Ep. 17: Bounty of the Berkshires: Berkshire County, MA

The fall foliage of western Massachusetts serves as brilliant backdrop to outdoor activities that include a hike up Mahanna Cobble in Pittsfield, kayaking along the Housatonic River near Lenox, and foraging for wild mushrooms in Great Barrington. Also featured are segments on the historic Red Lion Inn and a tour of the solar-powered Barrington Brewery for some fresh-brewed Octoberfest ale.

I grew up in Great Barrington. I'm 70 and as a young teen picked strawberries at this farm, and at about 15 years old I worked the roadside stand that evolved into the great place it is today. When the wind would blow at the stand all the signs would end up in the road.

You're so right. We do have to work so hard to be able to stay in this area and give our children the best chance of being kids and enjoying nature. Wholesome nature, family values.

Another great display of why I choose to stay in New England vs moving anywhere else in the US.
