English Articles - 3 Simple Rules To Fix Common Grammar Mistakes & Errors

This lesson will teach you three simple rules to help you to use English articles better.
I KNOW this is a lesson that you need to watch because articles are one of the most complicated parts of English grammar!
There are lots of rules and lots of exceptions for using English articles, so in this lesson, I've tried to explain them more clearly to you.
There are three English articles - a, an and the. It is also possible to have no article. Using each of these articles changes the meaning of your sentence.
Even though articles are a challenging part of speaking English, they are a really important part of English!
They give information about the noun they come before. Using articles incorrectly can make your sentences confusing or sound strange!
To improve your English fluency and sound more natural you need to use English articles well.
To get better exam results, you need to improve the way you use articles - especially in your writing tests!
I hope these three simple rules will help you to do that!
--------- TIMESTAMPS ---------
00:00 Introduction
00:42 Why this is important
02:30 Types of articles
04:36 The difference between definite and indefinite articles
05:41 When to use a/an or the

Since I improved my listening and writing, I started watch english classes online and without a doubt, they worth its weight in gold! If I had started watching these classes online completely in english, I would've already mastered this language. Besides, Although this is a basic class about English, Many people make mistakes when it comes to articles and so do I; this class is clear as cristal, though. Thanks a bunch!

Emma, As a native English speaker, we learn this by default and don't give it a second thought. I suspect most native English speakers couldn't even tell you what an article is, let alone know that there are rules about their use. A very interesting lesson that I never thought would be such a problem for non-native speakers.

Emma, aren't you forgetting the so-called "zero article"? This is very peculiar when we compare English with other European languages and causes a lot of problems to elementary and even intermediate students. For example, in Spanish we say "Me encantan LAS series de Netflix", while in English we say "I love Netflix series", so there's no article here. The same happens in French, Italian, Portuguese and all the Romance languages in general.

How an excellent teacher you are, Ms! I find your lessons truly rewarding for me because I have a liking for studying grammar. I like this lesson so much, but there is one point I'm still confused about, that is the third rule section, with the example "I like eating cake". I've managed to figure out that the noun cake here is uncountable, but I also find it listed as countable in the Oxford dictionary. Therefore, in case it is countable, can I say I like eating cakes? Could you please help me to distinguish the two cases of the noun cake, countable and uncountable, Ms? If so, I will have a complete understanding of your great lesson. Thank you so much! 😊. Looking forward to hearing from you, thanks!

Hi Emma, could you please make a video on how to pronounce "THE" word. i notice that you use two different ways of speaking THE, along THEE and short THUH, could you please elaborate the rules behind it. And thanks for these videos, they are really helpful :)

Hello! You use "thee" by vowels a, e, i, o, u (thee apple). "The" is used by consonants (the tree). I hope, it helps.

Hi Emma, saw your above video. Great explanation. Thank you. You have made the rules as simple as it could be. Brilliant! The example you shared, " I saw a person yesterday......the person stood up when they saw a cat.....etc." is wonderful example. It clarifies many things in no time. Will see your video again.

Have a small doubt though not related to usage of article......: You wrote, "..... when THEY saw a cat" Is it not, "....when HE saw a cat? How did you for the word ' THEY'? By saying so you have implied that there were many people. Is it ok to write like that? Do you mind clarifying?
