lordkandar They don’t speak ill of each other. Both of them have chalked it up to creative differences and said that they still get along as friends perfectly well, but I think people assume they’re on bad terms because Freddie and Brandon seem to have not interacted or done anything with one another in the many years since they split.

Freddie is a great podcast guest. He knows the different between a podcast and an interview. When they ask a question, he will answer it, then throw it back. He asks questions, this is a proper conversation. You can really tell these guys go way back.

I remember watching Freddiew and Corridor Digital videos in highschool thinking Damn those look nice. Which made me want to learn about VFX, which made me go to film school and now so many years later I recently got my first Lead Compositor job working at a major VFX studio on Hollywood blockbusters. All because some Asian guy and two dudes from Minnesota liked guns. It's great to hear you guys talk together like this, you were and still are my idols.

When talking about Corridor Videos, it's the Skyrim one that first comes into mind. And when talking about the FreddieW character, it's him from the Katamari and the Jedi A-holes videos. I am old in the internet.
Node videos when Freddie was still playing with Brandon, Sam, and Niko are some of my favorite videos on the whole website. Love you guys.
Also, you mention clockblockers, arguably the one short you did that really-really got me into corridor content. Can we get a sequel now so many years later with all the new stuff you've learned and skills attained?! would be epic!
Its so weird watching this and thinking about how long ive been watching and what has changed. Ive been watching since the og freddiew days when the rocket jump video came out was my first. That was so many years ago, you guys have changed so much over the years. I couldnt stop watching this keep it up all three of you guys freddie your the best ill watch everything you put out and same to you sam and niko love you guys
Man Freddie hijacked the podcast in the best way, he asked more questions than Sam and Niko, I love it!
OK, after last week we really need to get the perfect guest, the tipiest of the topiest, the ultimate meme lord... FREDDIE!

VGHS was amazing! Just rewatched it and it holds up. Love that show
For the record, I loved VGHS. It was fantastic, and I loved every second of it.
As a longtime Corridor/FreddieW/Node fan, this podcast was so nostalgic for me. Thank you guys.

VGHS was awesome. I shared that serious with everyone it was something that represented me and a lot of things that I truly liked it understood.
when Freddie said that youtube has solidified as a personality cult medium it really struck a nerve with me. i've sort of grown up with youtube and i guess thats why, but thats also why i feel that as of late theres no content on youtube, like the last year or two.

Any long form content that takes more than double the time to edit than air is not economically viable. They adjusted the pay outs a few times and the only viable content is either cultural phenomenons like hot ones or talking heads or something kids like.
@ChronicalV

im late but freddie really puts into words and articulate a lot of things I've been thinking about, especially how the landscape of youtube has changed so much in a way to a consumable, "fast-food"-esque production line. Quality content takes longer to make, and the payout is just not enough for it to be sustainable unfortunately, because the majority of youtube's audience (going by how content is catered for) is younger teens/kids. I'm just barely on the edge of that audience and millenials (who absolutely hate the former), and so I can kinda see both sides of the coin here. A lot of the content I watch is reviews, animations, vfx videos, documentaries, video essays, that kinda stuff. And just a trip through my favourites over the last couple years (when I was transitioning from the young teen to young adult) can tell you how my preferences have changed from comedy skits and spontaneous stream highlight moments to worked content that takes time to produce. I moved out of the primary audience by growing up a little, and I can see exactly what they mean now. Maybe there could be a way for people to educate appreciation of arts/craftsmanship (and thats not limited to literal "arts" and creative stuff, but other things too), but that's just wishful thinking
You can tell how openly passionate Freddie is about his works and what he used to make. I love this dude and his legacy.
THANK YOU FREDDIE! Shaw did kill Han and now he’s friends with everyone?? Fast and Furious breaks the laws of physics on a regular basis but the one thing that was most unbelievable was Shaw becoming friends with everyone.
Freddie has such an eloquent structure to his thoughts. He ties in all the small details and keeps them connected to the topic, while connecting several topics cohesively. So much good information from these podcasts 🧠🤯
i remember the old days of KZread, freddie, brandon and then you guys, feels like ages ago. KZread is so different now, the content is so different, and the youtubers themselves are freakin' famous! Good and bad at the same time, I guess. Nice seeing you guys together again.
@lordkandar
5 жыл бұрын
KZread personalities are famous in a bubble. Other than one or two people, we'd probably have a different list of people that we'd see as famous.
I think the biggest thing that youtube can't shake is that the 4th Wall is either very thin or completely non-existent. Even Corridor's main videos, which usually don't break it; there's still a sense of "Look at this cool video we made" because youtube just has that interpersonal air about it. It's almost like if you were close friends with Steven Spielberg and he personally showed you a short video he just made.
"I don't bet on horses. I ride them." absolutely killed me. Hahaha. That's such a good line. Also the whole "Tac2cool Reloads" plot sounds amazing. xD
I don’t know if it’s because I grew up watching him but listening to Freddie W talk is like listening to an old friend. It’s just very familiar, very cozy almost.
Idk if its just me, but seeing Sam like lowkey tired and exhausted is pretty sad. Hard working and family man. Big up

On the point of mods in video games. Two of my most fondest memories of Minecraft were Hunger Games online games, and Civilization online mod. Imagine Playing CIV, except you are the worker, the bowman and the ruler of the CIV, and all of the rest of the workers and bowmen in your CIV were other players you met in the game. Holy shit that was so fun on a server that hosted more than 500 players at a time. Our CIV had more than 30 active players on it, who all talked on Teamspeak. The game lasted for about two months, and our CIV ended up concurring the entire server. Good times, good times. I would definitely play this again if the servers were still up, or if someone made an actual game based on this idea, similar to what Pubg is to Arma.

Joonas Halpin dude Hunger Games online were the shit. Me and my buddy played hours of this. Wayy before pubg or any of that 😂
that was a good one. Really liked the end
The very first king of the hill game mode that I played was in Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising way back in the day. It was very similar to the way that Arma's version plays in the sense that you would use vehicles to get to the combat zone.
this has been an awesome pod
Freddie is super charismatic, damn
U 3 n Brandon are the reason i got into vfx
Freddie! VGHS would be AMAZING! Not perfect, of course, but it was such a fun experience and so cool to see so much of what we wanted out of life!
Your vids are epic and Corridor is my fave channel
That gave me a laugh. Awesome stuff! ;D
Man seeing these guys talk about the old days reminds me of GakAttack. Dang I miss that guy.
I feel what Sam was saying about not shooting people in multiplayer shooters. It seems weird to me that shooting someone is usually more valued than avoiding contact. I was sad to discover the "run-through" state in Tarkov. The only game I've played where explicitly not engaging the enemy can be beneficial is in Squad where flag captures are immensely more important than kills. Back in Arma's Battle Royale, most of my matches were me avoiding the enemy and judging the terrain to remain undetected within each circle, only engaging other players when I absolutely had to.
Another great interview and very interesting! At about an hour the conversation gets to career first with why no VGHS season 4 (quick shoutout VGHS was awesome and was a great exploration of narrative storytelling and you guys did great with it Freddie) and then what challenges he faces now. He talks at length about context and how his career could be different. Not sure if this counts for much as I am a nobody, but you guys are all amazing. You are amazing filmmakers. You have made interesting, entertaining, and in some cases profound content. You are proven entities and any person would be lucky to have you guys directing their movies or shows.
VGHS is the only series I watched like 4 times. I think often independent webseries are great, but I agree that most of the times nobody cares.
Yo! Have you ever thought about having these podcasts in a public setting of sorts? Kinda like a talkshow or something? Like, have a live audience listen to you guys chat with each other and even maybe a Q&A session? Even if you don't have a huge crowd, you're still satisfying the goal of having a wholesome podcast. If you pull this off, just set a date and location, and fans closeby can drop by and stuff. I'd love to see that. :D

Once the podcast has proven successful and sustainable, which we're quite optimistic about with how it's going in the first few months so far, then a Live Cast would definitely be fun! But that's a whole other beast. I grew up in theatre and have worked live events professionally for years and a lot more goes into it for a polished product. Still, it's not outside the realm of possibility for the future. -Jarrett

Interesting. Great to see Freddy W be on here! Also, not even one dislike.
I miss you Freddie!!
Freddie is so on point about the middle ground of Hollywood nd how it's either 9 figure big-budget franchises, or barely 7 figure low budget stuff. Without that midle ground where studios were willing to take chances and give these great artists the ability to produce their ideas, there'd be no Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Terminator, Predator, Taxi Driver, Fight Club, and so on. And now with Disney buying up all these properties so that can give all these old franchises THEIR take on it (safe/no risk taking, along with the original tone being lost) is going to be the death of Hollywood IMO.
Today is the first day that I watch the podcast mainly because of Freddy. I actually prefer the Corridor Crew videos over their actual content. But I just watched the first episode of Rush and man that was wild!!! I probably should support them on Patreon. So amazing what you guys can do!

58:33 The first King of the Hill game type was probably a playground in 1800s: I first played it IRL with my friends on top of the snow pile.
Clockblockers rocked and stands the test of time
King of the Hill was a game mode in Marathon 2: Durandal in 1995. I don't know if it's the earliest appearance of KotH, but it's the earliest that I'm aware of.

For Tactoocool Reloads, start in an office area and have Jake walk by Clint and reprimand him for playing games while on the job, and as that happens in the back ground introduce Freddie and Niko. They start fighting, so on and so forth, and then they are looking for other things to reload when Clint yells out, "No! No! Reload! Reload! Why can't I reload!?" as he's panicking and mashing his keyboard. The R button gets flung off the keyboard and hits Freddie in the head. Freddie and Niko turn, look at the button, look at each other, then they both dash for the R button on the ground, fighting as they make their way to Clint's key board, and then they topple into Clint. Freddie and Clint look at each other. A glare of recognition passes between them, then they see that Niko has the R key and is about to put it back on the keyboard. Clint and Freddie turn back, shake hands, and then attack Niko together. Eventually the R key flies away and hits Jake, who is coming back. They all tackle him. Shenanigans ensue.
This reminds me of the rocket jump podcast days when Niko and Same were on freddie's podcast. The circle of life.
