ENNEAGRAM TYPE 3 "WINGS" | 3w2 & 3w4 | The Star & The Professional

Фильм және анимация

Enneagram Type Threes are self-assured, success driven and charming. They have a refined taste in outer appearances and are ambitious, competent, and energetic. They are diplomatic and poised, but can also be overly concerned with their image and what others think of them. They have the capacity for huge chunks of productivity to reach their goals and high standards.
The two wings of an Enneagram type 3 are:
Enneagram Three with a Two-Wing: "The Star"
Enneagram Three with a Four Wing: "The Professional"
By understanding wings, you can gain a clearer picture of what your inner motivations look like and how they emerge from your actions and thoughts. Wings can significantly alter how behavior manifests in an individual. ❤ ❤ ❤

Sometimes it feels like my wings are at war with themselves, haha! My 2 wing LOVES encouraging people, making them feel loved, involved and cared for. My 4 on the other hand longs for beauty, introspection, and emotional intelligence. I do feel things on a deep level but I am only comfortable with expressing that in private and few and far between moments.

3w2 ESFP here!! I enjoy attention, but I never feel my people-skills are the best The type of person I am is never static, it’s like i always wanna improve myself, my people-skills, how fun I am, etc. I’m too stubborn to call it a day and just say, i’m happy being me I wanna be everything at once, the fun one, the chill one, the centre of attention, the party bringer, the charming one, etc. It’s why I find it easier to have a good appearance, because it’s easier to control - i can always change my aesthetic if i want and it’s easy to But with choosing how I wanna be - it feels like I can only choose to be one type of person I’m venting now, but this is how I relate to 3w2!

I’m a 3w4 and this definitely helped me better grasp the reasons why I act the way I do. I’m always concerned about impressing others and when I fail to come off the way I want I tend to experience “imposter syndrome.” Any other 3s experience this?

I've been diving deeper into this recently with a coach I'm working with. Learned I was a 3w2. It does describe me. I felt totally shocked. But after diving deeper I was able to realize some childhood trauma that has created lots of protective barriers around me. It's been interesting to uncover more. Thanks for this - helped to hear it all again.

I'm 3w4. Most of my friends are 3w2. On the upside, being around a 3w2 is great because they're out going where I'm shy. They help me get out of my shell which can bring out my creativity. On the downside, sometimes they can be charlatans and exhibit the Peter Principle and even take credit for my hard work. Then I feel taken advantage of by the friendship because I'm task-oriented and they're people oriented. I do the work, they get the credit even in the average levels, especially if their social stacking is first. Despite all of this they can be very entertaining.

This is great! I had no idea about the wings until recently and I needed clarity. I can see the wing 2 & 4 battling each other when describing me!! I lean more towards the 2 but I have a large amount of 4 in there too. The older I get the less social I want to be and I find comfort in my alone time early each morning. That fuels my soul more than anything. Thank you for teaching this! I am going to share it with my Mastermind group. Have a wonderful day. :)

I have the same struggle. I’ve read somewhere that our opposite wing often develops in the second half of life which brings balance. That has proven true in my life. In recent years I’ve enjoyed being by myself more, long solo hikes, photography etc which is stuff that 10 years ago no one would have imagined me being into!

Now understanding both sides I can achieve my goal - to find worthiness from within. Great summary! Madonna, Beyoncé, Elizabeth Hurley, Joan Collins and ‘Blair Waldorf’ of Gossip Girl are all typed Enneagram 3 with 4 wing in personality database website app. I have always found these ladies my most inspiring positive role models. I also enjoy 4 wing 3s very much. Angelina Jolie was always typed Enneagram 4 wing 3 (she had a wild child/femme fatale persona), but recently websites type her as enneagram 3 wing 4 ( as her humanitarian work and sophisticated image now dominate). I always thought she was dominant 3, and her early wild child phase was her 4 wing. She seems far too self-assured and professional, rather than talented romantic but troubled by sadness like George Michael and Michael Jackson (4 wing 3s). 3s are so inspiring and 4s create such beautiful art. I love them both 💕

100% relate to the 4 wing. This is probably one of the best explanations of 3's wings that I've heard. Most tend to overemphasize the 3 w 4's creativity. I do see a bit of 2 in me. When I was young, I was far more outgoing. Then when I went through my Master's program I became a far more reserved, intellectual type. Sometimes I miss the more outgoing side of myself and that feel as though I've lost it.

Thank you for this! I’ve recently accepted the notion that I’ve been mistyping myself for years - as an 8 (specifically an 8w9) rather than what I actually seem to be... a 3 with a 2 wing, since Type 3 has a, uh, bit of an image problem that I was resisting. 😉 When I finally realized that that was VERY Type 3 of me, I started researching the wings, and 3w2 just feels very spot on for me. I very much identify with the goal-focus of Type 3 overall, but the people part is also very salient! I like to encourage others and help them find ways to acknowledge and use their skills to find success/happiness/all that good stuff! As hard as I work on me and my “stuff,” I do also enjoy playing the cheerleading role for others!

Thanks for this insight Hilary! I think I've shifted from 3w2 to 3w4 during different seasons of life. I had been thinking I was more of a 3w4, based on more interest in creative outlets (as opposed to my very professional job as a physician), personal growth, writing, art, etc. I definitely have felt more 3w2 when I was at healthier points in life, and when I'm in more of a helper-achiever space I feel really great. I'm definitely going to keep digging into this. Thanks!

I just learned about enneagram types today and jumped right in. I'm a 3 all the way! My hobby is reined cowhorse and I recently changed trainers. My biggest problem was wanting to "do it right" for the trainer, be accepted and good. When My new trainer said just do it even if it's ugly, it was like a lightning bolt hitting me. Learning something new is hard for us 3s. She gave me permission to "do it ugly" and that changed everything. This video was super helpful. I can't quite tell if I'm a 3w2 or 3w4. Depends on the situation.

Hi yeah I’m a type three and I never really believed in these personality tests but this is just creepily wild. I never thought that I would relate to something more than seeking validation from family. I seek validation from my sister and I don’t know why and she doesn’t know why either lol. Also, I make a lot of lists and I like to check off when I’ve done something so this is just crazy.

I'm a 3w4 and this was a very accurate description of me! I am very sensitive and struggle with self-worth. I also push myself so hard to do well at whatever I'm focused on, to the point where I forget that my worth is a fixed status -- never changing no matter what I do or don't do. I mistyped early on as a 4, I think due to my emotions and the stuck place I was at in life, but a few years on I redid the test and definitely identify with being a 3, especially with the 4 wing. I kinda shun the limelight, so I don't think I have much 2 at all!

I definitely fit naturally as a 3w4 as an Accountant, I am often told I am very serious too, which ironically always surprises me because I don't think I am. Interesting you keyed in on that. Although I am also an ESTJ, looking back, I think I tend to lean on my wing 2 when I am more healthy emotionally. When I struggle, I become more introverted and lose my wing 2. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts more on the effects of each wing when struggling and what could help at those times.

Hi Hillary! I toggle between a Type 3 and 7, when I first did this test 5 years ago I was a type 4 and no one believed it, everyone said that I’m a 7. And when I attempted the quiz again I’m a 3. I also understand that enneagrams doesn’t change, however for me depending on the situation I realise I can be more of a 3 when the situation is competitive, I wanna win not for myself but for my team as well. However in general settings I’m naturally a 7, enjoys having fun with my friends and also experiencing new things in life, very spontaneous as well. Any advice for me to distinguish the 2 types? :) thank you!

Is it possible to not be as driven as other 3s? I think I might be a 3w4 and I often judge my worth on grades etc. I have an extreme inner critic and I love validation from others. I’m pretty introverted but I still like attention and love it when my skills are noticed, I aspire to be the best. However I think I’m a lot less decisive I’m not as hard working. I want to work on myself but I sometimes don’t think I have the energy or commitment too. I can be veryyyyy nihilistic and it’s tough to concentrate. My personality type is entp so I wonder if that has something to do with it at all. I just don’t think I’m as ambitious yet share the same fears and motivation as other 3s

This is a struggle for 3's for sure. Especially the 3w4. The biggest difference would be learning that you are separate from your accomplishments. You're not more lovable because of what you do. Your worth is not dependent on your achievements. People choose to love a 3 for who they are. Some ways to grow in this area are learn to moderate your pace. Take time to slow down and detach from performance and goals. Practice looking inward for your own identity apart from success and the expectations of others. Realize that love comes from being, not from doing and having. Thank you for sharing. I'm sure so many type 3's can relate.

I don't know if you'll ever see this, but I'm lost... I've been going through all that I can trying to find the one answere to help. There is one thing that the ennegram is misunderstanding about the 3. It's not that we mistake love for the attention, it's more like we have never known what love feels like. Attention is the closest thing we have to knowing love. Looking back in my life, I can honestly say that I've never known that feeling! And I don't know how to love myself, when all I see are people being accepted for who they are, and all I'm getting is judgement. Thinking 'what am I doing wrong'.
