The boat build is in full swing....and I am still worried about sponsors though. Still chasing sponsors, it is going to be a difficult task this year.
The Odisea 48 from Odisea Catamarans has just started to get built in Vietnam. The design is complete, the paperwork has been done and now the factory has had 4 days to start the job and they are welding like madmen. Finally the wait is over, the Elcano World Challenge will begin in 2024 people.
If you would like to help the project along then become a patron and get access to exclusive content.

This speed of work is something completely different from all other youtube boat building series! There's gotta be some sweat flowing from those other channels- your crew is setting a new standard- all other boat builders worldwide are being put on notice...IF they even have the courage to watch. Just amazing.

I never saw myself as someone who watches a boat being built. It seemed like something that was really freakin boring. However I have found myself being sucked into this series. One reason being I love this channel, but also it's actually turning out to be something that really holds my interest. Damn it Plukky, you got me hooked...lol

Can't wait to see her with 18 knots on the beam🏁
These build vlogs are fascinating. I agree with the commenter below..the workforce is outstanding and they are playing along wonderfully with the crazy plukky vibe. All power to the yard and hoping they get loads of orders. I would love to see the staff having turns on board at sea enjoying their handiwork after the build. Top stuff Plucky.
Is your boat gonna be 001 or 002?Imagine if you do manage to pull off this world Elcano Challenge how good that would be for this design and this builder, not to mention for yourself, you'll be interviewed by the entire world's media, especially yachting media

I do think we will get there, big news regular news it’s coming, I think the boat will need to get out in the water before that really happens, launch in Vietnam may not get main stream Australia, and US European news interest.
Your boat is going to be their first build. Your going to make this builder very busy when everyone sees what they have done
To have found out about and fabricated that English wheel just a couple of months ago they sure seem to have mastered it's use!! Compound, convex and complex increasing radius goodness!! It should glide effortlessly through the water with that flowing design. FTW sailing for the win! Cheers mate!
She is ready to rock! Big plakky!!👌☺️👍✌️🌅🙏☀️
Can you imagine how long it would take to make and fit all the pieces and weld everything together without a modern shop and lots of manpower? Also, without great working conditions and a highly motivated and experienced work force!

Enjoying the build. Just enough Plukkiness to keep it fun, but good coverage of the technical challenges they face. Engineers and crew seem to be onboard with your style.
The most important part of the welding is matching the welding wire with the material being welded, & no porosity 🎉

All looks somewhat chaotic so far, still not convinced I'd save much long-term hiring this crowd rather than Europeans!

While europeans welders/builders are absolutely impeccable and meticulous, these build engineers have multiple decades of experience and many very large commercial vessel builds under their belt. And they have developed a faster way to achieve the same quality and strength- this could shake up the boat building world to its core.
How about some video of your life in Vietnam while you are there Plukky? She is coming along nicely.

True that. But, like he said he should be able to get one of the many engineers to do some filming for him while he does some "human" interest filming outside the factory. The company has a vested interest in getting noticed. He could also tag along with some of those fn amazing welder dudes to their homes. I can't believe some of them wouldn't love this fun time with the Plukster.

How about all the bearings and seals etc. and spare parts department. And all the tools to repair everything? More suitable adds and relevant ads to support the build. Peace and Love. Peter. Thanks to the building team. Nice to remember being young again and building as we did back in the day, keep it up team. Proud on you all. Nuts and bolts and every piece of hardware, and it's maintenance in inventory and repair. All useful in requesting sponsorship. O know I keep giving you work to do Peter. :)

Thanks for the welding refresher Plucky, it's been a day to two since I even thought about that. And watch out for those floor bolts, you were getting a bit trippy there. Really amazing work these guys do!
Great video coming along quickly and its looking awesome
My god....The hand work volume is astounding. You could never pull this off, at three times the price, in the U.S.
A master class in aluminium boat construction. Top stuff
Good looking boat Plukky!
these guys are amazing at what they do.
Its amazing how quickly they are getting this done , with such great quality......people..... :)
Instaled memory foam in slippers so that way when i got to the kitchen I remember what I came for.
Loving the expertise of these craftsmen building the boat..
Ask the engineer for a Lazer thermometer, you can check the weld heat input parameters for consistency, for all welds as they are being done. The boat builders will likely ban you🤣 from the factory as they continue applying quality welds/fabrication, great job everyone, you too Plucky🌴
It's amazing how fast this is coming along, wow! 🤗💞
How about some info on how they are going to get your boat to the ocean and what they have to do for sea trials. Like to see more of the local area, give us a little break from the build. Thanks for all the great videos⛵

Looking good Peter. The boat that is!
Cables and wires. Are they put say through tubing with mechanical seals to keep water intrusion or air extrusion? Wondering about seals etc. for that job. This is very interesting. Also on the inside welds you mentioned. Maybe they weld the inside plate first from outside the inside hull and then weld the outside from inside the hull. Nah, nah, nah, say that. Inside outside sounds like a boat builder's song. Good job Peter on stepping up the technical build game. Proud on you!
Hi Plucky!!!!! So nice to see your enthusism and the progress being made!!!! I have seen some manufacturing in my life but these guys are really something special to watch!!!!! It is so fun to watch the progress on the boat.
Have the boys use the french wheel to make a collection plate or two! :) Hmm! What about the solar design #? And all the batteries. Introduction and excitement for future videos. Tease them, so to speak. Technology for builders and beginners.

Absolutely- great stuff! Nothing like it on the 'tubes' - hands down!
Great looking work. Jeffery good looking Tattoo, Navy ? Not much over head welding so far, I still have scars from the shipyard days...
I look at the reasonable doors in the bulkheads on this boat and think to the Lagoons and and how different they are , no wonder the 450's broke . Openings too big and not enough bulkheads left . The loads on a big cat are massive . In my mind Lagoon sacrifices strength for looking like cottage to sell to people who don't know any better . Yours looks designed to cross oceans with the right compromises . Cats have unique issues like a bow can be on a wave going up and the the opposite stern on a different wave also going up with the opposing bow and stern in a trough twisting the poor thing , that and no safety valve of heeling to dump a sudden squall . They have to be really strong and this build looks to check that box .

Indeed
I'm supposing the max 3 mm gap for a filet weld is to allow for some imprecision in the metal cut, but less or no gap is better.

Impressive work. Do they expect to make many more of these catamarans? What will be their capacity? Do they have more ordered? Will they be doing the finish work, or will there be finish carpentry done by a different crew?

Super smooth
Two quick safety questions: 1) I see a lot of these engineers welding without safety googles - are they risking their eyesight? 2) I see a strange mix of very high end respirators to no protection at all; I assume this is for aluminum particulates, but why the varied use of them? Thanks, and best wishes on the boat, which looks to be coming together well!
I had to share this on Facebook to all of the 2 people i know. Hehehehehe

Using a type of Tig welding very interesting as tacking the way they are will be so strong when finished. .

Sailing La Vagabonde on youtube. They recently splashed their new beautiful carbon Rapido 60ft trimaran which was also built in Vietnam. But had a few delays. They could be called a bit eccentric or something... but definitely do some interesting videos. And I really think Elayna and her designer went completely out of the box on the interior.
Simply amazing job those fellas are doing. You’re feeling and touching that hull, like your touching a women for the first time. Good on ya mate!
With regards to the steering going through the water tight bulkhead, have you thought about welding a cylindrical tube through the bulkhead to run steering cables etc etc? Just a thought not having seen the steering design.
@roscoeprimrose
4 ай бұрын
You beat me to it ;). If it's practical to make the tube big enough, you may be able to have the cable/linkage never touch the inside of the tube, so you wouldn't have to worry about wear on the inside of the tube.
