Well done Vanessa, your enthusiasm for REAL MODERN ENGLISH is infectious. As a 65 year old British-English speaker whose own mother spoke better R.P. than our late Queen Elizabeth, I welcome someone who can explain American, young people's fast speach LOGICALLY. I used to watch excellent American movies with my wife pausing the video to 'translate' into SLOW highly grammatical British English. My wife could speak to me as clearly and calmly as the ghost of our late Lady Diana will be talking to our new King Charles in his dreams! He won't be joking about that on American TV, but I am sure it happens. My wife's happiest memories that she shared with me in later life were of being brought up surrounded by the broad LANCASHIRE DIALECT, here in N.W. England where some people also speak Liverpool Scouse. At school, at church and from the old BBC broadcasts Ruth taught herself to speak and understand what is my " boring standard southern accent ". When we married in 1980 we could understand each other perfectly. She had watched MORE TV than me and was always better at following 'movies'. Sadly Ruth died in Nov 2021 and I don't know what accent or dialect I should be using now. If I ever return to watching the American TV shows that she enjoyed so much I will need your excellent spelling system to VISUALISE what I am hearing. Your spelling of "whadaya think" should be used on SUBTITLES for us Brits to select as an option. Actually in very rapid LAZY speech I say something like " Wodzha Fink? " My name is PHilip and I wanted to spell it Filip. I wrongly assumed that TH like PH could be pronounced as F " I fort that Fink was the correct way to say THink. " Its a very common fault in London, outside the Royal palaces. It does not affect the ' voiced ' TH in faTHer but it does affect my wife's name RUTH and I still call her Roofy when I imagine her at my side. " Come and watch this funny video Roofy. Its a girl called Vanessa with a black and white dress like yours." She does not come of course, but a close family friend called Vanessa might enjoy this video instead. She speaks perfect English with a hint of her MALTESE home-land. Ruth's middle name is /was Elizabeth, so I still use the spelling Ruth.E with a dot as a private joke that would make her smile. PLEASE accept my heartfelt praise for this excellent video that I will now pass on to our daughter Elisabeth. Clever readers will spot another deliberate family spelling error there. "In loving memory of Ruth E Gibson, born Dunn. 1960- 2021. " Phil G. Feb 2023. p.s. Ruth's dresses were all taken by a local children's charity and will have sold quickly to help needy local ladies. PPS I study English etymology and the name Van + Essa = Vanessa is one of my all-time favorites.

Great fun watching you Vanessa! Have been about 30 years in the US and Canada and native speakers still ask me "wr ya from?" after I say 5 words! Tho, I think, I speak good American English. You gave an example about S turning to Z: What goes around comes around. I think you don't need the S to occur b/w 2 vowels to morph to Z. For example: he goes to school. She comes from New York. In both cases the S is pronounced Z (I think!). That choked off T at the end of a word is a gem! American R, oh my God; it is haRRRd. Have been trying to pronounce Barber for 30 years to no avail :)
