freezer space for us to use for my bull due to it being 85 degrees the first few days we were there. I did fly a cooler up there though which was helpful for for getting meat home. There is a hotel in fairbanks that has chest freezer space that you can use for game before you fly home. I flew my meat home in the cooler I brought up and I just paid the overweight bag fee which was around 150 bucks so not horrible. I think I had around 95 pounds of meat that I flew back. How much was the airfare to get meat and rack home. Did you get it mounted if so did you do it up there or bring it back to lower 48.

I believe it was around $200 per person to get the meat back with us in coolers. We left the racks up there for European mounts at the Fairbanks tannery. With them being in velvet we wanted to leave this on and figured that we don’t know anyone in Wisconsin who messes with velvet so figured we would have someone up there take care of it. Then they just shipped them to us! Overall they turned out pretty good!

How did you keep the meat from spoiling in that heat?

We ended up renting freezer space in one of the little towns along the way. We spent a lot of time talking to people up there and everyone is super nice so we made some great connections and stumbled into a guy that had some freezer space we could use.

What month did y’all go?

Beginning of august!

I use clothes drier sheets and rub them all over to keep the bugs away.

glad you got it but 86 yards is a horribly unethical shot. I have had so many clients miss with bows between 40 and 60 yards.

60-80 yards is not unethical with the proper bow, those are normal shots in WY for elk….. Your clients should practice more. Not being rude at all.

How dumb do you have to be to keep pushing a caribou after it beds, if he wouldn’t have charged it with the decoy it would’ve died in the first bed
