03:15 Pedal-Assist Levels

04:45 Conclusion
As you can see, it perfectly fits into the trunk of a regular sedan.
Although this e-bike with small 20 inch wheels may seem like a lightweight bike, it actually isn’t.
Weighing about 70 pounds, it’s quite heavy. So, be careful when lifting it and don’t hurt your back.
It just takes a couple of seconds to unfold the bike, close the joints, unfold those pedals and you are ready to go.
Before we hit on the road, let’s quickly recap some main features and components of this e-bike.
It has a 750 Watt rear hub motor. It really surprised me how sharp this motor is.
The motor has 80 newtons of torque and you can clearly feel when the motor kicks in.
When you start pedaling or hit the throttle, there is a small delay at first but then the motor comes in quite aggressively and starts to do its work.
The battery is located inside the frame of the bike and has 615 Watt Hours of energy capacity.
It takes about 6 hours to fully charge, which is quite an average time for charging a battery of this size.
I really like that the battery is removable. It’s really convenient when you keep your bike in the garage and want to charge the battery in the room.
If we talk about the regular bike components, it has a Shimano Tourney drivetrain, which is not the highest quality but it gets the work done.
Mechanical disc brakes are not as good as hydraulic but there is more than enough stopping power.
The display is very nice.
I think you can read there everything you need. However, for me, there was one thing missing, the remaining mileage.
It would be awesome to see how many miles I can cover with the current pedal-assist level.
Other than that, everything is there what a solid commuter bike must have - fenders, bright LED lights, and a rack.
When talking about riding experience - honestly I really liked it.
I am 6 feet 3 inches tall and I thought a folding bike with 20-inch wheels is clearly too small for me.
Actually, I was wrong.
The seat post and handlebar are very well adjustable to fit almost everyone - teenagers, men, women, seniors - you name it.
EP 2 Pro has very good maneuverability.
It’s very easy to turn around in a small area.
Also, it is convenient to take corners.
I tested out the 5 different pedal assist levels.
The first one gives you very little assistance - about up to 10 kilometers per hour which is about 6 miles per hour.
I also didn’t use the 2nd level much.
My favorites are definitely levels 3 and 4.
When I was on level 3, the speedometer showed a speed of about 22 kilometers per hour and on level 4 the speed was around 25 kilometers per hour which is approximately 16 miles per hour.
When on level 5 the top speed I got was around 40 kilometers per hour and the battery level started to shrink very quickly.
4 bars of battery level turned quite fast into 2 bars.
Later when I turned back to level 3, I got one bar back.
But what is the exact remaining range, unfortunately, we don’t know.
On their website, Engwe says that the range of EP 2 Pro is about 45 miles.
It’s probably only possible in pedal-assist 1.
You definitely don’t get such range when riding with full throttle using level 5 assistance.
I think the more realistic range is about 30 miles when using an assist level 2 and 3 and some occasional 4, but it’s something I must test more.
Usually, you have to avoid uneven terrain with city bikes, but with Engwe it’s different.
The front suspension and 4 inch wide fat tires make even off-road rides possible.
Of course, it’s not a mountain bike and I wouldn’t recommend going with it on some high-speed downhill course, but on light gravel or the grass, this e-bike can ride very easily.
So, the most important thing, what I like the most about this electric bike is practicality.
You can ride with it on different terrains.
One bike suits the whole family and you can easily fold it up and put it in the trunk of the car.
If you look for a practical commuter to go to work or school, then Engwe EP 2 Pro is surely something you can consider.
Of course all the bike components are not the best possible level but the bike costs about only 12 hundred bucks so you can’t expect those top-notch components.
Anyway, Electric Wheelers definitely gives a thumbs up for this bike.

I am from Australia and bought a very similar, see identical, bike with a 250watt motor, no throttle. This is legal in Australia. My bike is identical to this one only silver in colour. I believe many of these things are made in a Chinese factory and have different labels jammed on them. I paid $800au two months ago, about $450 American. I am very happy with my bike.

in most countries these bikes have no permit for circulation due to 250w limits for motor assistance & speed (25km/h), in some you need a number plate with insurance such as small motorbikes (40€/year) considering it an S-Pedelec after some changes & sending its laboratory tests from the manufacturer to the insurance company, elsewise it's an illegal ride without insurance & possible legal consequences as they mean- of cause, WE decide any moment, in which category we ride by looking on speedometer (you feel it, too) & reserving higher pedal assistance for riding uphills only, because once i fell in a curve exceding 26km/h due to rain & had luck with no car behind me ! best is to change the brand & shop name decals for not revealing such details to strangers (such as gendarmerie), painting over the originals & fitting new ones (such as kreidler...). the pedal assistance steps use to be 50w steps i guess, so we can calculate how much w max.we drive in each level if the highest is 750w.

in decathlon sports gear store, they adviced me to charge the battery better in intervalls of 1h max. duration for getting it fully charged at 100% and provide longivity to it. sometimes i use an electric timer for the 1h intervalls, mostly nighttimes. also important to disconect the charger from the plug showing green led: prevents chemical decay of the litium cells. if the battery comes to 0ºC or below after a winter's ride, we'd have to wait charging it until it gets 1ºC at least indoors or exposed to the sun (gives almost 1led bar (battery indicator) advantage parking it in the sun if it's cold)

  • @ElectricWheelers

    @ElectricWheelers

    2 жыл бұрын

Technically no, but it's a somewhat gray area. Every country in the EU has little bit different rules. In most countries, the motor can't exceed 250W. Also, there is mostly a speed limit of 25 km/h. Engwe has different assistant levels, so you can limit your speed accordingly. However, if you respect others and be polite in traffic, I have never heard that someone had to prove to the police what is the bike's motor power. Check out this Wiki article about e-bike laws in Europe: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_bicycle_laws#Europe

Hello, I’m from Australia and here they are capped at 250watts and 25kph. I have been doing a lot of looking at various models over here and have noted some are fitted with 750watt motors. A dealer told me that upon purchase there is a waiver in the instructions that advise you that these bikes can only be used on private property due to the size of the motor. Now, over here it’s highly unlikely any police would bother to stop to check the size of an ebike motor. But… if someone has an accident on one and makes an insurance claim for injuries, they will be found out. We don’t gat a lot of the brands here that America does but I noticed that most of them here appear to be the same bike with lots of different brand names stuck on them, plus they are all black. I was about to buy an ET brand bike with a 250watt motor and 10ah battery for $1700. I thought that was a great price and value for money. That night I found a brand on line called Fortis, and bought the same bike, different colour for $800. It hasn’t arrived yet but I found a local bloke with one and he swears by it He has put 900 kn on it in twelve months and thinks his bike is sensational value. Can’t wait to get mine and time will tell.

Let me preface this by saying the bike likely wasn’t designed for this. kzread.infoUgkxwC0IIeIomGQVeBWg-kKJaToZkLEFIA2W I picked this up for a trip to the Rockies where I didn’t want to mess with a rental car. The bike packs down great and was easily carried through TSA and through the airport. It’s a bit heavy to tote around all day but for smaller airports it was manageable. I gate checked the bike twice with no issues and it held up great. Overall I did around 100 miles through the Rockies and the only issue I had was the left crank arm kept falling off. Due to the remoteness I couldn’t source any locktite so I just kept tightening it every 10-15 miles. The bike is reasonably comfortable for 4-6 hours of riding with a Brooks saddle. For reference im 6’ 200lbs and felt like the bike fit me pretty well. The brakes are decent and the tires held up great. Overall for the price I’d say it’s a great commuter bike but I’d swap out the chainring if you plan to do a lot of hills.

My e bike goes as fast as I need it to for being a bicycle,I have reached 35 mph and they say the top speed is 28,the throttle only is limited to 20 mph, however my pedal assist really kicks in from 3 4 and 5 and that's where I usually have it at somewhere in between there usually on 5 right now with a 48 volt battery 10.5 amp I get about 22 to 25 miles on one charge guaranteed going full blast pedal assist 5 throttle on cruise control I can't override the throttle only though being set to 20 miles an hour that would be the only fault of my bike it's not in anyway neither and it's only a 500 w motor 800 Watt peak blew the socks off radmini when racing him down the road he had to get an upgrade to even keep up with my bike and I still win I have an 18 amp controller he has a 35 amp controller and a 750 watt motor I smoke the rad mini and I'll go ahead and say it it's an electric XP 1.0 out of the box no nothing done to it no upgrades no nothing the only complain I got is that throttle being stuck at 20 I'm not really into computer chips and controllers and all that stuff so I don't know how to do that overwrite it or no manually override it or anything I probably just mess something up so but if I could ever ride that that would be awesome electric SP 1.0 you don't really need those shocks when you're riding on flat road usually to tell you to lock it out anyway if you ride on a nice smooth services which you know asphalt and brand new asphalted road maybe night and day but they're still smooth compared to a lot of other things yeah 35mph on a factory bike rated for a top speed of 28 mph for $900 brand new American paper backs. For the price, and smoking 750 watt bikes I would have to say and it's not just because I have one but electric XP 1.0 is probably the best bike for the buck still to this day in 2022 February

Both the same. If battery is totally full, on flat surface you should get almost 28mph without pedaling. Top speed will slightly decrease if the battery is half empty.

Yes, that's true. The bike is heavy. But it's only a problem if you have to constantly carry it upstairs or smth. When just riding, you don't notice the extra weight.
