Howdy doody, frienderoonies! Today we're here for some sound design fun using UVI Falcon 2 to create some awesome cinematic drums using only some noise and a bit of clever processing!
This trick can be done in any DAW with any synth that offers noise and a filter, so feel free to follow along with Serum, Vital, or whatever your synth of choice may be.
This is a super fun way to add some huge drums to your next track or just some general cinematic flair to your next build up or intro or whatever you might be doing.

My addition to this: You can use a similar technique with ambiant noise recordings rather than straight up white noise. It's a bit more finicky to find the right recording and part, but you can get percussion with unique timbres and textures.

Interesting! What sort of ambience have you used? Just to give a rough ball park

@@MattDoesSound Crunching leaves, train stations, ocean sounds are some from the top of my head. Some require more work than others. The station specifically had a lot going on. But it's fun to experiment.

Cameron, could you make a video about distortion types in FALCON?
Plot twist: Cam’s OnlyFans is solely comprised of his dog eating peanut butter
Very nice. More drum sound design in the future please 🙂
This was an inspiring look into your process, so thank you! And it's nice to see Falcon back in the playlist too.
I like your sound design things, really focused
This is crazy. I never thought you could make a drum sound from white noise.
That's all there is to it! Lol love it!
I want to thank you for making this well structured video with easy to follow explanation. I was trying to create cinematic drums in Vital for few days and they were anything but cinematic, now I know where I was falling short.
This is awesome. I've been loving noise-based drum synthesis for awhile now but I always end up wanting to bring it back towards a more natural sound. This has shown me that if you introduce enough movement you really can build some more multi-dimensional sounds just using basic elements, which is what I like. Thank you!
Thanks for the video, love the sound design videos, excellent channel :)
A year later this tutorial has helped immensely with sound design on the Syntakt; the secret was all in the filters and envelopes, and I was struggling to make some angry sounding toms on the groovebox. This got all the way there using SYbits machine as well as giving me tips to beef up the digital snares. Very helpful.
Cool one! Thanks for showing us!
Thanks for showing this technique!
That was immense. Cheers Cameron
thanks a bunch, i was missing something to my drum sample making and you just filled in the blanks. much appreciated
This is fantastic. Thank you for being so clear and thorough!
Marvellous, thanks Cameron!
Now this was great!
Nice. Inspiration has been acquired. Level up!
Great tip, thanks so much
That was the most insightful, informative video I've seen on this subject, and I've been trawling KZread pretty heavily. Thankyou!

That's a supercool tutorial! 🚀
You explain so clear I have the impression I can do the same in a snap. Cool.
Best Vid I've seen this year. Period.
Cameron you're a gem in the community 💎
great video thank you
WOW! Didn’t know that FALCON is so HUGE! I will try to get this sounds in Ableton! ))) Thank you very much!
Giving this a try today
Thanks for the Video! It's really interesting and helpful for someone like me who is starting out in sound design. :)

Songs are measured in bpm (beats per minute). Venus Theory videos are measured in cpm (cool per minute).😁
bruh this is crayz
This is great. This seems a lot like a LPG or low pass gate. As the amp decays so does the frequency range.
why is that all your videos like, exactly what i need
I love coffee too.... subscribed for.......ever....:-)
Using a convolver was key to the authentic sound for me.

I'm a huge fan of UVI Workstation and their Digital Synsations pack- I have had my eye on Falcon for a while, so this is a perfect opportunity for me to see what it's capable of in the hands of a professional, as oppose to some random KZread tutorial. Thanks homie.

14:16 I have a MiniBrute 2 and I created that same exact metallic sound. It kinda reminds me of the metallic beat from T2 “T-1000/Escape from the hospital “.
Neat

I'd be interested also in how to transform a drum set into something more interesting, more cinematic, more distorted to give my rock song another energy ,out of space maybe. I'm using falcon also
Hey Venus! Awesome video! What MIDI keyboard do you use?
goat
I'll try that in Pigments.
Cool stuff Cameron! Where did you go to school to learn sound design? If you don't mind me asking. I'm trying to get started in a career of sound engineering.
Great tutorial, I just have to ask: the expander filter you used looks like it comes ready with a very high resonance point at the cutoff, how much resonance would you dial in with other types of filters?
Falcon is so niiiice!
You should do a tutorial on how to create basslines with your voice.

How do you get your glasses SO DAMN CLEAN! LOL :D I've tried all sorts of liquids and wipes but I can never get them completely smear free and crystal clear.
👍👍😊😊
wished this was in massive as it has all these tools but its a bit more complicated because there not all laid out the same way
Where to find the "dynamic" knob in serum for this, or how to implement it some indirect way?
Thanks Dad.
Hey, can you give me a recommendation for a synth that is flexible but also good in regards of workflow? I feel like there's a sweetspot, of course you can just go modular but, having to configure everything all the time is just not practical in my experience. I'm coming from Serum and am getting tired of many limitations (for example not being able to modulate how much something modulates another thing), but I like sticking to one synth and getting to know it very well, not really interesting in switching synths all the time. I'm thinking phase plant or voltage modular, but I'm not sure. Any thoughts on this?
@JasonGillmanJr
3 жыл бұрын
Well, Voltage is essentially virtual modular, but still a solid solution (could rig up some pre defined patches and go from there). Phase Plant is another good one, and the sub model (if you can't/don't want to pony down the coin for the ultimate toolbox) is easilly the best I've seen ($10/mo and every 12 months you get a $100 credit that is cumulative). Pigments may also be one you might be interested to take a peek at as well. The only downside is that you only have two oscillators and two filters. However the modulation capabilities are pretty good. Further, you have your choice of analog, wavetable, sample, and granular engines for the oscillators. However, given you're coming from Serum, you may want to take a peek at Vital (vital.audio/). The nice thing about Vital is that you can get it for free.
@MattDoesSound

I'm far from a synth expert, but Massive lets you modulate how much you're modulating your modulators. And then you can modulate that. Your computer might have a fit though.
15:08 can you recommend any reverb pedals with that same exact sound?
sounds clean as fuck
somehow i couldn't replicate it in serum i used the LP12 filter and tried various cutoffs and Res, but i always lost the noise, either it was basically like before, so just plain white noise or if i moved the cutoff ever so slightly to the left all the noise was gone and only the mids and lows where hearable if however i changed the envelope for automating the cutoff or the range of the automation at the knob the only thing that really changed was that it was getting lasery I just couldn't find a setting that somewhat came close to your result after the first filter perhaps someone did it in serum and could provide me his filtersettings, that would really be nice :)
anyone know the settings for the filter in phase plant?
I'm new to sound design, and I don't understand what the multiple lines (9:40) that he pulled out on the EQ actually do. I only understand the single starting yellow line. What are these multi-colored lines, and why use them?

Falcon isn't free, but it's pretty badass. And it's limited only to your imagination, really. Cameron has raved about it in some of his other videos, check them out for a whirlwind tour and his overall review. If you're on a Pro Tools subscription, that comes with a free AAX-only plugin so it's free in that case (and just recently updated to 2.1.2).
