Ep 21. Dinghy Cruising: Winter overnight cruise on Trim, a Welsford Navigator. Sydney, Australia.
An overnight winter cruise in Pittwater - Sydney Australia. We give Trim a real go in plus 15 knots, overnight in a cove and meet up with friends on our way home.
Vikings courtesy of the Sussex Inlet Viking Festival - We filmed these guys before heading home due to the wind warning.
A little GoPro tip thrown in!

Thanks Chris. Only our third time out - already an improvement. Cheers, Josh
The little buddy heaters are great, they'll shut off if they tip over. Nothing to worry about with ventilation on your boat. Just crack the windows on my little camper and I'm good for at least three seasons!

Winter is coming! Sail on!
Great work again. She seems very spacious and stable yet fast. A good RAID boat indeed.

Thanks Rob. Yes she is all those things, looking forward to more practice! Cheers, Josh
Wow what a great video. Great to see Trim the Navigator sailing much better. A bit of finessing of the rig goes a long way. Best photography yet!

Thanks David. I replaced the jib halyard too. It goes twang now. Much easier to balance. Thanks for your compliments!
Thanks for the cruise in Trim, Josh. Looking forward to more, more, more!

Looking forward to doing more Mike. Thanks for dropping by, Josh
Great Josh, I love the mic tip and the drone footage, looked like a great sail with blue skies and not too ferocious winds, cheers Paul

Just ferocious enough! I was reaching out into Broken Bay and then back behind West Head for shelter. Did this many times. The mic thing works great, no wind noise at 15 knots. Any whistle in the opening shots is the rigging, not the camera. Thanks for your comments. See you soon. Looking forward to your video!!
Great video josh looks like your enjoying trim. You are very clever sailing and using a drone which really captures the boat sailing. Thanks for sharing. Cheers Steve

Thanks Steve. Yes flying and sailing is hard to do, and getting the drone back in the boat is risky. I have the finger cuts to prove it! Thanks for your comment. Josh
Nice account, good work, thanks for sharing it. I am deeply envious of that gas heater. Trim is looking good, happy with her new skipper I think.

Heater $60 from Anaconda Gary. Takes those cheap butane cans. Thanks for dropping by.
Nice, getting comfortable in and with your latest boat. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, better at sailing it this time. It likes a stronger breeze. Thanks for dropping by. Josh
Thanks for another enjoyable video. You looked like you enjoyed the swells in Broken Bay. The drone footage added a new dimension. Glad you finally shook out that reef. Trim may be humble compared to the two big reverse-sheered motor cruisers she was tied up to for lunch, but she is a lot prettier. I bought a 'Buddy' propane heater for my T/S then returned it after I read all the warnings in the instruction leaflet - but a dinghy has better ventilation.

Thanks for your comments Andy. Yes I was still unsure how the boat handled so the reef stayed in most of the trip! Cheers, Josh
Класс. Очень красивая, природа! Спасибо за видео и за рассказ

Great to see another nice Navigator out…was in Sydney just before the long weekend and wondered if any of the dinghy camping gang were out enjoying the nice weather…and liked the rear folding cleat tip: will do so on mine I think, cheers Paul and “Kotuku”

Hey Paul. I got the cleats online, do some searching and I am sure you will find them. About $40 each. Thanks for watching and commenting. Josh

Awesome! Gene says he might actually love Trim after all. Thanks for the mic tip - where did you source the foam?

EBay- Mic pop shield. Amazon too. Get good double sided tape- this stuff is automotive grade.
Always so envious of your sailing grounds!! What an amazing place to sail a dinghy. How heavy is Trim? She seems to fair well in light winds?

Not sure of weight but I can bounce her sideways on a trailer by myself. I think nominally a 140kg hull weight. I have had some lee helm issues in really light winds but I suspect that’s my fault. Thanks for checking in on the channel. Cheers, Josh
Does Trim have a topping lift? Or do you use the halyard? Now I see it. Looks like a fun boat.

Good luck with the build. I have huge respect for those that embark on a boat build.
could you sleep 2 adults inside?
If I may - When on Trim the outboard needs to be WHITE like everything else. Kidding of course... R
