I think that form of interaction is more subtle than Isaac can readily grasp. But he did eventually perceive the crux of the matter, that the benefit to their relationship of letting Charly assist him outweighed the transitory reduction in efficiency.

Theory: Kaylons DO have emotions, but they exist in a way that they can't express or recognize the way humans can. Timmis (and later Isaac) wasn't really given emotions; he was given the ability to recognize and express his feelings.

In fairness, her always being destined to die gives writers a lot more freedom to develop her character. A character intended to last the duration of a long series can only develop in minor ways without making them unrecognizable and robbing them of the charm that made them interesting in the first place. Picard only develops slightly during the original seven seasons, and we love him for it. Worf only develops slightly in Next Gen and Deep Space Nine combined, and we love him for the combination of badass warrior and funny grouch that makes him.

This is why the Orville is a spiritual member of the Startrek family; it shows people being imperfect and flawed, but always working to be the best versions of themselves. I was gutted that she died but I think it was the right decision. We got a character who is angry because the Kaylon destroyed her chance of happiness and she (understandably and perhaps, justifiably) projected that onto Isaac. Burke goes on to save his life, apologizes for her behaviour while helping Isaac understand why she felt that way, and eventually is able to trust him. The line "we trust Isaac, we don't trust you" showed how much she had grown. For her to go on and sacrifice her life to stop the genocide of the Kaylon is another example of that and it led to massive consequences for the Kaylon.

This scene reminds me of something Charly later says to the Kaylon Primary: "We trust Isaac....we don't trust you!"

The line "we trust Isaac, we don't trust you" showed how much she had grown. @@wjrneo2 We will be most likely. There are a lot of factors that leads up to another season in a show. Popularity being one of them aside, how many loose unexplored ends are there in that season that need to be covered. There's Ed's child, the Mochlan and Krill alliance, and now capture of the Krill leader. If a show is VERY popular and gains enough revenue to hold another season, there will be another season. The Orville, is a very popular sci-fi show.

@@Kakashi713 oh, I agree that season 3 was replete with amazing stories that while appearing episodic actually contained multiple season spanning arcs, as well as threads like Gently Falling Rain that could end up being as important as Topa’s or Clair/Isaac’s. It’s just with no real words yet and all of the actors contracts up it will hard to get the Band back together while at the same time getting a studio to fund a show that exceeded $10M an episode.
This is possibly the most "Star Trek" scene in the whole run of the show. Burke is angry, which is a very human thing to be. But she is also enlightened enough to understand her feelings, process and analyze them for what they are, and then when she learns more SHE CHANGES HER MIND and apologizes to his face. That's the Roddenberry vision in a nutshell. That humans in the future will be better than us as we are right now.
Emotions are a spectrum. Reactions are binary.
What's this? The Bestest Evar girl on the show under goes personal growth and development as a character. What madness is this? You're making the rest of Hollywood look bad, Orville. They don't need help with that. Seriously, though, this was such a good scene.

yeah and what attracts are her actions, not just looks
Both Isaac and Charly are egghead and blunt. They'll deny they could've been friends, but they're certainly birds of a feather.
😢❤️❤️👍
Was the Orville. Before Star Trek TNG time line??
He was upset with her at first, and forgave her in the end, but moreso than anything he was most upset with himself. Regardless of what you may call emotion, Isaac truly does feel them.
so when are we getting the next season?
Now I'm going to go listen to Tim Minchin's song, The Fence.
wow cool
I'm only just noticing how, with she said "An entire race, can't be evil" that it's doubled meaning, with it being both Humans and Kaylons oversimplifying to just black and white thinking, good and evil, without the texture nuance Charly is pointing out.
@JoshSweetvale

If she doesn't want the Kaylons being genocidally prejudiced, she wouldn't want herself to be either. Confronting hypocrisy takes character. Not just the bravery of youth (or the apathy of age) but a willingness to weaken your own position.
He's alive
This single scene simply tells why The Orville is lightyears beyond Kurtzman Trek!

Spoiler warning: She really warmed up on me over the season. In the end she got a good death. As the currency of the Union is reputation, Charly without a doubt was one of the richest. She will be missed and remembered

The Orville show did a grave mistake and lost my intresset with a whole show about spiders taking over the ship. *shivers* It can rott in hell.

Isaac is a good man.
Her acting and line delivery are difficult to watch. It's almost... Shattnerian. But She's not Shattner. XD
Main man hit her with "No, you dumb.". Wow.
If I was on the orville and someone I cared for was killed by the kaylon, I wouldn't blame Isaac for any of it ,after all he was only doing what the other kaylons programmed him to do and it's not like he killed anyone himself, at least directly and I'm just glad he did the right thing in the end, whatever hand you had in the kaylon invasion, I've already forgive you because there's not alot to forgive and if there's anyone here to blame is your fellow kaylon.
Too Little, Too Late
I just realized, I dislike new "star trek" shows the same way I dislike new "law and order" shows. They focus too much on emotional scenes and character development instead of actual plot and story telling.
Why did she apologize? She wasn't part of the slave revolt scenes.
@ff3player

I think she is apologizing about her hatred of Kaylon to Isaac she had been wrong to judge him for the actions of his people as a whole and conceding that not all Kaylon were evil, apologizing for her earlier treatment of him. "I hate what your people did to me killing my love but I can no longer hate you for it."

Choosing and accepting kindness and respect is a simple way to achieve that - there will always be specific temporary scenarios where this is not the case, but sticking with it will generally generate loyalty and support for future situations. Dude, you can't have every scene trying to be Spaceballs, people lose interest. Providing character development invests people in the narrative and long-term interest in the lives of the crew with unexpected comedy moments. This was a silly show at first, but became a highly-intelligent and thought-provoking show with subtle comedy balancing it out.

1st season is a parody but a nice one. 2nd becomes a mix but still it`s rather a parody (with really nice plots) 3rd one is like a serious 90`s Trek with a great scenarios
Worst fuckin' character in the show.
She became really annoying I wasn’t sad to see her go honestly
@repealthepatriotact

She was supposed to be annoying so you could have animosity toward on her journey of acceptance of others she hated. Then redeem herself with her sacrifice. She was the perfect character to stimulate the emotions we feel as humans toward others we despise so we can understand that every flawed person has a powerful potential for good.
What a difficult thing for a woman is apologising to a man, even being a machine. What a lot of garbage before saying simply “I am sorry”. And then the man, the machine, offering the woman the compliment of letting her feel helpful, even after considering her help as substandard!
So weird that a show that is a parody of Star Trek is so much better written and acted. Star Trek is so stiff, poorly cast, and presumptuous.
This is a wonderful scene but it would have been better if he didn’t accept it and crushed her head after pushing her eyeballs in and then shouting “I raped her” to the whole ship, confusing everyone
worst. character. ever. bring back the cute girl. NOT moleface, lipstick girl.
