Can I just say that, as an engineer I think your idea of putting a ribbon or even eye cord (though that might be bulky now that it’s already knit) in the back to bear the load is a brilliant idea and will definitely work. Just be careful not to make the ribbon ends at either side the new stress points.

So nice to see some Aussie girls doing a knitting podcast. I'm a Melbourne girl but live in Texas now. I would really miss all the access I have to the US Yarn market if I had to move back to Australia! I'm also lucky enough to be going to Rhinebeck Sheep and Wool this October... But.... I'll always miss Australia.

I'm so glad your channel was recommended to me - instantly felt at home with your knit and yarn chat 💖🧶☕. Congratulations on passing your exam Paige🎉 . One of my sons has been sweating on his first semester medicine results (he passed, yay). I keep recommending knitting to him to help relax but he's seen what yarn addiction can do to families and isn't convinced😄. In May we helped another son to move from the Sunshine Coast to Melbourne and I got to enjoy the novelty of wearing my hand knits for longer than thirty minutes ❄. While in Melbourne I got to fan girl at Little Woolie Makes in Hastings, which may have been my motivation for driving to Melbourne and back- don't tell my son🤫.

I just came across your channel yesterday and I just wanted to say that I absolutely love it here. Totally feels like we are having a chat! And it is kinda fueling my current obession with knitting haha! I'm a beginner knitter (however, long time crocheter), but seeing all the beautiful knits that you two make is giving me some confidence to try more complicated patterns. I really want to make a vest as I feel like it would be appropriate for Brisbane "winters" and I had been intimidated by the suggestion to hold two yarns together, but you two do that for so many of your knits that I'm feeling like maybe I'm overthinking it?!

Simple structural hack to prevent/ minimise garment stretch is to add a crochet chain along whatever ‘seam’ line on the inside of the garment - adds minimal bulk, no extra resources needed (eg elastic, ribbon), simple, quick

The ribbon/elastic across the shoulders is a good idea! If you look at a lot of stretch garments (store bought t-shirts for example) it will be sewn into the seam as part of the normal construction. Often it's that clear swimwear/chlorine resistant elastic, I've also seen people use the polyester ribbon that comes on swing tags from fancy clothing brands (not sure if this made any sense).

I had ribbons across the back shoulder all the time, especially with cardigans. Sew one strip of ribbon from one side, all the way to the other side then, the back neckline won’t stretch either

I love your yarn purchases! 🤩 I live in Norway and Garntopia is my go-to online yarnshop. I love Paige’s unicorn yarns. How about knitting a plain raglan sweater like KFO’s It’s not a sweatshirt in this yarn? This design will make the yarn shine and the sweater would be so cool! 🦄 Btw I used to head up Dalegarn and we published all the Norwegian ski sweaters. They were made in Heilo, which has since been discontinued. 😢 Peer Gynt is its equivalent with the same gauge, only by a competing yarn manufacturer. 😊 Dalegarn has dwindled these past few years while Sandnesgarn has boomed. 🎉

Thanks for sharing your knowledge! I have a couple sweater’s worth of stashed Heilo from my first knitting life, 25-30 years ago. So nice to know it could sub for Peer Gynt. Love the Heilo. Has been interesting too that Dalegarn faded away and Sandnes is so strong. Dalegarn was the best for patterns and yarn. I also have a sweater’s worth of Rauma 3-tråds strikkegarn. I don’t think that is made any more.

The ribbon idea is spot on. You see a lot of merino knitwear in shops (at least Glassons does this) who use a clear plastic tape to reinforce the shoulders of their tops. If you want to keep it all natural, have a look at the fabric shops for silk remnants and use the selvedges for reinforcement

You could do a crochet chain along the neck/shoulders of your sweater. Roxanne Richardson has a helpful tutorial. I did this on a raglan cardigan of mine last week, even though I can't actually crochet. But it was really easy and the cardigan doesn't seem to sag. Love your episodes! I'm now going back and catching up on al the old ones I haven't seen yet.

Love the sweaters. To keep the neck from stretching out, you may want to limit how big around it is at the bottom of the ribbing (where the sweater body starts). There are different types of elastic - maybe some firm elastic will make it stretchy enough to go over your head, but will allow it to spring back and limit the stretch once it is on you.

Sarah, thcolor of the Clay sweater is beautiful on you. I have to say the the ideas of the tape or I-chord to help to maint a in the fit so that the weight does not stretch out the neck, are very intriguing. As I live in the states it is very strange to so clearly see the difference in seasons between hemispheres. It is about the equivalent of 30 C here today. Too warm for a sweater here.

@@twopurlsinapod you won't be disappointed! And she has more colourways that she dyes from time to time & beautiful mohair and alpaca silk! And it's from non mulesed sheep which is important too! Have fun!

Ribbon should work, but what about just a crochet chain?

I think that should also work, and will probably be easier so will try that first. Thanks 🥰

Sarah, you made Paige’s project bag in mustard and yours in blue… can you remind me the pattern? I went back through show notes but couldn’t find it (though I know you have linked it before). You’ve inspired me to make one of my own!! 💙from Colorado!

love all the yarns you bought, especially the wandering flock skeins. i had not heard of garntopia before you mentioned it last episode i think, and now i am extremely tempted to get some blown yarn for a jumper. i think one of you have used the sandnes garn poppy yarn in a previous episode. how does the snefnug feel compared to it? was tossing up between those or also the kos from sandnes which is a slightly different fibre composition but still a blown yarn.

Yeh they’re really similar and could probably be used interchangeably. Both glorious 🥰
