Thank you for your video's ! In this video I learned that to convert mm to inches and vice versa when setting the speed using lightburn , you just go to the setting box and select the opposite of what your using for speed and go back to your work and it shows what the number is ether way . Thanks I have been wanting that information . This will make it so when other people post there setting you can easily see what they are as per the settings you use. Keep up the good work !

  • @dangerous8333

I hear what you're saying but I usually reserve the term "work of art" for something that's made by hand using hand tools. They can be electric, but hand tools all the same. Sometimes the Art comes from the difficulty of the project. Laser cutting is not difficult at all. Grandmother's do it. I'm a traditional woodworker and Craftsman, but I also use laser engravers, and I consider the two things entirely different. Having said that, can you make art with a laser engraver. Yes you can. But that art comes from the designing. A simple compass like this laser etched on a tile (while cool) doesn't qualify. I think if you asked most craftsmen who also use laser engravers they would agree. The only people that think they're making art with CNC machines are people that have no real skills, or real artist that can design extremely detailed and intricate designs. This is in no way a criticism of this channel. Just as someone who's been an artist for 30 years now I want to make sure we differentiate between the two, before real Art is lost. We are already on the edge of that cliff.

The lighter S was the first thing engraved, often laser engraver have heat issues where the laser puts out lower laser power until it warms up. The result is that the start of the engraving is dodgy. One solution is to do a small throw-away engraving immediately before the main engraving, so the laser is properly hot when the main engraving starts. Another solution is to check and adjust/repair the electronic laser driver, and I remember one case of this working well with a 40w tube laser. So it's a warm-up issue. Hope that helps. 🙂

I had added a comment about why you use paint but, I started looking at the other comments and saw it had been asked and answered. What would the tile look like if you did not use any paint. Would it just stay white or would you still get a black engraving but just be much lighter. I would love to see a video of something simple engraved on tile without any paint just to see what it looks like. Thanks and great video.

When you set the laser to the center of the tile, does it matter where on the computer screen the graphic is placed? I’ve tried setting the laser at the lower left corner of the tile, when I click “frame”, it frames the correct spot. But when I click “start”, the laser will just travel to the lower left corner of the machine bed without doing anything else.

Yes, the laser is burning the titanium oxide. That is the chemical reaction of the laser and yes the burning causes the black

Papa this is a great video! I have watched at least a dozen times and can't wait t get my Reizer 20 watt laser set up. I have a couple questions. 1. where did you get the compas rose file from? 2. Did you have to use inkscape or something like that to get it ready to engrave. I already have about three ideas using this file for gifts.

Hi The problem with the (S) usually is due to maladjustment on the mirror of the laser if yours have mirrors, when you engrave in the top part that won't happen but as the laser goes down and get far the laser will start hitting less centered on the pointer inner hole, an adjustment on the mirrors leaving the pointer on the bottom right of the engraving space of the machine should fix it, I had probably done this easy fix 20 times with my machine Best Luck Fixing it

Thank you for answering a few questions before I could ask. I've seen many of these tiles videos and almost everyone talks about removing underlying paint color. I had been wondering if it can actually go into the tile. I don't want to potentially sell something and get complaints the coffee cup scrapes off the design, even with a seal coat.

@@PawPawsWorkShop Opps, I don't think I phrased it right. I was previously wondering if the laser actually went into the tile instead of just removing the spray paint layers. This was the first one I have seen that said it was permanent instead of layer removal. So, thanks for answering a question I had for so long at roughly 7 minutes in.

so what if i want to "mass produce" a bunch of tiles? do i still use basic spray paint in a can on each individual tile, or can i shoot them with a larger volume spray gun on a set of a dozen or so placed on card board? not that familiar yet with lasers and paint, so was curious if all paint would react the same? brother in law works at an auto body shop and has access to spray guns and paint booths where i could paint a couple of dozen at a time to prep them ahead of time.

Possibility for the bottom of the S is that the laser has not fully started to fire. Often have to run a quick small file to get the laser fully firing before running any work files when starting the laser for the first run of the day.

I looked up the laser diode in the video and the specs say "operating range 40-75'C", so the problem is almost definitely a warm up issue and can be worked around as you suggested. I googled around and found a PhD thesis "A novel laser diode wavelength stabilisation technique..." by Abdullah Asmari. The thesis claimed wavelength is dependent on temperature (due to thermal expansion of the relevant micro geometries), and so initially poor engraving action could be due to an unsuitable wavelength at ambient temperatures. However, it's also quite possible that the 40'C minimum temperature marks the lowest input value of the control algorithm that produces normal power outputs. It should be possible to develop experiment tests to determine whether the wavelength or control system effect is the main contributor

Paw Paw. In this video, you stopped the engraving the project right after you had improved the Letter S which was great. However, If I wanted to go back to the original starting position for another tile, how do you do that? In Easel if you stop the project it automatically goes back to the datum point but I can't set up an auto return to zero (or origin) in Lightburn. Your advice would be appreciated. Very nice! I've been trying to do the test burn with all of the little boxes in a grid pattern that are different speeds and go from 100% power down to 10% power. But everything wipes off with the exception of a few boxes. People are telling me that they get good burns at 750mm/min at 60% power. Anything faster than 200mm/min and less than 100% power wiped off for me. Hmm.

The type of paint used & the preparation of the tile, as well as the speed & power settings all play an important factor, as well as the actual output power of your laser.
