Yes, the comparison to the Powerball II would be useful to me, as well. So far, you’ve always used the Fireball 100 as a reference.
They both sound amazing, but for me the Fireball is much more raw and aggressive sounding.
Hey Jon, another good comparison video with nice riffing! Maybe my ears are playing tricks on me, but the differences seems to be quite subtle. Personally, I love simple amps even tough the trend in the amp market is focused toward complex designs. The Fireball 100 is the winner for both price and tone according to me. You did an awesome jobs, keep up the good work!
100w is soooo much power. I adore my Ironball SE; literally has everything I'd ever need in a single head and LOUD AF. ENGL is one of those brands that were never much on my radar but I'm 100% a believer now - both sound freaking amazing.
hey jon, great video as always!!! i've had a fireball 100 for about 6 months now...absolutely love it...play a stereo rig and pair it with either my mesa mark IV or my badlander 50W (w the legendary tones mr. scary mod installed)...pure tonal bliss with lots of sound options...cheers brother!!!
Being the newest top of the engl line, the se is awesome. I pair a fireball and a smolenski stereo and the tone is crushing.
I bought a FB 100 back in March, and your videos had a lot to do with my decision! Great tones and demos as always sir! I decided to buy the XXL Engl cab as well. Still trying to gel with the engl cab, but it needs some breaking in.

If it’s v30 loaded they swapping 1-2 speakers out for creamback 75s or Redbacks depending if it’s a 212 or 412. I’d definitely go either way Redbacks and promise you’ll LOVE it wayyyy more!
Been waiting for this comparison- excellent job and right on point! The only thing i think to maybe state is how much low end the Fireball 100 has. I have that and a 570 preamp- which sounds pretty close to the SE FE. Would be cool to hear those two shoot it out. I think in a live setting at show levels the SE can fine tune to the room a bit better, the clarity is phenomenal. I hope Engl endorses you since you do so much killer work!
Hmmm how about the fireball vs the invective?! Great video. I was ready the whole time to hear you say you preferred the 100. Edit: jk found your comparison video! Thanks
I honestly did not expect the SEFE to sound that much better. It sounds so much more defined and refined on all the channels.
Great video as always my friend! I agree that the SE sounds more refined. Having more in those mids really helps it sound massive. And the Fireball is definitely more raw and harrier sounding. Which I get that same sound out of my fireball 25. Sometimes I like that raw tone though depending on what I'm playing. I don't know if I can choose between them though haha 😅
Engls are beasts!!!!!!! Excellent tones as always Jon. I suppose these 2 (Fireball & SE) would sound great also together Left/Right in the mix.... What was the tuning of the last bit?
Ive had few amps and currently own the EVH5150 6L6, Marshall JVM410 and Engl FB 100 and I just love the Engl its my go to most of the time. Very versatile and has the best clean tone to use a pedal platform if needed too.
Awesome RIFF !!!
Great! Next time we look forward to a comparison with ENGL Savage...

It's coming!
So hoping for some highgain captures of these in a comming QC pack :)
Man, turn on the mid boost on the fireball and kick the presence/ mid knob up a bit and you'll be just about there. For costing twice as much, the SE only sounds a little better.
ENGL is the GOAT 🐐

Mmmmmeeeeehhhhhh! (Goat noises, not the meh as in "not great" because we all know how great ENGL Amps are!)
awesum as alwayz...now for the biggie...all your Engl amps togther in one big shootout!
I have the Fireball 100 and the high gain tone sounds so good. I play deathmetal and it sounds brutal, especially with the "bottom" button engaged. I put a 10 band EQ in the FX loop to refine it some. I would love to get the SE Founders Edition someday.
I think the Gibson through the FB 100 was my favorite tone in the video. Lead 2 on the FE does seem to be highlight off that amp. I also really dig the Deftones like riffs in the second high gain mix!
I liked the Engl the best
It's gotta be the original Powerball for me. They have the Engl sound I originally fell in love with. Savage Mk2 also seems interesting, would love to test it
The Fireball 100 is an awesome firebreather! I had one here for a while and, from memory, the FB100 is the rawer amp of the 2, which I really like. I wouldn't make a choice based on sound in this case, both are awesome sounding amps, but these are 2 very different worlds. If you're trying the SE you probably want the plethora of options/sounds available so at that point the FB100 is not an option, I guess. But, cool comparison for sure, cheap(er) doesn't equal cheaper sounding :)
The SE sounds phenomenal
2:26 This sounds phenomenal
Nice comparision! Btw have you tried Engl Artist Edition? I have one and think it’s much better than Fireball

I have not, I really love the FB though
Prefer the sound of the founders better than the fireball. As you know I have a fireball and I find it almost there I believe this summer will do some mods on it but for know I use a paraeq on the fxloop and it works just amazing. Gr8 video .
🔥
Both amps sound great!!! I did like the SE FE better tho! I'm also impress the way you pronounced "Creme de la creme"! ahah Being french canadienne, that was a near perfect Quebecois pronounciation! xD Love your content! keep it up!

Both has the charastic Engl sound, which I love. I do prefer the SE, because of the clarity and how it sits in the mix. But when you wanna go real dirty, then the Fireball is the right pick.
The Fireball is such a king against Friedman, 5150, Mesa, and others. It makes sense that the only one to dethrone the Engl…is an Engl.
yep, SE FE sounds more refined in a good way. Like.... new/better iteration of Fireball? It's always hard to me dive in treble/presence balance on fireball for clarity without hi-freq hiss. Looks like you don't have to do that on SE FE. But... Fireball 100 still great amp. It simple, has character and affordable.
In this comparison the Fireball 100 needs only a bit support of a good pedal. Both amps sounding really great. 🤘
Fireball is a great amp for reasonable money offering all the "standard functions", and it's more versatile than many people expect. Here in Austria on the local used market there's sometimes Fireballs for like 500-600€ in great condition, best deal for someone who wants a big quality tube amp. The Special Edition ist just insane with all the features it has to offer, maybe even too much for many people but i want to swap my Invader Mk1 for a Special Edition when i can afford it... but in many cases the Fireball's features are actually enough already.

Damn. I wish I could find one that cheap in Canada.
@Leychen
Ай бұрын
@@EdwardKayeplus The thing is, Engl are located at the German/Austrian border so for me it's basically a local product without import or shipping increasing the price, and if it needs repair i can bring it to the Engl factory myself they'll know how to fix it. So i grew up with old Engls and i have practical reasons to use them but i'm actually not sure if i would play Engl as a Canadian. You certainly have other brands which are rare and expensive in the EU but more reasonable over there, like Revv or Mesa Boogies from the US
@EdwardKayeplus
Ай бұрын
@@Leychen Oh wow, I was tired and read that as Australia, not Austria. That makes more sense. I can see how they would be a lot cheaper in Austria. Yeah, they are a lot more expensive here. I did manage to buy a Powerball earlier in the year for about 900 Euros with the foot switch, though. I was looking at a locally listed Savage II, but the seller wants $2100 Euros, which is a bit up there for a used amp. Hmm. I had a Revv Generator 120 III for a while, which I bought brand new, but it was still 3200 EUR directly from the factory. I really thought I was going to love that amp, but it turned out to be one of the most dull and lifeless amps I've every used.
The SE sounds huge, tho I like the Fireball but with the mid boost on, for me is a game changer and I can get the sound that I like easily :)
Having owned both at the same time, in the room the se is so much more crushing yet also more clear. The inferno, original invader and Morse amps hold up better to the special edition for me and the engl retro is also a killer under rated amp for metal \m/
Very similar voicing but the Founders has a ton more sculpting capability for those that want to go down that rabbit-hole. I'd be totally fine with the Fireball!
Some people were saying they prefer their 25w Fireball over the 100w, ironically enough.
Different guitar cabinets or IRs have a huge effect compared to these differences. I would say the Fireball sounds really great, but if you want more of everything and have the money, you can absolutely go for the SE FE.
SEFE: Great if you want ONE amp that covers the gamut with razor sharp control and compatibility. FB: an amp that can most likely sound thr exact same as above with a little different EQ tweaks and if you dont mind running a pedal in front to aid in that. Truly the best bang for your buck metal amp in the game. Either way, you ENGL, you win.
Fireball for me. But both great of course.
Leeesss go!! I bought Fireball couple weeks ago.

I`m so broke Fireball is still a huge budget to me😄 though back in a day it didn`t feel that expensive due to better currency SE looks and sounds like flagship for sure!

I have 2 more videos with my ENGLs coming in the near future! Stay tuned!
Clean: SE sounds fuller, FB sounds slightly thin. Maybe an eq thing, not sure, but there's a definite difference. Rhythm 1: FB sounds more raw, SE sounds more polished. Definitely from gain structure/compression, cannot be "fixed" with eq. Rhythm 2: FB is scoopy-doopy-doo, even with the mids over noon. Again, SE sounds "less aggressive", more "rounded". Conclusion: SE wins on clean, no question. But for rhythm tones, it's a matter of preference more than one being better than the other. I've always been a Marshall guy, and one of the reasons is because I love how raw, beastly, and uncontrolled their high gain tones are. So I actually preferred the FB in the 2nd sample, but for some reason - I'm guessing pickups - it sounded too scooped on the 3rd one. My hypothesis is that the SE will sound like the SE regardless of what you plug into it, while the FB will let the natural sound of the guitar through more. A JB on the bridge will likely be a lot meatier and midrangy than a Dimebucker on the Fireball, but - and this is based on this video alone - they'll likely sound much closer to each one another on the Special Edition.
They both sound good. The SE doesn't sound $2700 better but I think you're paying more for all the features than anything else.
SE a little bit fuller and cleaner, fireball more aggressive, both amps get great sound. SE my choice.
fireball is a m'f beast, i used to own one fireball 100, i was poor at the time and had to sell it, i bought it for 500 euro used, now im looking to buy it again and they come at least 200 or 300 more used :'(
Ah, yes, but what face plate grill do you like more? I'm going Se-Fe grill all day
Great video! Both amps sound amazing! The E635 FB100 at 1.25k is a steal, the E670FE at 3.5k is a cash grab.

I think that amps like the SE FE are worth every penny though. You get so many features. It's a premium product!
@ordohereticus3427
Ай бұрын
The difference in features doesn’t come close to justifying the difference in price, especially for the really high gain stuff, where they’re more or less the same with some minor differences that can be mitigated with different speakers or EQ. I slightly preferred the undiluted grind of the Fireball in that department.
@JohnWiku
Ай бұрын
The features of the SE do not warrant an almost 3x price increase compared to the FB100. For that matter, even though the SE is overpriced, is still more feature packed than say an SLO100, which also do not warrant the price tag of 4.5k considering the lack of anything really. For almost the same type of features, makes the Savage 120 feel like a great price point, anything more expensive that this and it's a clear cash grab, especially with less features.
Powerball 1 owns them both imo
In comparison, the Fireball 100 seemed to lack low end and low mids, but I'm guessing if you flipped through some IR's, you could address that.
