As the swell filled in, so did the crowd. This day at Pipeline had everything: massive keg barrels & heavy wipeouts. But most importantly, it had Ivan Florence. A man who not only makes everything look effortless, but also finds a way to part the crowd during every set. Enjoy 🤙

As always, your videos are the closest thing to being there on the beach. The sights and SOUNDS (natural ocean- no crazy music banging away) of the beach at Pipeline. Amazing how being this crowded generally one person per wave and some great wave reading by those surfing.

Thank you 🤙 Yea, and there's levels to the wave reading out there. Most of these guys are pros/semi-pros, but you can tell the ones who have put in the time out here. Guys like Ivan, Benji, Makana, Koa, Barron. They just always seem to be in the right spot 🤙

@@OffDaLip I was once a very good tube rider (for hollow beach breaks and El Salvador, Hatteras, SoCal, etc.) but never rode pipe....plenty of friends though who moved there or surfed there heavily in the 1970's (Gerry Lopez, Reno A., Bertlemann, Shaun Thompson Era) but you are right several of those in this clip have it down on when to fade a little and then pull up.....or when to immediately step on the gas in order to make the sections. And then others....well, you better be slicing the face and forget "dropping in", you better start driving asap or you will be swallowed up and never get to the shoulder for that last ODL :)

@@gabrieln3613 Yea exactly, there's so many different skill levels of barrel riders out there, even at the pro level. Just watch a guy like JOB or JJF and see how they are able to read exactly what the wave is gonna do, and then surf the wave accordingly. It's really a bunch of split second decisions/actions that create either an epic ride or a deadly fail. What a piece of reef 🤙

It was crazy because many of those waves were going unridden, or just weren't being completed. Then Ivan paddles out and just seems to find waves that the rest of the crowd can't find. That's one thing the camera can't show 🤙

Dang what a wave hand made surfboards tune em in at other spots then once you know your good take it to the line. Zuma in the 90's before the tourists took over remodeling the shoreline used to get half as heavy as good line the line pipeline mental surfers on mental surfboards equals a mental surf video I'm still down wanna surf where um point breaks at 50 sounds cool but too chill....wish Zuma still broke with less kooks hanging out yelling at every wave you catch from the shoreline like complete kooks not there to surf just harass...wish i could push people like that off cliffs...teach them beach respect....
