"The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" is a 1966 film directed by Sergio Leone.
Among the most famous Western in cinema history, it's considered the epitome of the successful Spaghetti Western genre. The film closes the so-called "dollar trilogy".
The title, created by chance, reflects the thinking of Leone. iIn the three protagonists coexist beauty and ugliness, humanity and cruelty: the director demystifies all these concepts and, at the same time, denounces the madness of war and the very history of the United States, showing the violent and brutal side, tarnished by the mythic tradition of the western epopee.
In the beginning the movie divided the critics, but was a huge success with the public. Its popularity continues unchanged and made it a classic-quoted in film, music and comic books. Readers and users of sites and specialized magazines consider it among the best films of all time.
Like the movie itself, the soundtrack has every right in the legend: it's part of the 101 soundtracks selected by John Caps and is 1 of 5 soundtracks chosen by Richard Schickel for TIME. The album containing the soundtrack remained on the charts for more than a year, reaching No. 4 on the Billboard charts. GDM Music issued a European version in 2001 containing other material, up to a length of 59:30 minutes.

The USA invented western movies. Back in the 1960s when these Italian westerns first came out (I was alive then) they were so artistically brilliant that they caused many American movie critics to feel challenged and even threatened. American critics condemned these movies and Morricone’s musical soundtracks. U.S. movie studios made sure that Italian westerns did not get widespread distribution. It was not until years later that American society fully recognized the genius of these movies and Morricone’s scores.

I was 7 or 8 when I watched this for the first Time with my Grandfather,( My Papa) after supper on a Saturday Night. it was the original Version with the Spanish Title. I sat by my Papa glued to the Screen and we did not really speak at all, just watched it together like there was nothing else in the entire World except us. For 3 hours. I am 51 now and have seen this WONDER of a Journey that has spanned Time itself probably 200 plus times. I have shown this to both of my Son's and they sat there mesmerized as I did soooo long ago. I will be showing it to my Grandson who is due on 08-11-2020. Little Max and I will take this JOURNEY together when he is old enough. I want that memory for Him to be as lasting as it was for me when I watched with my Papa. To me, the MASTERPIECE never got's old. The HEAVEN'S ALIGNED for this one. There will NEVER be anything ever that can top this one. Between Leone directing, Morricone's score,Eastwood's Blondy,Van Cleef's BAD Guy and Eli Wallach's Scoundrel, you were there with them as the MOVIE unfolded and then the RIDE that they drug you along on is FOREVER ETCHED IN MY SOUL. I will never forget the Ecstasy of Gold scene where Tuco ran through the Sad Hill Cemetery and then Boom , the Music stops when He find's Arch Stanton's Grave Marker. The Lust for the Gold can be seen in his Eyes as well as his actions. OOOOH just to hold it in his hands is ALL that is on his Mind. How could He put Himself in that Mind set to portray those action's? Magnificent!!! The End of the RIDE comes to a CRASHING halt as Angel Eyes tracks them down and then you are not expecting First, the Right Arm throwing the Shovel and 2nd Him saying "2 can dig a lot quicker 1 as they both spin around to see Him holding the Gun that looks as though it has been in and out of that Holster Hundred's of times and MANY a MAN SAW IT FOR THE LAST TIME . Well what can be said about the End of this Move? From the Point Blondy tells Angel Eyes that "If you shoot me? You won't see a scent of the Money" So at this point the ride is simply REFUELING for the "SHOW DOWN" and the rest as to say is History. As a child, I was not expecting Blondy to shoot just Angle Eyes. I thought he would shoot both of them. He does one last "Finger in the Eye" to Tuco with Him having Him stand on the Cross Marker which looks Raggedy at best and ties him up and then rides out, to come back and shoot the Rope which is how their Relationship began and set this all in motion. And have enough distance between Him and Tuco to make a clean getaway. To this Day I remember Tuco yelling "Blondy, you know what you are? Just a dirty Son Of a B**** as the Music starts playing the End Score. It stuck with me my whole Life. "THERE WILL NEVER BE ANY THING LIKE IT.........EVER.

You have captured my thoughts exactly!!!! Love every bit of this magnificent piece of art! Thank you Leone for making Lee, Clint, Eli and Ennio’s score immortal. This movie does that to you. I first saw this when it was first released in the US in 1967 or so. My parents and I had previously watched For A Few Dollars More sometime earlier that year. That one also made such an impact that the anticipation I felt for GBU when I first saw the trailer on TV was something I have never felt since. I am now 61 and the feelings I have for these movies have never changed. As Vin from The Magnificent Seven might say I envy the feeling you will have when you introduce your grandson to this masterpiece. Priceless.

I was at Ft McCllelan in 71, when a bunch of us guys in decon platoon decided to watch 3 spagetti westerns at a drive in. I had not seen them before and was not familiar with the music. After watching all three I fell in love with the music. Who did this great music? Then a few years later came "Once upon a time in the West" and again I fell in love with this music. I think I was about 9 or 10 years old when one evening my old Dad called me and said "you might want to sit down and watch this". The theme tune grabbed me straight away, as I imagine it did most. Then the atmospheric build up to the three boys walking into the Saloon. Gunfire and then 'the Ugly' bursts out through the window. That was me...hooked. What a movie, what a ride, what a musical score!!! My first ever 'favourite movie' and it will always be a 'top 10'er.

In the DVD comments, Eli Wallach said that was totally improvised, because he didn't know a thing about guns (l.o.l.)...which makes it an even greater (and funnier) scene.

For this movie there were 5 classic talents that happen to come together in 3 different artistic categories to make a legendary film. Sergio Leone, Ennio Morricone, Eastwood, Wallach, and Van Cleef. Thats unheard of these days. Probably because theres not much talent available now. The best talent today wouldn't compare to the average talent of the 60s and 70s or prior to that. Just my opinion.

For those of you who haven't heard, there is a shorter version of the theme done by the Danish National Symphony Orchestra that is brilliant and note-perfect, but it lacks the gritty authenticity of this original. It lacks the twang in the guitars and the blare in the trumpets
