Hi, I completed this mod on both our Engwe EP-2 Pro bikes and thought I would share a few thoughts. Firstly, our nothched washers or spacers whatever they are are located on the outside of the frame not inside as yours are. Secondly the notch in the shaft that the motor wire passes through has to be facing up when the bike is upside down to ensure the wire doesn't get cut by the shaft as it will be very tight if the other way round. Also I had to adjust the rear caliper and derailleur on both bikes as the new sprocket moved everything to the other side a bit. My thoughts on this mod. With the top speed set to 35kph in PA5 we can now pedal and and easily keep up with the rear wheel. PA3 is now 25kph and PA4 30kph. It is fun to boot along at these speeds but there is a big hit to range. With the old sprocket we have ridden these bikes 87 kms on gravel rail bed trails in PA3 and PA4 at speeds between 22kph and 25kph and still had 1 bar of battery left at the end of the ride. Yesterday after riding at speeds between 25kph and 35kph with the new sprockets, our batteries were down to 3 bars at the 27 km so we turned around, at the 54km point we were down to 1 bar and had been for the last 5kms or so. The motor is on almost constantly as you get above 25kph no matter how hard you are pedalling. The whine of the motor is also noticeably louder at the higher speeds. So while this mod is good for shorter trips at higher speed, if you like to ride long distance as we do, I would say stay with the original sprocket. I think Engwe actually did a really good job with the original setup striking a balance between speed and range. If you ride short trips and want to get there faster, this is a great mod. In our case we will likely only use the higher speeds when on paved roads where we want to get off them as soon as possible,. Thanks for posting it, we used the Aliexpress link you provided, the parts arrived in Canada from China in 8 days and were exactly the same as yours. Adding an update as of 1 Sep 2023 as we have purchased a second battery for our bikes with 17AH capacity. With this second battery the sprocket mod makes perfect sense. We no longer have to worry about running out of battery as we carry the two spare batteries with us on the rear carrier of one of the bikes. Our average speed yesterday on a 76KM ride was 28.8 KPH, we completed the ride with a moving time of 2 hours 29 minutes. The new sprocket and second battery mean we can head out on longer rides and not worry about getting home and not having to be on the seat as long also a lot more fun bombing along at 32KPH. If interested, we purchased the batteries from Aliexpress Ace power store, the 17AH Panasonic model. GREAT VIDEO I do so like a person who both speaks and shows the way to carry out the procedure. The comment by john6545 was also good as I would not have thought that the bike upside down would have made such a difference, as for why Engwe not putting on the 11 tooth gear could it be that the bike could go above the so called 15.3 mph .As I remember from my early days of cycling we could go over 30 mph just leg power alone and I could cycle 100 miles a day on weekends, but being a lot older oh how I like a bit power help in my older age.

Probably go for a 11/34 and a bigger chain ring maybe a 53/56 or even a 58 if it doesn't foul the rear frame or exceed the stand below when sat on the floor ie-folded. The reason being you'll have much taller gearing in 7th but still be able to climb hills with assist on the 34 tooth 1st gear.

Thought about increasing the chain ring myself, don't know how big you could go before you would need a longer chain though.

@@MidlandBulletRiders just buy a new chain that has more links than the original or add additional links from another chain. Better to buy new though. Litepro do a crankset for sensible money that looks really good on the bike or you could just buy the chain ring on its own. I'm going to try the crankset first on my engwe engine x before I purchase a 11/34 cassette.

great mod, do you think it also possible to add torque sensor instead the original one?

Yes if you have one fitted. It will keep the chain away from the tyre.

I have changed front and back. Front has 58T back has 11-28T. Can now pedal with good resistance at a normal pace while going at a top speed of 40 km/h. Really recommend doing this when your teeth are worn out. It did need a longer chain.

I don't think you will fit that many in the frame. The important one is the small cog for sure. I find I only really use gears 3 to 7.

Well I gave up the chain ring nut was so tight I couldnt undo it at became concerned I may break it, i cannot understand why yours was so easy , didn't even use a chain whip ?

Not without dismantling, So long as it slips over the hub should be ok. Just needs to push the freewheel away from the hub. Strange how some have it and others don't.

Hello, Thanks for the video, i got ep2 pro and i am facing same issue, over 33 km/h pedal are free spin. What about changing chairing for bigger one? has anyone tried it?

Yes known a few people do that. I think changing the freewheel is just a cheaper and easier option.

Hi mate. I have the identical bike to you that I bought used with 40 miles on the clock.. however I can’t get 1st gear!! .. I’ve had it looked at by a bike mechanic that says 1st isn’t possible due to the fat tyre set up ?? . That’s a load BS .. but have you had issues prior to changing the cassette ..doesn’t appear to be the normal adjustment screws on my gear set up..any advise ..Alan( new sub)

If you notice on mine, there is a washer behind the sprocket. Not all are fitted with this apparently, but I found the chain caught on the tyre in first gear without it. If it's not fitted, a large washer of some kind could be put on there to bring the chain further away from the wheel.

The sensors use the pedals to measure power boost with little magnets , the faster the chain ring passes them, the more boost...so a higher gearing slows down your cadence and those sensors see that you are pedalling slower, doesn't that mean less electric motor boost and you replacing it to do the same speed? Maybe Engwe don't do it because there's no benefit on a road legal bike already illegal here and on the limit most other places? Nice video again. I just had a wierd problem on mine, the brake cable was odd, turned out it was frayed inside the outer sheath and getting worse, easy fix, just threading a new inner without removing anything but the inner. The way the cables are routed I was dreading replacing the whole thing.

The Ep-2 has a cadence sensor which delivers a uniform amount of assist at each assist level, regardless of the amount rotations or pressure you are applying. The pedals just need to turn. The one you thinking of could be a torque-sensor.

Hi chaps. I agree with MBR that the cadence sensors only seem to detect rotation and not speed of rotation. The assist kicks in after a certain number of rotation of the front chainwheel so in a higher gear it takes longer to kick in for that reason. That's how it seems to anyhow.

Yep, it's an all or nothing system. It does not matter how much you pedal, the controller will still give the same amount of power. Personaly I think it sucks, a great improvement would be a torque sensor. Great bike anyway, i have mine for 2 months now and I love it.

No, it's a completely different fitting onto the hub.

The chain should last a long time as the electric drive comes from the hub. A mid drive motor is actually pulling on the chain, like regular peddling.

Prices seem to fluctuate depending how well they are selling. I've bought many things only to check the next day, and see that the price has risen.

Difficult to say as I've seen them in different orders on other bikes. The main thing is to keep the small sprocket away from the frame. On some the notched washes are inside the frame, on others, on the outside.

Hello, I wonder, by how many miles has the effective pedalling speed increased by switching to 11 teeth. With my EWP2 750, pedalling is only effective to some 26 km|h, eg. little over 16 miles. How many m/h is peddalling effective with 11 teeth? Thanks for your videos, very nice and inspiring.

Do you mean how fast can you go by pedal alone? If so I'm not sure, I use assist way before that. But the assist speed hasn't changed, it just allows pedal rotation to keep up with max speed. With the original 13 tooth, it is difficult to keep up with, or add more leg power to it. Once you reach the max speed of the assist, the motor will not give you any more, so anything over that is provided by your legs.

@@markstol2033 Comfortably on the flat 22mph. If I put in more effort than I like, then 24mph. But the 11 tooth just makes it so I'm not pedalling so fast.

seems stupid to have a black arrow on black background to line them up to reconnect the power.

Can never understand why they didn't fit an 11t in the factory?
