my ex (a Scotsman in London) got a really nice washing machine from his neighbors and wanted to call a plumber for £200 in 2007 - how surprised he was when a history graduate installed it for free - thanks dad for the example :)

For me and my friends "babcia" /yes/ is associated with good food, "nalewka babuni" and additionally some money for her grandchildren to give during every visit :-)

in Polish there is such a thing as "przypadki", generally it refers to the declination of a noun. We learn this in primary school and some people still don't know how to conjugate some nouns. We also decline nouns for tenses and persons to give us many word variants, which is why, for example, there are so many ways to say two I'm terribly sorry if there are any mistakes, my English is not that advanced yet

Yes, we have declination in our language, but the thing you need to remember is that even if you use the basic form of given word eg. “Dwa”, everyone will understand your intentions. It will precisely reflect the information that you would say in English. The “problem” is that using this “funny” words we are more specific. If we say: “Stoją we dwoje”, this means there are two people standing, a female and a male. If we say: “Stoją we dwóch”, it means there are two males standing. What is important, I would skip learning the part concerning declination in Polish. Just learn 1000 most popular words, learn how to pronounce them and use them in basic form. Wow, you can speak Polish now. The other way will be the hard way, I would say Chinese level.

"Wpier**lić się pod koła" is not exactly "Get under the wheels". It's quite similar but more "spectacular". :D

The second meme is dualism - Szczecin is a city, szczecina is a bore's hair - so with Polish grammar when you say w szczecinie ( same ending with similar words ) means when you wear 'bore's hair' you can be mistakenly taken down.

To get a bit more info on the grammar and who "two" can be pronounced in so many ways you can react to "The Polish Language (Is this real?!)" video. It explains the language, at least a bit.

4:25 It is hard but it is beautiful and useful. For example when you ask someone: Who beat you? And someone would answer: "A, takich dwoje". That mean it was boy and girl. In English you would have to say: "Aaa, some boy and girl." ;)

5:5. Rob don't be mad but your first pronunciation of "zła" (mad) sounded like "żywa" (alive). I couldn't contain my laugh. "Are you alive" from skeleton. ;)

The case about hunters in Poland: threy're or loved, or hated. I guess they're mostly loved by farmers. There were cases when hunter shot a wolf (endangered species in Poland) or bear (same). And if they're found, they always say "I thought it was a boar". The saddest part are cases when they shot a matriarch, because her cubs/pups will starve to death. Also, I know few hunters and they think they're above the law, because the older ones have "red" connections from before 1989, and young hunters from those families are rased with that thinking. As far as I heard from other people, those who I know aren't exception.

You are really improving at polish, keep it up!

The good thing is, that in just more than a mounth it will be AFTER Christmas, AFTER New Year and everything gets back to normal. Can't wait!

polish "przyjaciel" is a much narrower term than english "friend" as far as I can tell. It's used mostly relating to the closest ppl that aren't family

Boar situation is still under investigation. Polish regulations are not allowing to be placed hunting areas near training/military bases. Two gentlemen's who were detained admitted they knew they illegally hunting in that region. Hunter who take a shot have had hunting equipment worth £30.000 including thermo and NVG with scopes same type. Its unclear for military prosecutor what really happened there as most dump hunter with those type equipment was unable mistakes boar with cammo men. So sad, to often happening down here. 95% sits its caused by alco and I admitting this from people who hunting.

It's not quite right to say that these incidents happens "by alco": alcohol, cars or guns don't kill people. It's people (who use these items) kills people. About boar situation: the explanation that the target was a wild boar is related to the almost year-round hunting season and a fairly large allocation.

Some idiot once tried to scare me and pointed his gun at me, luckily it ended badly for him, the police didn't have to look for him for a long time, and the police dogs scared him quite a bit.

The thing with Żabka is... Law and Justice, which won the two previous parliamentary elections, are "conservative" and as such banned shops from operating on Sundays, unless they are small, family owned businesses. The issue is, they left a loophole in the law and if a place is also a different type of business(accepting private postal company packages, for example), they don't fall under that law and are allowed to operate on Sunday, but the main business must be the other thing, not the shop. There's also this whole weird deal where Żabka works as a franchise business and the owners are officially still owners of their small daily business shops, just with Żabka dealing with keeping them well stocked, etc. They're dodging the law, skirting what's legal. As such, they are a booming business and have been for years, assimilating all the shops into their network. The company officially doesn't own the shops. It's officially just a bit of marketing in exchange for services. They're not Żabka stores... On paper. Just privately owned stores that run a Żabka billboard on top of the entrance, follow the Żabka color scheme, run their discounts, etc.

If youre at 3 am in a wood you're probably a boar.

The Polish Hunting Association always has a majority in parliament - no matter which party is in power, most of its representatives belong to the association.

Re: hunters (or, more precisely, poachers, in most cases at least): a few months back one guy was going down from a hunting tower and then shot his own foot because he mistook it for a boar... says everything, doesn't it?

Polish jokes do not consist in gags or stupid faces, but are sarcastic. There is always a hidden meaning, you have to confuse what the joke is telling. You have to use your imagination and catch sarcasm. Then it's funny!

Zabka is a terrible company, you can start your own with a very little of your own money but it means you start with a huge dept and every product that dosen't sell or gets stolen only gets added to your debt and you can't quit cuz the company sues you for damages and the breach of contract, which means ever bigger debt.

Scientists long ago discovered that the polygraph does not provide reliable results when examining Slavs (Poles and Russians). This is the result of many decades of living in a system of constant lying and believing in lies.

Especially when changes are isolated so that they could observe the pattern. When learning Polish cases, don't learn all the declensions at once. Instead, learn them one by one as you will need them. This way, you will learn different cases as you need them, and you can think of it as higher and higher "levels" of the language, used to form more intricate sentences.

Also, there was a small translation mistake in 11:00 - the action was called "candy or lemon", not the district. That's what you get when you skip a comma when it's needed :D 13:30 - "the cheapest way is to have an argument / fall out / pick a quarrel with everyone" (so that you would not have to visit each other for Christmas and prepare any gifts)

IMO the explaining that "You think it was [insert animal here]" should be ignored by court. That's bs. Even if it was too dark to determine that it was a person, You don't just shoot whatever moves. Kto co is "mianownik", nominative. Etc. German also has this. But the problem is that the genders really depends on who are You talking about. Two humans? Two items? Two animals? Etc. That's why it's so complicated. Fusional language makes it hrder to learn, but easier to understand. I mean. You know immediately what is person talking about. You often know person's sex as well, just by what they say. You don't have to guess. Also keep in mind, Polish is not really the only language that has that many forms. Fusional language usually have it that way. Some has less, some has more. But English, that is not fusional, just use same word or sometime adds something to the end, but that's it. Like "I take, You take, He/she/it takeS, We take, You take, They take". But that's the same thing as with "takes", but every person, gender, form is different. The crossing meme is so true. I am not even a driver and I always hated people who does that. Usually chit chatters. Two old women chatting together. And no, they won't cross. They will wait. And suddenly one of them decide it's time to corss. That's super dumb. That may be true on all countries, but recent law made it so car *has to stop* if a person stays at or is near the crosswalk. So You have to stop and they stay to and do nothing and look at driver surprised. That's really really stupid. It's not the distict in Kraków that has that name. It's the action's name. Right, too much declension in Polish ? How about English phrasal verbs by the way 🤔 Let's take for ex. ones with 'come'. There are 37 of them! Each one with at least two meanings 😶‍🌫️ 😱. I hate Phrasals with all my heart. Good lack with Polish Rob 😘 Ps. You must listen and read lot of Polish to get familiar with declension patterns as it's hard to memorise them (too many patterns of declension along with exceptios 🤯)

It should also be added that the hunter covers the entire hunting costs; he has to buy the right weapon, he pays for the ammunition, the fuel used to get to the hunting area, the meat he took for his own use, he has to devote his time. The most important thing, however (about money again), is that the minimum costs of creating a service that would TAKE OVER the role of hunters were estimated at well over USD 25,236,410 (PLN 6 billion) and maintaining at least USD 5,046,424 (PLN 200 million) per year (this is still the minimum!), and now the best; what would society gain? Unfortunately, such things happen in every country in Europe, every year someone dies due to the thoughtlessness of hunters.I always believed that hunting should be banned.
