We just got back from two months in Spain and spent our last few days staying in Madrid and Lavapies. I had notes from having watched this video so was able to enjoy (among other things) the amazing Zapatilla at Melo's and the best patatas bravas we've ever had at La Esperanza. Thanks!

We are sat there right now James, absolutely delicious seafood! Crab, Garlic Prawns, Cigalas (Norwegian Lobster) and the Merluza, perfect white fish, OMG!!! Add in the Tomato salad & bingo! Cheers for the nod buddy, immense soul food, LOVE IT. Muchísimas gracias amigo ❤ ❤❤

I caught a sound of that squeaky door and boy was it satisfying. You know that you are going to heaven, being in there. It looks like dyeing in heaven, and they don't know what to do with you - but to return you back to Bodegas Alfaro; seems like an out of this world experience.

That fish with the green topping made me so hungry for that dish....

Melos was one of my favorite places I ate in Madrid, the peppers were really good too

When I lived there we called it Limpia Pies. Love it.

Love the gambas in La Casa Del Abuelo....lovely cosy little place

Yo viví 4 años en Lavapiés, algunos que echo de menos: La Berenjena (platos súper originales), Yokaloka (increíble japonés y a buen precio dentro del mercado de Antón Martín), Olivetto (Italiano súper tranquilo y muy rico), los desayunos en el Benteveo (hacen su propia mermelada) y no sé si habréis probado los ajos al horno con queso camembert en los Chuchis, son lo mejor!!

Amazing content as usual! Literally can’t wait for my visit next year to get stuck into some of these

@@spainrevealed hi james have you noticed that they absolutely never devein prawns in spain/madrid, you can go to great bars like el boqueron, la cruz in cascorro etc where they do amazing gambas a la plancha and cook them perfectly but they dont devein them which just means that they taste a bit gritty, i always think its a waste of a great product, but maybe its just personal preference.

This video was awesome and has me so excited for our first visit to Spain. We signed up for your Ultimate Madrid Tour for January 3rd and cannot wait! A few questions for you, we drink a lot water when we are traveling, will there be easy access to good tap water to fill our own bottles? Also, I have watched many of your videos, and have not seen a lot of fresh produce featured, how is the availability in restaurants in Spain? We certainly don’t want to look too touristy, but we will need some fresh fruit and veggies with all the wonderful meat, seafood and cheese we’re about to DEVOUR! Muchas gracias!

Great video! I have first hand experience at some of these bars, so I can attest to your reviews being spot on. Now I need to try the other places. I suggest you add addresses to your written list of bars because there is more than one Bodegas Alfaro in Lavapiés. I've been to both, and enjoyed both.

The Galician ceramic glasses to drink wine are called "cuncas". They were out fashion for a while, but they are back!

I laughed so hard when that bar was closed. We ran into same situations almost every night in the Andalucia areas. We were given a recommendation, drive there with huge anticipation, and it was closed.

Any Christmas tips? Will be in Barcelona this Christmas and looking forward to it! Came across your channel and I’ve been binge watching all your videos before I arrive this Friday!

Nope it's open! Ate there last night, another nod to James. The Zappatilla, another OMG!!! Only order a half, it's H-U-G-E! Superb. And the Croquettes, wow. Couldn't finish them - para llevar por favor! Simply superb man food!!

Freshest Seafood and fish goes to Madrid first thing gin the morning, 3.30 am gets to restaurants and bars there at 5 to 6 am latest, always the best and freshest, always ask what time it arrived

Looking forward to our visit in a few weeks with our daughter (who lives in Madrid)! We have 2 separate tours with Devour and can’t wait to experience some of the wonderful places that you have generously shared! Estupendo vídeo como siempre. Sólo una cosa, en la descripción repetís Los Chuchis y os falta el Melos, con sus "zapatillas y croquetas". Otra cosa...¿No merecería estar aquí la taberna de Antonio Sánchez? Ha perdido algo desde que lo trató de modernizar un nuevo propietario y retiraron cuadros originales que había a la entrada, pero no deja de ser la considerada taberna más antigua de Madrid y tiene mucha pátina todavía. También a los que vivimos en Madrid nos son útiles vuestros vídeos porque recomendáis autenticidad y no trampas para turistas. Gracias.

I love wine, but I don’t know much about it. I am afraid I will look like a fool in those wonderful wine bars. How do I know what to order? Can you give me some tips?

Not all what I would call "tapas", wouldn't you say, James? Some of those were small meals. A 17 Euro cheese board is above what most people would do. I do appreciate your enthusiasm and, as you know, there is so much more that Lavapies offers.

Taking down all these names for my next trip to Spain!

I always take the head off first, then pinch the tail off, the mid section of the prawn comes off easily.
