Enhance & Upscale Any Video to 4K Using Gigapixel's AI | NEW Method

Download Gigapixel: bit.ly/3lGPIq2
Use the code MDMZ15 to get a 15% DISCOUNT when you sign up using the link above.
Whether you have old footage that needs enhancement or you shot in 1080p and would like to be able to vary your frame size or crop in post, this video walks you through one fast & easy way to do it. In the demo, I use 720p footage but of course, you should be able to achieve even better results using 1080p footage as your source.
Download Adobe Premiere Pro: prf.hn/l/DRPgbOB
I was using Gigapixel for a while to upscale low-resolution photos and the result is satisfying almost 100% of the time, and I thought why not use the same concept with video frames and therefore be able to sharpen and upscale video footage as well, so I tried it and made a tutorial. I hope you guys find this useful :)

If you're wondering why I haven't used video enhance instead, I actually made this video around the time VEAI was released, back then it was really slow and buggy, but now it seems to have gotten better, so I made another video comparing both methods: do check it out here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZWRptNWoaJCnZ6g.html You can now use the code MDMZ15 to get a 15% DISCOUNT on your next purchase from Topazlabs! Just make sure to sign up using this link and apply the code on checkout: topazlabs.com/ref/529/ Edit: to customize the upscaled file name in newer versions (v5.0): go to file>preferences, remove the default prefix and suffix, and disable "add scaling mode to filename"

  • @___xyz___

@@Mr.Kumar1 But contextualised guesses are pretty good. For instance, it doesn't matter so much if the eagle's eye is actually enhanced on the assumption that the machine thinks it matches the eye of an owl when the eyes of eagles and owls are virtually identical. Same with lettering. But of course it gets to a point where whichever result you get can not be determined, but in that case it's technically no trouble for the algorithm to determine "this piece of data is too ambiguous and matches a too big dataset to be enhanced" and then leave it at that. But in all other cases, you could tweak the software to do pretty much anything your data allows. Furthermore, what's interesting is that once you pass a certain threshold of data uncertainty (like 4 sigma standard deviation) there is theoretically no limit to how much the subject can be enhanced. If the machine is sufficiently certain about what it's looking at, the only thing stopping it from giving you molecular detail is data of that detail. But that's theoretical anyway. Such data cannot be obtained.

This can be so. In any case, as with Topaz Lab's Video Enhance AI, I've found Gigapixel can produce very uneven results. In fact, often I find other Topaz Labs sharpening filters provide less unwanted artefacts. And then of course there's the superb Neat Video for AE & PS. This plugin is designed to minimise noise & grain, but it's possible to sharpen still images & video, with very low noise settings.

I just tried that today with my new animation! Using Blender 3.4 with Eevee engine, I rendered as an image sequence at 1080p 25fps, then assembled in Premiere Pro and exported at 1080p 60fps. This is because I tried to see if at 60fps KZread would use the VP9 codec for better quality, but still didn't, so I used Topaz 3.1 to upscale to 4K and there is a HUGE improvement! I highly recommend this method if you want to save tons of rendering hours.

I like gigapixels but I feel like it tends to struggle a bit with VHS or other analog videos because they tend to have a lot of artifacts and "noise" that gigapixels sometimes interprets as actual physical scratches on the surface of the object being filmed. Maybe there might be a preliminary step to do before throwing the stuff in gigapixels in that case. There's probably no better alternative right now though as far as software goes though. Although I think there could be a way to actually physically scan the footage on the actual tape to upscale it (kind of like scanning a photo negative) but I don't think any consumer equipment does it sadly. But if you have a digital 720 and want to upgrade to 4k? It's perfect

In a case like using old VHS footage, you have to manually edit each frame that has a defect you wish to have removed. Sux, but thats what you have to do with any footage that needs to be restored before up-scaling. I had to do just this for the 'Misfits of Science' Pilot episode. Capture, restore, then up-scale.

According to my experience there is a way to encrease video quality drastic, but it is laborious! Make several sets as desribed in the video with different color tones (I recommend slightly red, greened one and blued, but smoothly) then Import all ligned into you cuting program, then play with opacity function! This generates new color tones als result that Photoshop can't do by auto colorize b&w Images. This gives more deepness overall. Additional you can use the "make one color transparency function" when they are aligned/overlayed, this generates regional new color tones not the full image is affected. Additional play with "color adjust", "contrast", "saturation" and "brightness" for every overlayed video track.

Cool trick (I ll try for sure) even if I think it introduces a lot of flickering on the edges and details as the AI process wouldn t consider for each frame the continuity between them. Maybe a smart temporal denoise (like Neat video, temporal option) applied on the timeline where the frames are reassembled as video, would reduce that issue.
