Ep. 19, Scaling Geologic Storage of CO2 to Impact Global Emissions

Listen as professor William P. Barnett and Stanford student Charlotte Kramer host a discussion with Hamdi Tchelepi, Professor of Energy Science Engineering and Senior Fellow at the Precourt Institute for Energy, to discuss the takeaways from an academic conference held at Stanford GSB on November 13-14, 2023.
At this conference, we convened sessions to address the following questions: Is it realistic to expect that CCS can scale to 100 Million Barrels per day by 2035? Do we have the right regulations in place? Carbon tax or credits? What role should the oil and gas industry play in CCS projects? Is the technology really ready? Will the public accept CCS, and how would we move public opinion? And ultimately, how does CCS integrate into a larger energy system?
The Stanford Initiative on Business and Environmental Sustainability Research Conference Series is hosted by Stanford Graduate School of Business and the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability.
Season 2, episode 2, recorded November 13, 2023.

There’s the same self congratulatory tone as you find in the venture capital industry . I don’t think there’s any other way for these types of individuals to think of themselves, except as exceptional. It seems to breed an unwitting arrogance.

Cars did not displace the horse and buggy overnight despite what is said in this piece . We need to look more carefully at the timeline and stop acting like fossil fuels. Have to be gone next year ….creates animosity with a partner who need to affect change rapidly
