My husband and I live in the Shasta area. We love McCloud; we don't fish but being there by the river is so spiritually rich with its amazing waters and pristine energies. Enough is Enough....

I know Craig and Curtis, and congratulate them on a wonderful piece of work. The McCloud is indeed unique and I can suggest one thing that would make it better. There could be more of it available to the public. Much of the beauty below the dam is very very closely held in the private hands of the very rich if I'm notmistaken.

Not to mention the bolibakka stretch being sold to the corrupt westlands water district who wants to raise shasta dam and destroy miles of river for capacity in the the lake that will most often not be actually filled... California is a history of take and take, especially southern california. Just sad to see how they have already destroyed all their socal water ways, and now they are destroying norcal, and other watersheds eastward that support the colorado river. I would love to explore the lower stretches of the mccloud before it is likely destroyed by the greed of the state and politicians

This was what I called Home for most of my younger life. Growing up in McCloud and spending so much of my childhood on this river fishing it consistently, it was amazing then, never knowing what was just around the bend or the opening, it was always spectacular and beautiful to just stand there and just listen to the river talk to you if you took the time. This will always be my Home, let's don't let whom ever destroyed or change this wonderful river with any more of their BS. Home Sweet Home !

Fished consistently but never knew what was around the bend, or opening? The opening of your imagination? Walking the banks of the mccloud is only possible if, well it ain't possible. There's the conservatory and u can have that memorized after one trip. There's a trail that you can walk back towards the dam but it's not even close to river at some points and when it is you would need a rope and harness. Then there's down below by Shasta but that's 45 min drive from mccloud. Upper mccloud ? I imagine the fish are tiny there. Look mccloud is an incredible place without a doubt it's an experience and a special feeling being in a historic spot but it's also extremely saddening too think about the indigenous people who called that special place home and had every right to keep it and own it and when out of nowhere on a normal day in their life's in their existence as they stood there with their families a human would appear. That day that they could not have imagined. Their perfect existence, their true freedom, the crashing and slap to the face awakening them to the harsh reality and possibility of explorers of other humans. But after living in heaven from the time you are born with no care in the world to ruin your day, no future bills or jobs or wars to worry about. Can you be thankful for it when it's all you know? Naive, gullible, and friendly kinda like Americans became around 1990 and still are to this day. Blind to the new visitors intentions they never stood a chance as they gradually surely and slowly disappeared. Replaced and displaced, murdered kidnapped or went missing. Just like Americans are. It's no different

They said that the Bull Trout was gone, but I caught a 15 inch Bull just above the lower falls about 10 years ago. This is probably the best trout fishing river there is. I have never fished the McCloud when I haven't had at least a 30 fish day. The problem is that I see to many people yanking fish out of streams here in No. California and just throwing them in the trash can. They just don't know what damage they are doing. I live here on Hat creek and see it all the time. People need to wake up before we ruin it all for generations to come.

I live in Southern California, but my family's from Wyoming, so I do fly fish. But I have yet to have seen this area, and I would like to see it before anything more happens to it. It would have been amazing to see such a species as a Bull Trout live so far south! But, in my case, enough is enough, and I support this.

As California's population increases our lakes and rivers will dry out even faster, fisheries are already waaaaaay over fished. Gosh it's so sad :( by the time I'm 50 I might not even have anything to catch and release anymore, and there will probably be a hotel with fast food restaurants where the McCloud river used to be

+Tigerfishdivision Lancey Of course I'm against it. But I'm vehemently against the privatization of fly fishing and of this and many other beautiful places. The hypocrisy of those who personally benefit while bemoaning .. "look what we're all losing" strikes me as a little self serving. The best way to make an argument against the raising of the dam would be to allow all citizens access to it.

It seems as if our legendary rainbow fisheries in New Zealand where I reside have much to owe to the McCloud....it would be such a shame to exploit the McCloud any further, I hope common sense prevails here - the complete loss of a fishery like the McCloud to me as a fly fisherman and one who has roots in California is like losing your sense of identity.

I believe in conservation and saving the river but these fly fishing jerks want to save the river and mandate catch and release fishing everywhere with a zero catch limit? In 2021 half my honey holes have been banned by these fishing Nazi's. These creeks have become catch and release and fly fishing barbless only. CRAP!! Can't a guy just catch some fish and have a good old fashion fish fry! My grandfather was an elite fly fisherman and he would never even consider mandating the manner in which you fish.
