In the beginning, I partially understood Kyubey's motives and what it is doing. However, after watching rebellion... It is just a cruel capitalistic creature driven by curiosity. Madoka's new system may not be 100% efficient, but it was still working and it was less cruel. It tries to control and change the system for its own profit, even if it's clear that supporting it would result in bigger support from current magical girls and having more magical girls.

This 🙌 I didn't understand the hate towards Kyubey after watching the anime ; of course what it does is terrible, but it's foe the greater good and Kyubey itself doesn't understand things such as emotions...? ...and then I watched Rebellion and completely changed my mind on its character. You described it perfectly. Homura really shouldn't have explained the existence of Madoka to him... On a side note, there's ONE time, in a manga, where I actually liked Kyubey. In Tart Magica (Jeanne d'Arc as a puella magi) where Kyubey behaved... like a human being ? Without spoiling, there's ONE thing Kyubey does in the end of this manga that doesn't profit the universe and Kyubey is well-aware of that, yet does it (or rather chooses not to.) So that's the only time I surpringly appreciated the character.

I actually wonder about his decisions in Rebellion. In the main series I wondered to what degree he was telling the truth, vs to what degree he was lying. Is he really as bad at understanding emotions as he claims, or is he perfectly capable of understanding emotions but can’t understand the human perspective and value system, for example not understanding why humans would be upset at having their souls removed to vessels where they can be safely protected when there seems to be no downside to it but understanding that they will be upset so he avoids mentioning it unless the subject becomes necessary. In Rebellion regardless of why the incubators do what they did they created the situation in which Homura could save Madoka from her fate. Likewise in the original series it’s Kyubey who encourages Homura to make a wish to save Madoka’s life, and it’s Kyubey who ultimately suggests to Madoka that she could rewrite the rules of reality itself with her wish. Without Kyubey’s guidance Madoka would still have been the girl who made a small wish, and she wouldn’t have had the raw power needed to become the Law of Cycles. I think it’s possible Kyubey wanted to end the witch system, possibly for the purely logical reason that as time was going by stronger and stronger witches were appearing, forcing the magical girls fighting them to get stronger which in turn would generate stronger witches until you get witches like Gretchen that can’t realistically be defeated and then all hope for the universe is lost. In Rebellion Kyubey listened to Homura’s sad story about how she lost her friend and while he had no reason to believe her he created a world that was specifically designed to reunite Homura with her friend. He then sits around playing the role of an ordinary cat until Homura’s discomfort with the artificial paradise she’s created forces him to spill the beans. I guess granted if Homura had remained happy indefinitely Madoka would also have been confined within the barrier indefinitely which means the Law of Cycles would no longer be in effect so magical girls would turn into witches again so it might have been a win-win for the Incubators. Unless Madoka had another secretary that stayed on the outside and was in charge of collecting magical girls until she got back.

It’s not driven by curiosity, kyubey himself says that doing things purely out of curiosity is illogical. The actual main drive is efficiency. In theory, what kyubey’s race does isn’t inherently wrong on a universal scale, they see it as a way to prevent the onset of entropy which has benefit not only to kyubey’s race but everyone else in the universe as well. It may be cruel but they will do anything if it means improved efficiency in gathering energy, the law of the cycle isn’t efficient enough for them. In a way, homura might have screwed up in telling kyubey about the previous world, implying a more efficient method existed which kyubey took advantage of by trapping her in the isolation field to test and try to control madoka’s power

They figured out how to get ride of the witch but the form they made in madoka record would soon currupt the person i wounder if it was just wanting the tarritory back to wait for the inevitable

I believe that the image represents how closely each bonded with each other. For example, Madoka is in the middle, since she never hated anyone. She was the dazzling hope for all magical girls, so of course she couldn’t feel hate towards any of them. Kyoko really only has Sayaka and Madoka, as she wasn’t truly friends with Homura when they were in a duo to fight Walpurgisnacht. Kyoko may be the furthest from Mami because of their ended friendship. It’s a very beautiful song, by the way! I would’ve cried if it wasn’t for me being distracted by writing this comment.

tay squad ok I‘m a bit late but I think in Mamis perspective it would make sense too. She’s lonely in the timeline of the anime. No relatives or friends. Even though she and Homura were enemies Homura was somehow still the only one she had till Madoka and Sayaka showed up. Or at least that’s what I think

I think the lyrics represent a lot of what Kyuubey thought and his perspective. We all hate him for what he made all the characters do (I still hate him for that too) but he has explained in every way he could that he cannot feel emotion nor comprehend it like the girls did. Even though what he did was cruel and terrible and it made us suffer a lot (a lot XD) we often overlook that he is just an alien creature that can't feel the same things that humans would.

i think similarly! it's easy to demonize kyubey because his sense of morality in no way aligns with ours. he really believed that this plan would be beneficial to the entire universe, however, and saw these girls' sacrifices as trivial in comparison

I like kyubey it’s there fault that made there bet it’s not his fault they got screwed over they should and thought if a magical creature granted u a wish I would say that sounds fishy and ask to know everything first they got screwed cause they didn’t ask

If these girls grew up- I’d say Mami grew up to be a loving mother, Homura grew up to be an outstanding solider in the military, Sayaka grew up to be an incredible doctor, Kyoko grew up to be an amazing chef, and Madoka grew up to be caring veterinarian :)

I'd definitely imagine that! However, I think Mami would be a teacher, and Madoka would be a caring mother. Actually, my personal headcannon is that she had four daughters whom she named after all of her friends ;-) But those are just my headcannons!

I cannot imagine homura in the army, though. While she was good with weapons and explosives, and had a steeled personality, that was only a combination of experience and trauma. Even after nearly 100 cycles she still didn't develop much discipline and was as vulnerable as always. That, and she lacked an incredible skill of hindsight. Even after nearly a 100 cycles, she muddles through dialogue, making more enemies than friends. You'd think she'd learn the right way to approach everyone to convince them, but in the end, threatening and shadowing is all she can do

@@AyakaruJuuhachi im pretty sure she made good friends with all of them in some previous timelines. she just gave up on them cause they kept dying no matter what she did and focused solely on madoka safety instead. i think she has motivated sayaka and the girls with genuine caring words once upon a time, but the whole looping thing took a toll on her till whatever encouraging words she has said to the girls so many times over and over probably lost its meaning for her and all the genuine feelings that should have been there is just hollow for her to say so she doesnt say it all or she gets a reaction like sayaka accusing her for false pretenses

I think one of the most interesting things that could happen with the future of the series is if somehow (perhaps via a wish or through Devil-Homura's trying to torment him) Kyubey gains the ability to feel emotion and finally manages to understand what he's been doing. The torment of it would run a good chance of destroying him. But I think it might be one of the only ways he might be able to redeem himself and grow. It would be ironic if, in trying to torment him via forcing him to feel the suffering and emotion that eluded him for so long, Devil-Homura actually winds up setting Kyubey up for redemption. Edit/addition: Going along with this idea. This song could fit as a newly emotional Kyubey is forced to confront all the things that he did. Probably it would mentally look as though he's being tortured by his old self and his realization of just what a monster he was. Lines like "I'm not cruel, just inhuman," would highlight to him just how horrible he was as well as the lines like "go ahead and cry" as he mourns all the damage he did. And perhaps the line "you got what you asked for, the choice was yours," could reference that even his trouble now is a result of how he got greedy and tried to break Madoka's system, which only resulted in his own dethroning via Homura. Though, hopefully he'd eventually realize (perhaps through one of the girls well and truly befriending him) that he'd rather be like this than the Soulless husk he was before.

I remember reading a (now dead) forum quest- Puella Magi Restitutione Divinus; it’s set post-Rebellion, where the universe is slowly falling apart due to Homura’s fuckery, and magical girls, without an active system in place, arise semi-randomly when a girl makes a wish. The Incubators, now capable of emotion (or, more specifically, clinical depression) have no memory of the old timeline- only Oriko and Homura know about it- and two end up becoming magical girls. They have a semi-religious belief system, which states that the Devil (Homura) put advanced technology on their planet to mock them. Confusingly, a it seems grand total of one Kyubey decided to try using any of it. It’s a good read, even if it has no signs of updating and was never completed

I wonder, what would have happened, if a girl's wish was to make the Incubators feel everything, (being more human) still, not being able to die (like how they were), being put into the never ending cycle of feeling the blame and consequences. But he could, in this time, give them advice on what to wish for, and asking, do they really want that, explaining the consequences and trying to find a solution on how to get a girl back from their witch form. Edit: Would that wish also make the person who wished it a god, as for breaking/bending a rule of the universe, and giving incubators a chance on getting mentally involved in the stuff what they did? Changing fate in a way?

@@emilycheshire Yeah, it would be interesting. Would also be the concept of individuality introduced to them (as they appear to be a sort of hive mind). I wonder if he would try and get a girl to make a wish to the effect of "I wish Entropy was no longer a problem" or "I wish to solve entropy without anyone being hurt." The other part of it might be him trying to weigh the balance on deciding if he still considers it worth it to try and delay entropy when it involves such horrendous torture of young girls that he probably would grow quite fond of. He eventually might decide that he just wants out of the whole thing, even if it may doom the universe to death, he doesn't consider it worth it to hurt the people he's come to love. He might eventually decide that, as he has emotions now, he might as well be the one to bear the burden and starts looking into creating Incubator Witches, which the girls eventually find out about and try and stop because of course they don't want him to hurt either. I don't quite know that it would be a strong enough wish to do that, plus Madoka's incredible power levels helped her to become a concept. Madoka essentially wished for a paradox that broke the Witch System and let it get reformed into a better System. Wishing to give Kyubey Human understanding and Empathy might not do the same unless they included a caveat of "I wish you always had," that would require a change in the timeline, otherwise it would likely just be added to him from the present onwards. Still, if they did end up becoming a concept, what if they became the concept of Empathy, the ability to understand, cooperate with, and love each other. The new world might feature monsters that spawn randomly/without Incubator help, rather like Wraiths, but this time, Kyubey and the Incubators truly are invested in helping humanity and try their best to help their Magical Girl friends survive to old age. Heck, might make it bit of a meta-explanation as the show goes from darker and edgier to edging closer to a more lighthearted Magical Girl Anime and basically say "this is how we got here. Through sacrifices, perseverance, and learning to care for each other, we made a difference." I actually am writing a fanfiction where one Kyubey gains emotions. This really fits. The lyrics fit with Kyubey and his way of thinking. He has no emotion so he dosen't feel the guilt over making all the turns suffer through such horribleness. And yet, all the girls managed to hold on to eachother, mainly through Madoka, but still, and even through Kyubey's cruelty, they could try to hope, and I like that uwu

I think the image represents everyone pretty well. Madoka is in the middle, because she felt close to pretty much anyone indiscriminately. Kyoko and Mami are farthest from eachother because of their past friendship being ended. Kyoko is closest to madoka and Sayaka, because those two were who she mostly considered friends, especially Sayaka. Sayaka's seems to be holding tightly to Kyoko's hand, because she May consider her her savior, and the same towards Madoka. Mami holding Homura's hand represents her attempt of becoming close to and maybe even "saving" her, which obviously didn't work, which is represented by her seeming to focus only on madoka.

Are the vocal cutoffs towards the end just your style? Or are they actually symbolic relating to Kyuubey's characterization? Anyway, this is definitely one of my favorite Sis Puella covers. It really lets the music speak for itself, letting the vocals be a suitable addition instead of overshadowing the whole thing.

I though it was a nod to rebellion. How it ends in I and after it comes 3 notes, or 3 syllables for the word comprehend. Because I'm pretty sure at the end of rebellion kyubey is supposed to be in despair. That's why his eyes are like that in the ending shot. Of course that's what I got from it though.

There are two ways to interpret this Kyubeis way, a emotionless monster who will due his duties with brutal efficiency Or another A being who cannot comprehend mortal kind and is doing there duty yet feels agony at the sight of her clients pain, yearning to understand so they may grant relief yet unable to due to their duty
