Hi there not sure if anyone has told you about doing “knitting math” when you can’t get the exact pattern guage. For example, if your gauge with swanky DK is 5.25 sts per inch/21sts=4” then you would multiple 5.25(your gauge) by the size that you want make so for example maybe that size is 38 - so you would multiply 5.25x38=199.5sts - so you need 199.5 stitches to make your sweater. Now go to the section in the pattern after you split for sleeves and you’ve casted on the underarm stitches - now look there for the size that is closest to the 199.5 - that is the size in the pattern that you need to make to get size 38. A quick way to do it is “your gauge x the size you want to make = XX divided by the pattern stitch gauge XX = XX . EXAMPLE 5.25 stitches per inch x my size 38=199.5/3.5=57(so you look in the pattern for the size closest to size 57 and thats the size you make to have your sweater come out at size you actually want). I know it’s crazy but it works!!! I hope that makes sense. I do it all the time because I don’t always get gauge or I want to use a specific yarn to make a pattern. Cocoknits has a video on it on KZread explaining it better than me. TinCanknits also has a tutorial online. I am doing it right now with the Ranunculus. If you have any questions let me know :). God bless and I also love magpie fibers yarns! I’ve gone to their flagship store in Maryland!! Beautiful!!! Good luck!

Do you care if we share this comment on another episode? This has been so helpful!! ❤ - Kaity
Praying for you Diana as you face another surgery. I am a retired nurse and taking care of others was easy but taking care of family just threw me for a loop!! I love all your knits and enjoy your sweet spirit! We just went through the Idalia Hurricane in Florida. Our little coastal town was hit hard!! So many of our friends lost their homes. The new pastor had not moved in yet but he and his wife had brought all their belongings ahead of time and lost everything!! My husband was the fill-in pastor for the church there for 18 months. The church has to be rebuilt and the parsonage. We received some damage but not to our home. I am just getting back to knitting and enjoyed sitting down today with you both! Life does throw us some curve balls, but God is our refuge! Praying for quick healing for you❤
Your Monday sweater looks so cozy - and is such a beautiful colour!
Diana, first of all I will be praying your upcoming surgery is a success and that your health is restored (and no more infections or complications). I love your podcast. Kaity, the Storm sweater is beautiful and I hope you will make it. It's basically a gansy sweater and I love them and the different textures created by the knits and purls.
Diana, continued prayers for health and complete healing. Praying for guidance and wisdom for your doctors, praying that you would be enveloped in love and comfort from above. 💕
I send all the well wishes to you diana so you will be okay and a speedy recovery! I do love all your proyects and how lovely they look. Health is what matters the most 💓
Wishing you well…..the ambassadors of grace and good will!❤
Prayers and well wishes for your surgery and recovery. Love the podcast. God bless both of you.
Another wonderful video. Thank you both so much!! I’m praying for you Diana, for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plans with no lingering side effects and zero infection!! God is able to do these things and more! I am making the Gullane Top by Ysolda - a brand new pattern and it is a wonderful knit!! My last summer knit but I am in Texas and our summer can last thru November 😂 y’all take care!!
Covering you and yours in prayer 🙏 ❤ look forward to seeing you both again soon take care! 😊 Happy knitting 🧶
Diana, continuing to lift you and your whole family up in prayer. Trusting someone to make decisions on your behalf isn't easy, but our job is to ask the LORD to use anyone He chooses, and thus we can sleep at night knowing He is in control. I work in a hospital, and many times I ask God for something easier on my body, but He reminded me just this week, we go through all kinds of trials, not for suffering's sake, but to be placed in a position for others to see His light in us. Like the broken pottery lamps of Gideon❤

Diane, you are in my thoughts and prayers 🙏🥰 I so enjoy this podcast, tips and tricks ♥️
Diana may God guide your doctors in your healthcare plan and continue to bless you. Always love watching the two of you! Finished one Follow Your Path socks by TheCrazySockLady and working on a plain ribbed pair for my hubby which I need to finish by deer hunting season!
Thank you for such a lovely podcast! Your knits are beautiful. I adore the little sweater and vest you are making for your grandsons, Diana. Thank you, too, for your sharing. I definitely send you both prayers as you deal with these health issues. May you maintain your calmness and trust in God and the doctors! (I just finished a Seashore Stroll sweater, and now I am working on slippers for my family for Christmas and Paper Daisy's MKAL for myself.)
I like the new opening; very nice
Hi Dianna and Katie, I’ have enjoyed watching your podcast! I’m a new knitter as of August 5 of this year. I’m keeping a simple journal of my progress. So far I can cast on, knit, purl, and cast off. My first project is going to be fingerless gloves that I can where to keep my wrist warm. I will be starting those soon. I really appreciate when y’all show a picture of the pattern you’re knitting because I’m so new I don’t know many of them. Dianna I will definitely be praying for you. God is faithful in his care for us. Thank you both sharing you knitting and life journeys with us. ❤
Love, Hugs and Prayers sent your way❤️💞🙏🙏🫶🏻🫶🏻
Thank you ladies for your great podcast. I love seeing all your knits and your yarns. I’m finishing my Salty Air Tee and have some other WIPs but I also want to cast on all the things. 😅 Diana I will be praying for your full recovery. ❤ Rachel S.
God Bless you, I will keep you in my prayers.
A rananculus knit along might be just what I didn’t know I needed! I didn’t have plans to make one until I started this video and suddenly I have big plans 😂 I’m also thinking of making a storm sweater this winter, Kaity! Praying for you and the doctors Diana ❤
I love the tin can knits app. It tells me only the direction needed for my pattern!
Hello again from MN. Diana, don't worry about responding to our comments, especially with what you have on your plate. SOOO thankful you are getting the help you need and praying for healing from the Healer. I just finished a granny square cardigan and love it. Made from wool scraps from our sheep, a very rustic wool which is not in most knitters' experience since it seems they gravitate toward soft, soft. But I need hard wearing, totally nonpilling stuff and hey, when I wear it I know it is from "Marcie" or "Nala" and so on. Also working on way too many other projects! Bless you both for these inspiring podcasts.

Trudy, thank you so much for our kind words and prayers. What a blessing to have your own sheep. I know it has to be a ton of work but what a joy to “grow” your own fiber! ❤Diana
Thank you for the lovely episode! I’m so sorry about your health issues Diana and hope you are feeling better soon
Sending prayers up for you Diana. Always lovely to join you in watching your podcast.
Hello Ladies Love your New Intro it’s Great! Beautiful projects as Always… I have a couple of knits on the needles, the Mackworth by Andrea Mowry which I’m thinking of changing into a Sleeveless Top and the Ankers Cardigan by Petiteknit in 4ply hand dyed sock yarn from stash. Take Care Diana Rest Up before your next Surgery, hope everything settles down for You health wise after that. ❤❤
Praying for you Diana. I was a home health nurse for many years, teaching many patients to administer IVs to themselves. However, when my own husband was the patient needing that care, it was so hard to do for me. Not the technical part, but the emotional part. Isn’t that crazy? I love your podcast. Thank you for sharing your knitting lives with us.

Continued prayers!
Prayers to you.... Love you sweaters and this video, so much. I'm knitting faux fur bucket hats and giving them away to family and coffee shop workers, etc. And, crocheting a sweater by Toni Lipsom, plus knitting some fingerless gloves. Want to do the ranunculus sweater when it starts. I did order the pattern... anxious to do that. love, hugs, prayers.
I started the felix cardigan and its really fast and I love the way its turning out
I bought cording at Joann’s for pony beads, it works for me instead of the cords. I cut different lengths for the sleeves and for the body.
As far as socks go, my knitting teacher (who is an amazing knitter from Finland and very expert) says that it’s best to measure length, not count rows, because you might vary your gauge enough that doing the same number of rows will result in different lengths. I knit for the number of inches equalling the shoe size less 1/2”, then do the toe. So, for size 7/12 shoe, knit the foot 7”. Alternatively, if you or the person you’re knitting for can try the sock on, knit the foot to the base of the big toe, then start the toe. Hope this helps, it always works for my socks.

I look forward to you videos. I seem to always add a sweater pattern to my Ravelry favourites. I'm in for a heavier weight Ranunculus. I have worsted wt Cascade 220 in my stash that will work. Good thoughts heading your way Diana.

Hello from NM. So glad to catch this again.
It’s so important to take care of yourself. I’ve had a picc line and while it was intense to have it inserted, it was a blessing because my veins were fried and it is now an ongoing trauma to me to do anything intravenously in my arms. Hugs and prayers for patience to heal.
Happy Sunday, from Orange County, California!
You might be interested in a KZread by Cynthia by Yarniversity by River City Yarns on how to wrap a center pull ball of yarn. With a little practice it works great.
Fun podcast! Sorry about the new surgery. Will be in prayer for you. I went to a craft store and picked up a necklace cord that I use to put my knitting on. It was like 50 yards for $1.99. It works great and a money saver. Have a great week.
I hope your surgery goes well: will keep you in my prayers. Love 'It Is a Sarah' podcast and spend time with Kelly & Noelle every Tuesday. Love your knitting: I am currently knitting the Salty Days Weater by Veronika Lindberg, also a beautiful designer.
So glad to hear that you are on the mend. :)
Had such a wonderful knitting time together with you this morning. Knitting on a Season's greetings hat from herbgarden knitwear that I am doing for my herbgarden knitalong that I am hosting on my channel. I am also knitting on the Poise sweater from herbgarden and I love it! Keeping you in my prayers, Diana. God bless you and your family. Love from Anne
Diana, I finally got my Ranunculus almost finished and it fits. Thanks for all the details and inspiration.
Hi Ladies… Julie of the Knitty Kats tuning in. Just love you two!

Hello from Texas
Have you tried 2 at a time socks to prevent 2nd sock syndrome? It's a life saver!!
Hi ladies, as the worst of wintery weather down here in Australia is over and there is more daylight, I have returned to a fine lace shawl by Nim Teasdale called The Peacock's Tale, using merino silk blend slow colour change yarn from my favourite Aussie dyer, but the patience required is for the placing of the glass beads in 2 out of every 12 rows with a 1mm crochet hook. Just placed an order for 40 gms of beads (I think I have already used 35 grams of beads so far), as my final repeat will have 129 beads in row 5 of the chart, and my cast off will be about 530 stitches, using a 874 yard / 100 gram cake of laceweight, lets see if I decide to use up most of the cake, or chicken out and finish with yarn to spare. In the next month or so I will be casting on the Salty Air Tee.❤❤

I’m interested in the link to the type of hollow cord you’ve found that works best if you can find it.
Hope you’ll be getting better soon. It’s a bummer to have a second operation, but I know you’re sailing through this obstacle. I love your attitude and this will help you a lot. Sending healing thoughts and prayers from Germany. You asked what we are knitting on: I just completed a testknit for Rebecca clow, the Leigh cardigan and am currently working on another testknit, a kimono style cardigan in linen stitch. It’s going to be beautiful, but it’s Labour of love. I started my Christmas gift knitting, this year all my friends will be given a washcloth together with s handmade (not by me) soap. And naturally there are always socks on my needles, I found this group on FB , they are knitting green socks for s hospital for women suffering from cancer, so this is what I’m knitting on as well. You might say I’m not a real monogamous knitter 😂

I committed to making a gansey sweater (similar to the Storm sweater) for my husband on US Size 2, bottom up. Now that I'm approaching the shoulders, it doesn't fit him - too tight across the chest. It's in time out, as you might imagine. I feel your pain.

I haven't steam blocked the sweater - good call! I'll try that before frogging. I did wet block the swatch before choosing the needles, but now I can't remember what happened before and after blocking - -it was a long time ago and my notes aren't as thorough from back then.

Oh I can’t believe how similar I am to you both at the moment. 😊 I’m with Katie, I really DO NOT want to knit a sweater on anything less than a 4mm needle however needs must! After 2 failed (huge fitting) cardigans I did the ‘really fits top down cardigan for all seasons” on revelry and I had to go to a 3.75mm and guess what? It fits! Yay! I am making my second one now.😂 however I am taking a break as I just got out of surgery on Friday and don’t have the headspace to knit as I am sleeping a lot due to my meds. I also started the Tolsta tee with you on instagram back in June was it? But my gauge was off and it was like your sweater Katie, -the positive ease was just too much for me (not being slim)🫤 so I am going to pull it out and everything I have learned with the cardigan I will put into practice to re knit Tolsta in spring next year. I would love to do the ranunculus with you both but think I need to walk before I run 🤣🤣🤣 I also love the ‘it’s a Sarah ‘ podcast and fully intend doing a knitting journal as soon as I can find the ‘perfect’ book 🤭 yes I know any book should do 🫣 Will send a prayer up for you Diana x
