Ep. 13 The French Mansion We Bought!
The conclusion to our cliffhanging previous episode (where we showed you five other contenders in our house hunt), this is the story of how we found 'the one'.

Jenny!!!!! Amazing vlog, once again. What a wonderful story and beautiful collection or photos, facts and music. Your commentary is brilliant. It’s easy to see why people in the neighbourhood and in the village welcomed you and have become your friends. Take care. X

I am amazed that you and your husband made a life changing decision but had no regrets for that change. I...and my late husband did the same thing when we moved from New England..US to the middle of the US...1200 miles to start a new life. From a modern house to a house built in the 1850's. Afte almost 50 years....I'm still happy about that decision. I wish you both all the happiness and success. Cheers!

Oh to have a metal detector on your property with that history, yum? Can’t wait to see inside that tower at the entrance. Somewhere in time and place there must be a painting of the original château to be discovered.

Good afternoon Jenny, I feel quite sad at the thought that the previous chateaux had been destroyed by fire!! France is so loaded with History, hence the reason why I am so in love with the Country! There seem to be mixed feelings in our family regarding France, my son says they are pompous and arrogant, my husband just jokes as he is Scottish. My Dad's ancestors came from a part very north in Germany and very close to the Northern French border. They left because of the persecutions and came to South Africa many generations ago. I always thought I am from French ancestry but no, my daughter visited the "Taal Museum" in the Cape and there it was in black and white, Kloten, and my maiden name being Cloete. I hold British Citizenship through ancestry, on my mother's family, Grandpa and Great Grandpa who were British, English, Great Grandpa was a Magistrate in the London area so, that is that for me. We all have great laughs when I get started with our family history, but of course I am hamming it on, why not you only live once and make the moment worthwhile :) There is so much potential at your Mansion, the gorgeous archways, especially at the gate, it nearly took my breath away. All I can say is that I hope you will all be so happy with you acquiring the property of your dreams. I wanted to emigrate to France many years ago when the kids were still very young, but always thought I would never be able to master the French language. Another one of my smart history remarks were, oh a Frenchman can talk to me for hours, I would have no clue what he is talking about, I would just listen to his beautiful musical language. I am a bit of a dreamer, but life is a reality and I must also move on. I enjoyed listening to your story regarding the acquirement of your "Forever" home, and now it will be time to start working to get the income rolling. Oh, the previous mention of the museum is situated in Paarl, a region in the Cape Province. Enjoy a great evening, happy days. Kind regards, Elize.
Love how you tell your story. It is true how you know and have a feeling about a house. I know it will be beautiful and look forward to seeing the progress. Thanks so much for sharing your journey with us.

Hi Rochelle! Thank you so much. I'm so glad you are enjoying our episodes! There is no need to feel sorry for my husband however. Swedish Trolls are much happier being elusive than in the limelight. But who knows, maybe one day I can tempt him to come out from hiding and in front of the camera...
This is magical, Jenny. I look forward to seeing a wonderful transformation of your family's new home, outbuildings and grounds. A bonus is learning about the village and welcoming residents. I was very interested in the process of choosing the location of your French mansion, including consideration of a sunny micro climate and long daylight hours in the summer. An introduction to a beautiful region of France I've not visited. Your previous video gave an interesting look at six properties you considered. Fascinating to see the drone footage, maps and learn about the history.

Telephone wires! I am sold. Still believe the grid (grounded wires) is still the best.
You are a wonderful story teller. I watch several KZread channels centered around chateau restoration, and one I unsubscribed because the owner is incapable or drawing in via her story. I watched the previous video you made, and was hooked. I am not a Francophile, I don’t even speak the language, but I love restoration of the old and unloved. I’m sure it won’t be long and others who love the restoration of chateaus will find your channel. Success in your journey, and thanks for sharing. Bonne chance! (Looked it up).
