The EP Baitfish is an insanely versatile minnow pattern. This fly can be used in freshwater and in saltwater, for Bass, Pike, Stripers, Tarpon, and just about any predatory fish that swims. The pattern is easy to tie because it's repetitive and uses only a few materials. The EP Baitfish can also be tied in a variety of color schemes to imitate just about any kind of bait. If you're a streamer angler and you prefer targeting predatory fish, keep a few of these in your box for the next time you're out on the water.

Great looking fly. Wicked colors. Just add some dots and you'd have a watermelon slice baitfish.

I generally find myself adding to much on the fly making them hard to cast because it has a tendency to make the fly what I call parachute , keeping them thinner they settle into the water faster and into a more natural look , great pattern 👍🏼

Thanks for the helpful tutorial. Solid advice on keeping these patterns sparse. And then use about 1/2 of that. On my initial attempt I used too much material and packed in too many ties along the hook shank. And we'll done reducing waste. Cause they don't give those EP fibers away.

well done! nice v-tie style. i always strive/tie for neutral boyancy & horizontal attitude. i would use stick on eyes to "lighten the load" up front and and even less resin. forgive me I'm j just crazy and obsessed about such things...

Finally a baitfish fly without a ton of folding over. I think I can do this. Do you have to use EP? Or could craft fur work?

Anybody have a link to bait fish silhouettes? My second attempt came out decent (still overdressed even though I use 1/2 the material of the first one). I think I will get the hang of how much material to use long before I do a good trim job!

why don't you use a brush to spread the fibers evenly before trimming?

In this situation, using your fingers works fine.

Your work is fine, but I am asking myself and asking you a question; all these filaments of more or less plastic material will end up in the water and/or in the bellies of fish. You and I and millions of Internet users would surely like to be able to enjoy many more years of the benefits of this planet. Isn't a reflection on the choice of ecological materials necessary? for reading, thank you.

you are right. there are plenty of good eco friendly materials to work with. why add more plastic to our waters? these synthetics should/could be made bio-degradable..
