EP-133 KO II - Some Workflow Tips to Help You Get Full Tracks Out of It

A couple of workflow modifications I've come up with to help get complete tracks out of the EP-133.
As I mentioned in my 2 Month Review video, I had a couple of things I've started doing to help me better enjoy this little sampler. Hoping that TE finds a way to implement some changes that will improve the workflow but in the meantime, this might help you.
If you want to see the review I did, that video is here:
• The EP-133 KO II - Aft...
If you want to hear the full track I'm using for reference, that video is here:

If you want to support me in any way, maybe pick up one of my albums:

That is an interesting way of looking at it, and like your D&B song. I am a bit confused by his machine. I am trying to figure out a workflow for doing live, improvisational DAWless gigs. Any tips? Your idea gives me the idea of just creating a bunch of scenes that would be basics parts I then kind of jump back and forth on, and jam (using the EP-133 and maybe a small synth). Maybe that could work.

I’ve stopped working with the KO II due to the lack of a backup feature. The last update fried 2 of my songs, so don’t feel like wasting further time. TE did a great job with a half finished product imo. Good video.

Have you tried doing all (A, B, C, D) patterns for you song in scene 01, then 1. select the 4 ABCD patterns for the intro 2. commit to the next scene 3. go back to scene 1 4. repeat steps 1-3 for chorus, verse, etc.

You can reorder patterns instead. Once you're finish making your scenes, every scene has 4 patterns example, scn001=a01+b01+c01+d01 scn002=a02...and so on... lets say your intro is scn04=a04+c04, for example you can go later back to scn001 and press the group key and convert scn001=a04+c04.

This is great stuff! My work around was to use a single scene and pattern, which I'm guessing would work up to the max of 99 bars which is enough for most compositions. It would have the advantage of playing the whole song through by itself but then it's what you said, you would have to plan out everything ahead of time. Your solution orders the scenes so at least the changes are consecutive, which makes things easier for live playing or mixing down to another machine, even as separate tracks.

Yep, exactly. Initially I was trying to skip around from like scene 9 back to scene 1 and it was doable but way to fiddly and error prone for my liking. I definitely would not feel confident doing that in a live situation. Having the changes at least back to back makes that smoother for me. Fingers still crossed that they give us a scene chaining option.

first of all, that D+B sound is amazing, did you use all built in samples/sounds? secondly, this video convinced me I need one of these. one thing I was wondering, can you set up individual scenes to be in different keys, and even modes? for instance, modulate from A Dorian to D Mixolydian, within the same project. thanks!

Hey there. Thanks a lot. I did not use any built in samples for this track. I tend to do best when I seek my samples specifically for the project and with a sound in mind. Anyways, I am not 100% sure about being able to use different scales on different scenes but I believe you can. The reason I say that is I'm always sampling melodic sounds for their timbre but they can often be out of key with the track so I'm always trying different keys and scales to make that new sample work with the composition and I do that all the time so I *believe* that the scale is set as a parameter to the sample and could thus be different between different scenes and sounds. I know that when I choose a new scale, it doesn't change the note content of the other sounds so they seem to be independently programmable. Thanks again for watching.

Each group can send to the fx not to a different fx...they are send fx and work in that way, just like in a conventional mixer. The problem is that you can only have 1 send fx, like if an analog mixer has only one aux output for 1 send fx that all channels can send to, or not, but you don't have 4 inserts, just this one send effect...would be dope to have more fx. The other fx you can use as inserts, I mean, the filters, the pitch thing, the tape thing etc, and you can use them simultaneously on a whole group by using the fader. Hope this makes any sense
