Ep.2.19: "The Riker Maneuver" with Jonathan Frakes

Ойын-сауық

Season 2, episode 19 is here. Dominic, Connor, Erica, and Mark have an awesome conversation with living legend - Jonathan Frakes - Commander/Captain William Riker.
Thunderbirds. The Star Trek Enterprise Finale. Picard Season 3. Directing. Acting. PANCAN. Picard Season 1. Star Trek The Next Generation. Captain America. This one could have gone on all day and still be great. Wash is out of uniform today, but looking good. Erica gets some fan questions in, we play a round of Star Trek Trivia, and we subject Frakes to being "Stuck on a Deserted Island with Connor Trinneer.” Get ready to have a laugh.

I ran a Gargoyles panel with Frakes and Sirtis in 2013 at dragon con . It was in the am in a small room in the bowels of the Hilton. There was like 10 people in the room because no one realized who the voice cast was. We hit the hall and filled the room and got the room wound up. They came in to a room going berserk. The first thing out of Frakes was " You realize what this panels for, right?"

THE GOOD: What an icon to have on the show in Jonathan Frakes, words simply cannot give you a big lot of gratitude in having this great person on, well done all and at my time of watching the show had 192k views 🙌🙌👍 THE BAD 😢: I have been in corporate life for many years and one thing I have learnt is to listen to people and let them finish what they are saying, Dom you really must stop cutting people off as it is becoming quite infuriating. Frakes is one person who is so interesting to listen but you spoilt some of the moments by your constant interference too the point Frakes kept on looking at Connor, and seriously mentioning Jimmy Saville. Anyway an absolutely BRILLIANT show. Cheers 🍷🍷Ed from South Australia

@@CellPhonzRockEnterprises what really killed Enterprise was that UPN moved it to Fridays at like 8. UPN was a small network that no one got anyway, and that time slot was when everyone was out. This came after a decade of having multiple star trek’s on. We were spoiled. The show would have done great if they gave it a chance.

I watched Enterprise for the first time last year, having watched TNG/DS9/VOY while they were airing, and I greatly enjoyed all 4 seasons, and felt it definitely hit its stride by season 3. The only thing I didn't like were the time traveling Nazi plots, which just felt like political propaganda, so I started skipping those. But overall I like Enterprise 2nd best after TNG.

After 2 seasons I couldn't take it anymore. Had it not been for COVID, I would never have known any part of the series was worth watching. I've never liked the idea of prequels. Nevertheless, the one good thing can say about Enterprise was that it filled in a lot of continuity holes from the other series including the original vary nicely. Those shows were well written and enjoyable. The origin of the human type Klingons from the original series, for example.

Well things in novels and even comic books is hard to call canon because it doesn't have the quality of an ANNOUNCEMENT that a mainstream platform has. If they brought back Optimus Prime in a comic or a novel, nobody really would know or even care, but because he was brought back on National Television it's definitely official and directly canon. The whole concept of Trip btw on Section 31 is pretty interesting because it shows how old that dept. is.

I absolutely have to say something. I was going through a rough spot about six years ago. Bad marriage, worse job. And I escaped into Deep Space Nine re-runs and then Star Trek Enterprise and then Voyager. I would watch them over and over. Going to the Gamma quadrant or the Delta quadrant was an escape from a really shitty life. In discovering these interviews, it is nice to hear about went on behind the scenes to hear about the craft and to understand more about acting. But as I hear you talk more and more about your Star Trek experiences, I realize that what I was drawn to in my hard times was this sense of family that you were all able to bring to your work. I love how you have all created this professional family. What a blessing you have all been to each other and to the fans. Thank for sharing with us. Thanks for these series of interviews. What a moment. Troy knew immediately, her look was devastating. This was really it. With Worf beside him RIker showed everything about why we adore these characters, this ship and this show. Connor, Dom, Erica and Mark - congrats on another great episode! Another huge get for the Pod, and you pulled it off spectacularly as per usual. Mr. Frakes was very jovial and a great sport, didn't mind having a few laughs as at his own expense. (My younger sister and I quite enjoyed Thunderbirds when we were little - though she remembers far more of it than I do.) His short time as Captain America sounded wild, I wonder if anyone who got to see him would be up for sharing their story? While his tales about directing and his time on Picard/TNG were fun, my favourite aspect of this episode was getting to know his stance on the Enterprise "finale". I know it gets discussed alot by the fanbase but getting to hear an opinion from someone (aside from our lovely hosts) that was a part of it was really cool. That's awesome you've managed to snag Levar for a future episode, I'll be looking forward to that one. As a big Tom Paris fan, I'd be overjoyed if you'd be able to get Robert Duncan Mcneil! All and all, another awesome episode, I'll be eagerly awaiting to find out who will be on next week. As always, happy Shuttlepod Sunday everyone! 😊🖖💚🍃

It's kinda gutting that something like Thunderbirds can damage careers for people who are a part of them. As a kid who was obsessed with Thunderbirds I remember being so damn greatful that they decided to make a live action movie. I didn't care what critics said or what movie buffs thought. I got to watch thunderbird 2 in a cinema. Worth it!

Its amazing the different perspectives... re: final Enterprise episodes. I understand where people are coming from... but the reason I thought it was a very good idea is because it served to truly solidify Enterprise into the canon of Star Trek by having TNG tangibly deal with the existence of a prequel series. And it simply was not done in an insulting way. I was maybe visually disturbed that Riker and Troi just were looking a touch rough for trying to play their season 7 selves, but otherwise it wasn't handled respectfully, no?

My much older sister & mom always had GH on when we got home from elementary school. (Yes, watched The Wedding.) Weirdly grew up on Genie & Jonathan, separately. I just found this show and I absolutely love it!!! I love the length and the casual warp and wend of the conversation. It has really kept me company. I have been binging episodes all week! Dom and Connor...Really happy to see you two doing this. Though I have always been a huge Star Trek fan I was living in England during the years Enterprise was running and somehow missed it in its first run but during the Pandemic with time to binge watch I binged Enterprise and I really LOVE IT! It was fascinating to see how they fit the show into the past of Star Trek I loved all four seasons for different reasons, And normally when I binge watch anything I skip the opening credits but the theme song (which at first I wasn't crazy about but came to love) kept me watching the opening credits for every episode. The words really reflex the feeling of the first two seasons!' I'll stop rambling now but wanted you guys to know that I love the Shuttle Pod Show and to also say how much I love Enterprise and it should have had a fifth season!!

In my mind canon, Trip never died at the end of ENT. His death is never shown in the proper timeline. It was just a holodeck program. He was actually recruited by section 31 and became a high level agent so they tampered with the history books in order to explain his leaving enterprise.
