A chat from my cottage-style vegetable garden in London... I have been building veg and flower beds and enjoying a slow life in the city. It's great to have my own patch for growing food, and a retreat from busy city life. This video is about my new cottage garden, although I don't own a cottage! This is an urban vegetable garden in North west London, but inspired my cottage gardens and potagé kitchen gardens. I have set up dedicated raised beds for growing vegetables, and the borders contain some well established shrubs like roses and buddleia (butterfly bush) and there is a mature Bramley apple tree. I think the garden is on an old orchard, that is what one of the neighbours told me anyway!

aw thanks! I'm hoping it will be ready for visitors some day :D and the lockdown is giving me more time than I'd normally have to work on it! Do you have a garden?

duncandoo yes I do my handsome but it is not that beautiful than your garden due to my parents and also had a dog in the past she always eats anything at all. Once I have my own place then I can do the same thing as you are doing to be fair! It is very interesting for sure, sewing and gardening too xxxx ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 Lots of love to you my handsome xxxxxx

Duncan is back everyone and I thank God. I've been worried about you. Great garden and lovely bird noises. You need a cat though. Some gardening videos will be very helpful. I was just thinking of planting some flowers. Thanks and you look great, Duncan.

Ohh and I was going to suggest you get a composting bin for your kitchen scraps and a shredder to put paper waste in. So good for the soil and saves a lot of money :)

the council gave me a free compost bin so been using that a while, but I'm wondering when I should stop adding to it and let it just compost?

@@duncan-carter We keep going till ours is full, but it seems to take forever if we just add bits here and there. Being autumn here, we collected up the fallen leaves from our neighbours lawn (by running the mower over it) + grass clippings from around our place (and a little further afield) = full in a couple of weeks :)
Really what a lovely garden. I could spend all day laying out there. I am just growing lavender and other potted plants in my apartment right now. Hope to buy a house near the mountains in the next year so I can start my own garden.

Joschua Beres a house in the mountains sounds perfect, idyllic! I think I’ll do a quick container gardening video before the next garden tour as a few people have asked and until this year all my gardening was in containers so I’ve had plenty of mistakes to learn from haha. I actually just planted out some lavender in the garden but it’s not looking too healthy! 🥴

Nothing fancy! It was a tough job getting any kind of compost for a while so I just used the first stuff I could get my hands on. I even used some garden soil initially but would NOT do that again haha, stuff really struggled and some things refused to germinate at all. Do you use anything specific for seeds?

@@duncan-carter We've tried coco peat (some people swear by it), but don't take tips from me on this... our germination rate is nothing like yours!! Maybe you can do a video on what you do? You've obviously got that magical green thumb touch!!

Yeah, that's the plan - i've seen a guttering kit that I could get for it, but need to rearrange some things to get it in place. No rush really, since there's no rain forecast here for the month now :-D
