Ensemble Obsidienne - Como Somos Per Consello

Музыка

In the thirteenth century, King Alfonso X, el Sabio (the Wise) gathered together in his Cantigas de Santa Maria four hundred songs (cantigas). These mystical, non-liturgical pieces were sung at various festivities, sometimes - as we see in illuminated manuscripts - accompanied by dancing. Their form, verses with refrains, lends itself to various alternations: soloist-chorus, dialogue between texts and instruments, etc.
The Cantigas involve celebration, dancing, storytelling and tales of miracles. The language used is Gallego-Portuguese, the language of lyric poetry at that time.

A Meisterwerk of vision, and an excellent, and colourful interpretation of Medieval Music...Keep up the Good Work. The world of early music is full of treasures still largely unrealized, and appreciated by many people.... Robert Searle.

Normally with mediaeval music people just display an image from a manuscript. Thought I was seeing things when I noticed the figures moving! I love mediaeval music, and the music of Spain especially. Thanks for posting.

@clafey Absolutely true, not unlike the process here in Britain, but from the perspective of the 21stC it is the music which forms the mediaeval heritage of what we now call Spain........... even if they were different nations at the time. Although my family are from Andalusia, so their music was probably quite different. Either way, the medieval music of the Peninsular is beautiful.

Ive heard a lot of medieval music. This is the best rendition of Como Somos Per Consello I have ever heard. It's gorgeous in so many ways. Also, is it possible that I could get a picture of the dancers' garb? From a distance, the garb looks fantastic. Regards, Christian!
