    This may be a really stupid question. But maybe weigh in on how legit or how much of a solution do you think it is. I’m trying to figure who this is for.. is it for the guy with serious equipment looking for a change.. I thought about buying it for my son to get him started… is it a novelty item? Is it a true SP404 competitor but will it hold up long term… I mean the shit looks fun I just keep asking myself why and why not it’s $299

    Thanks for uploading these insightful EP-133 videos. How about showing MIDI in the other direction. I'm controlling my EP-133 from my hardware sequencer, but I can't figure out how to set the global MIDI receive channel on the EP-133. It defaults to OMNI MIDI IN, receiving all channels all the time.

    OK, I am still waiting for my EP-133 (it was supposed to arrive today), but I have been recording many Pocket Operator tracks into a DAW, and I honestly think you don't need to make the effort to MIDI-sync it. Just make sure the DAW-tempo matches the one on the KO II exactly, and record it without any sync. After that, just go to clip view, find the first beat, right-click and select 'Set 1.1.1 here'. Et voila. The tempo is stable enough to record at least 1-2 minutes without having to correct anything. (pro tip: if the chosen group doesn't have a sound exactly on the 1, just put an extra bar in front of it that does start with a short-attack sound on the 1). That saves connecting a few wires, and you don't need an audio-interface with MIDI.

    Also if you have a drum sequence instead of a drum sample and want to record the drums separately go to "Sound" menu, lower the volume (AMP) of every pad except the one you want to record. For example if you're recording the kick drum you can lower the volume of every other pad so you can just record the kick, do this with every element in different channels to get a proper drum recording. This also works as a "pad mute", instead of having to mute whole groups. If you have 3 synths sequenced in group C you can just lower the volume of the sequenced pads and then bring them in with this trick.

    1/8” to 1/4” into interface. Your interface uses a digital cable like usb or FireWire. Interface is an analog to digital converter - A/D so analog wires for audio device in and digital wires for digital out. It seems like you can also just use USB c for both audio and midi and possibly bypass the interface altogether.

Preferences set to ssl2t as audio input and output device. Track and sync both selected under link tempo midi. EXT activated showing a blinking light. I don’t know if midi is a different channel on the SSL2+ but it only has two channels showing in ableton.

II to work as a midi device with clock and transport.". So can one not just plug it in via USB to achieve the sync you're describing in this video? Sorry if this doesn't make sense... New to hardware and all these connections/methods.

    Tracking out instrument by instrument. To “export a project” Teenage Engineering would need to create software that interfaces with their hardware. At this point they are not a software company so you have to record your tracks as analog audio files. This video is just about using midi to sync your machine to your software so it all lines up timing wise as you go track by track. If you like how your track sounds coming straight out of the box you may not want to use midi. This is so you can further mix your various layers inside your software to complete what you started on your KO hardware.

    Great tutorial but you dont need to use the midi ports, your not transferring midi data other than bpm, just use the output channel and go 3.5 trs to 1/4 inch, no adapter. The midi ins and outs are meant for using with synths and to control other instruments.

  • @marsjptr

    @marsjptr

    4 ай бұрын

    You’re midi syncing so each track lines up to the same start point of your session as you go through your various tracks / layers / instruments of your song. To your point, sending BPM but also allowing your computer to start the track synced up to zero as opposed to starting both machines by hand and having to use two hands inevitably leaving your two machines out of sync and timing off.

    Can anyone help me out? I’m trying to use this method to record into session view instead of arrangement. The reason i want to do this is to have every clip be a beat i can trigger and more easily mix into a beat tape. I got everything synced up correctly. On my macbook i run the ep-133 directly over usb-c to usb-c and have it controlling the midi sync. For some reason when i have an armed track in session view it defaults to trying to record into the arrangement view. I have to wait for my loop on the ep-133 to go all the way around and then manually trigger a clip on the session view. It still syncs up correctly but its just annoying to have to wait for the loop to go around. Especially if im tracking out an entire song. The only workaround i can think of is to make the ep-133 the midi slave to ableton but then it will get out of sync if i do any fx that switch up the timing like the tape slow/stop.

    Hi! The process is the same for Logic Pro? How to create a track for each ko 2 group ? I use Logic Pro and I searched 2 days a way but no infos anywhere .... I would like to record my sounds with Logic Pro,...

    Make a new track for each layer and record as you go. Once you’ve MIDI synced the machine in Logic all tracks should line up and begin recording from 0:00.

    @@boarques you could also use the usb-c from the KO to transfer MIDI data. You need an audio interface although some laptops you can plug audio straight in, I think mostly older ones.

    hi Paula, thank you for contacting us! from your description it seems like you are trying to record the different groups on separate tracks via usb: unfortunately, the KO II is not equipped with usb audio! to record it, you would need to use the line output, and connect it to an audio interface (or directly to your computer, if it has a line input). if you'd like to record the groups separately, you would need to record one group per time, and mute the others! to mute a group, hold down the group key and move the fader all the way down! don't hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions! meanwhile, have a nice day. kindly, teenage engineering support

    My fader didn’t work out the box. The box puts pressure on the fader. It’s a very tight fit. Next PO will probably have a recessed fader or be smaller or a bigger box.
