BIG browns in the Preserve // Fly Fishing McCloud

After two failed attempts, I finally got my flies into the lower McCloud at the Nature Conservancy's Kerry Landreth Preserve.
The talk about the Mac is stuff of legends. Whispers of myths. Real life fish stories.
I'm here to tell you, the hype is true. It's a crazy beautiful river and the fish are many and they aren't small.

Hi Doug, I will sometimes add split shot to add weight, but I'm most usually trying to get my flies down into the strike zone (down near the bottom where the current is slower). So whatever depth that may be plus the speed of the current will tell me how much weight I need. I tend to nymph most of the time and want to spend more time using dries this year, but I have heard of people doing really well in the late afternoons on dries there.

I had to go back and watch because I couldn't remember ha. This is a 10'6" Moonshine Epiphany which is a euro rod. I no longer fish that rod. I have a 10' 4wt R8 as my main trout rod these days. I perfer the versatility of a standard taper rod.

You need a new measuring system. Those are not 15 inch trout. More like 11-12

Dude dude dude you’re freaking terrible man. Imagine this fish literally tried to kill you and you became so exhausted from the fight and you’re breathing sooo hard then the fish dunks your head under water and holds you there for 15 seconds. This is what you’re doing to the fish. These fish you catch are tiny and you’re most likely killing them. That net isn’t accurate either.

That takes balls to come here and say that when you have a video with back to back grip and grins with you long arming those fish to make them look bigger. We both know you have to tire a fish all the way out to get it to sit still like that up in the air. My fish are flopping around and swim off fast. Fight them fast, release them fast. Hypocrite

@@driftstone a better human?Ok mr Saint over here. Is this Christ himself the judger of all humans? ok I didn’t know you set the standard for human behavior. I don’t think it’s a job you’re capable of doing because you can’t even handle fish correctly and you use that stupid net lol. You should stop spending money on GoPro items and instead buy a better net that is fish friendly. But you chose camera equipment over the well being of the fish. Which just goes to show you don’t care about fishing as much as you care about getting views. Because of your incredibly bad fishing handling techniques some beginner may see your disastrous technique and think that’s the way to go about it. So your video is like a virus spreading bad information about the internet.
